Yes, I know this game out about a month ago. But I had a few things working against me. Mostly, I saved the game just before I was going to take on Hermes, and then the following day when I fired it up, my PS3 had lost all the data from ALL my games.
So, I had to play through all the previous parts of the game until I was able to catch up to where I was before and then continued onward. Now, let’s all remember that I rate on only one scale: How fun is this game to play?
Simple answer: It’s friggin awesome.
This game is the main reason why I bought a PS3. Sure the blu-ray was nice, but I have yet to watch a film on that format. Luckily for me, I bought one of the first versions of the PS3, so I can play all PS and PS2 games as well (Twisted Metal 2, Woot!).
It’s very rare when a game with all the hype actually lives up to it. But GoW3 delivers in all aspects of that. Let me say right now that the only complaint I would have is the lack of an online multi-player, but other than that, there are no flaws in this game.
Sure, the battle system feels a bit dated, and even with Dante’s Inferno flat out ripping off everything the God of War franchise has to offer, this game shows that while imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, sometimes the original is still the best.
I love the scenes where you get to see Kratos pounding on his enemies from their perspective. I know the phrase “epic” has been abused recently, but that term certainly applies for moments in this game from the opening scene until your showdown with Zeus.
So, if you want a fun game to play that doesn’t rely on different strategies based on what character class you have, God of War 3 lives up to the hype.
