    V

So, here we have an updated version to the cult-classic of the same name from the 80′s. I went into this really hoping for a great new prime-time sci-fi show to give the genre a boost it so desperately needs. The show *seemed* to have the elements in place: Great FX (For a TV show), great talent (Elizabeth Mitchell of LOST fame), and of course, it had the benefit of being an update to a popular mini-series decades earlier, bringing a built-in fan base.

While it’s too early to base the entire series from one show, and I know that it might take a few episodes to get into a groove, I came away from the show with a sense of…boredom. There was absolutely nothing new being attempted here. Essentially, it’s a drama that has some alien plot lines and current political problems attached to it.

    UGH.

Perhaps I’m trying to compare the old series to the new one and that would be unfair. That series unfolded in a much more believable pace. First episode in, we know just about how the entire show will transpire, what to expect every week, and we already almost have the ending set up. This certainly isn’t any Battlestar Galactica.

So, as much as I would love to give it a nice rating, I just can’t. I’ll give it 1 point for the FX, and 1 point for having talent and eye candy for everyone. I remember when the “V” stood for Victory. Now it only stands for Vile. 2/10.
