-Assume the UNSC is not in the middle of war with the Covenant.
-How would the COG (Coalition of Ordered Governments) respond?
-Would the UNSC aid in defeating the Locusts? Would they be much help?
-Would the UNSC make use of Imulsion?
-What would the UNSC learn from the COG and vice-versa?

Hmmmm, the Locusts would be done for and everyone would join the UNSC.

I’m pretty sure the UNSC would help. And when encountering the Queen, they would stinkin’ shoot her, not stand and listen to her talk.

Considering the fact that the UNSC is pretty xenophobic they would most certainly help fight against the Locust.
The COG would likely accept any help. They have been in this war for years, and they want it to end as soon as possible. Also the UNSC seem fairly benovolent to humans so it is likely that a peaceful arrangement would be set up between the COG and UNSC.
ODST’s with Rocket Launchers would be a big help against the Locust. Why doesn’t the COG hand out Rocket Launchers to their troops is beyond me. Spartans are always powerful enemies against similiarly powerful foes. The Locust don’t have energy shields so the bullet based weapons would be more effective against them than the Covenant Jackels & Elites.
If the UNSC could use Imulsion they probably would. It all kind of depends on how much the COG know about how to use Imulsion.
The UNSC would learn how to take cover, blind fire, and active reload. The COG would learn how to take even more steroids. Seriously though they would probably just trade some technology; like Space Travel from the UNSC and …. actually I don’t think there is much the UNSC could learn from the people of Sera.

There would be a full blown evacuation of Sera, with every ship in the fleet being used as a refugee vessel to lift all human elements off the planet and into UNSC custody. Due to the extent of environmental and structural damage suffered by the planet throughout the war (much of it is now hollowed out toxic wastelands), the UNSC would declare it uninhabitable and create an orbital blockade to stem the growth of the Locust. The fact is it would be easier to disperse the refugees throughout existing UNSC colonies, rather than wage a costly war against the Locust whilst attempting to capture the planet intact for rehabilitation.
Sera would be declared an environmental no go zone, unfit for the continued existence of human life.
Immulsion would be nigh useless to the UNSC as they already use Deuterium-Tritium Fusion, an energy source that is cleaner, safer and produces exponentially greater levels of energy per unit. In comparison immulsion is simply far too hazardous, inefficient, volatile and too rare a commodity for mass use.

They would see the locust, look at the covenant and “sorry, COG, we have bigger things to worry about.”

Can you really see the UNSC engaging in ground warfare with the Locusts? I doubt it.

You know what, I don’t remember requesting this, considering I’ve never played GoW…

Wait… are you trying to say that UNSC would have difficulty engaging the Locust forces or are you trying to emphasize that it would be pointless for them to do so?

@ EnigmaJ well probably both seeing how the locust are many times more dangerous than the covenant because the covies have the tech advantage and still lost while locust have pretty much beat the cog and are around the same tech level but still master chief using a gun with a chainsaw on it is just epic

Comparing Locusts an Covies isn’t quite fair. The COG almost lost because they are fighting with the same tech as their enemies, but the enemies are stronger and expand rapidly. Seeing as how UNSC out numbers ad out techs the locusts, it would be fairly easy.
Covenant
Elite=3 locusts
brute=3 locusts
hunter=5 locusts
jackel=1 locust
3 grunts=1 locust
UNSC
SPARTAN-II=who knows how many locusts
SPARTAN-III=5 locusts
ODST=2 locusts
marine=1 locust
Basically a locust is a brute combat form with a chainsaw/gun and mino body armour. Lets not forget UNSC has mongooses,warthogs, scopions,elephants,hornets,longswords,pelicans, ect……

@ EnigmaJ
He is trying to say that the UNSC wouldn’t even bother in engaging the locust on the ground. They would just evacuate the planet and bombard it from above. It’s quite easy for them to do.
@itisburgers
No, the locust are not many times more dangerous than the covenant. They are quite weak actually when compared to elites, brutes and hunteres, and they have a huge technological disadvantage. No, the locust are not dangerous to the UNSC at all. Just go to the Covenant vs Locust page or the Halo vs Gears of War page on this site

“Basically a locust is a brute combat form with a chainsaw/gun and mino body armour. Lets not forget UNSC has mongooses,warthogs,”
That’s an invalid comparison at best.
The issue with the UNSC engaging the Locust in a conventional ground war is that they will undoubtedly sustain heavy casualties and material losses as a result, this is an unavoidable fact when you intend to wage a war on the terms of the enemy. Yet what do they gain from this? The planet is naught but a hollowed out toxic wasteland, unfit to repopulate or harvest for materials.
Even if they wrestle control of the planet from the Locust, it would take decades to bring the planet back to basic living standards; in which time they could just as easily colonize several other planets in nearby systems without the hassle of waging a ground war against a committed enemy force using hit and run guerrilla attacks from the safety of their underground fortresses.
Nope, evacuate and create an orbital blockade, then send the planet back by several billion years with a nuclear carpet bombing that makes life all but impossible.

This is the most valid. Granted they would have to send forces on the ground to safely evac the citizens of Sera, they would go on an all war with the locust.

sorry for the double post but I meant that they WOULDN’T go on an all out war.

I’m just pitching this out here…….
What would happen if a Covenant ship filled with flood crashed on Sera, gravemind and all? I think that world would be completely over taken, seeing as neither side is equiped well enough to fight them.

“Honestly I think Lambent Brumaks could kill a gravemind”
I don’t think so,the flood would be their nightmare. The locust like hiding under the ground,the flood would follow them.
A gravemind is very smart and strong.
The Gravemind produces quadrillions of Flood spores.And flood spores would kill all the locust

Brumaks pose an issue what if they got all of the Brumaks and concentrated fire on Gravemind and fired all of the hammers of dawn on it?

obviously spores are micro-scopic. Its common logic that it can produve mass amounts of spores in a short time. Regardless, the Flood are a super bio-weapon of sorts. It takes incredible power to quel even a small outbreak. The spores will fill the atmoshpere, depreiving it of useable oxygen, thus the inhabitants or weakening them for further infection. Also, from the games, flood seem to be extremly adept to taking over cavern like areas, like the types the locusts use.

@the one sin
On halopedia
“The Gravemind [2] (Inferi Sententia, meaning “Thinking Dead”) (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) is the final stage in the life cycle of the Flood, and one of the main antagonists of the Halo series. When it reaches a certain critical mass, it develops a centralized intelligence. It is the Flood personality, controlling all other Flood forms and often speaking through them and even its hosts. It carries with it the genetic memory garnered from millennia of feasting and slumber, making it virtually omniscient. Since the intent of a Gravemind is to consume and absorb every sentient creature in the Galaxy, it is the collection of fallen Flood and other lifeforms.[3] The Gravemind has complete control over other forms of Flood and can even speak through the Pure Forms and some Combat Forms, using this ability to taunt its enemies. The Gravemind produces quadrillions of Flood spores.
Only one Gravemind is known to have infested our galaxy before the Gravemind that appeared in Halo 2. The first was stopped by the first activation of the Halo rings, by the Forerunners. There may be more Graveminds on the other Installations, but it is highly unlikely due to the fact that no known Covenant or Human forces have reached any Installation other than the ones seen in the series. ”

“Basically a locust is a brute combat form with a chainsaw/gun and mino body armour. Lets not forget UNSC has mongooses,warthogs, scopions,elephants,hornets,longswords,pelicans, ect……”
That is a terrible, terrible comparison.
However, I think that the UNSC would definitely be at a huge disadvantage if it did come to a ground war. Mainly because of how pathetic the UNSC assault rifle is. Innacurate as hell, no iron sights, and rather pathetic damage. The pistol is a far better weapon.

Even in ground warfare the UNSC stands a better chance than the GOW people. The vehicles and bombs would come in handy.
Sorry, A locust is similier to a brute without power-armor and a gun with a chainsaw on it. Don’t forget it is also slower and weaker. Fighting Locusts would be easy compared to fighting a collection of races that have superior technology and weapons that also use vehicles and air support (the Covenant)
If the UNSC can survive battles with a numarically and technologically superior foe, how do you think they will fare against an enemy that only has vast tunnel networks on its side?

I have to agree with L-W the UNSC has no reason to fight on the ground.
Given how unscrupulous they are, they might not bother evacuating either. Though they most likely would.
On the ground(if by some plot device the UNSC ended up there) the UNSC would win, rapid deployment, strategic maneuverability and comparable weapons(with immensely superior precision orbital strike capacity) would make for a massive UNSC advantage.
