So, here’s the first ‘real’ tag team match up. Samus and Master Chief against the heroes of Metal Gear, Solid Snake and Raiden.
To be fair, I don’t know all the capabilities of Raiden since I didn’t play Metal Gear 2 – so my vote goes to MC and Samus based strictly on gameplay.

well, regarding my last comment, I guess it depends on which raiden, in the second game he sucked as a character and compared to snake a worse fighter, but when he has his skills and gear from 4 then its another story.

Watch the trailer in which Vamp fights Raiden! Raiden could finish off so many Gekkos by himself. He also destroyed 25 Metal Gear Ray’s which is as huge as quarter of Taipei 101 by himself, just with a blade. Snake, using a stinger missile launcher, did the same thing. Raiden could disappear in the blink of an eye. Snake could camouflage with the surroundings as quickly. And both will give a back stab. About Samus’s armor… Raiden wields a High Frequency blade which could slice up practically anything and block off all bullets. I think he could slice up Samus from behind. For Snake, he will stealthily give MC a headshot from behind in hiding, and I am sure MC’s radar won’t pick up a thing.

ahem,samus could easily destroy both of them with her wave beam(goes through solid objects i hear) her radar that picks everythinig up,nad her x ray vision(so even in camo she could see them.samus also has multi-layer shields.lets not forget her zero laser(or cannon.)

then mc could be somewhere with a sniper rifle,ready to pick anyone off.

Raiden has a superheated sword that can cut through metal and concrete with ease, has enough strength to hold back a Titanic+ sized warship, can deflect bullets with his sword, and can survive normally fatal wounds to the chest.. Raiden’s cybernetic advantages make Chief’s look like nothing.
Snake has has rockets, a rail gun, grenade launchers, stealth camo, and the infinite ammo bandanna, and is amazing good at quickly analyzing an enemies weakness…and is even better at exploiting it.
Raiden and Snake would cut them to pieces and send them home in a cardboard box.

Of course the Japanese have a severe problem with what physics are; ideally, Raiden is no more than a reduced (and ridiculously impractical) master chief, and Samus is on an entirely different level due to the fact that her armor is from a considerable deal in the future, same with MC (tho MCs armor/enhancements are rooted in reality unlike Samus or Raiden). And Snake is just dead weight here, his abilities against normal infantry (and legendarily stupid AIs for that matter) are nothing compared to a man who can flip a tank, has been trained since he was 6 to be a supersolider, and has a reaction time that makes everything he sees seem in slo-motion, or some chich who can shoot laser beams out her arm…
Raiden would prove some trouble for the two, however it is realistically a two-on-one fight with the two being vastly more powerful.

“Point gun, shoot, stinger missile.” which then hits Samus armour, destroying around 20 energy points out of a total of 1683 (more in some games). Then Samus turns towards snake, fires a homing super missle at him, or fires the plasma beam at him, or the homing wave buster or any number of exotic weapons which would one shot him.

the railgun would have to get through the power suit(made from the most advanced race) and 20 layers of shielding.not to mention thats if samus doesnt find snake first.likewise for mc,his suit is 2 inches thick and made from ship grade titanium,and his shields.

More likely, Snake attempts to shoot MC in the head, only to find that the bullet rebounds of his helmet. MC, now knowing where snake is places a round straight in the middle of his head. Raiden then runs out Samus with his sword, dodging her attacks. Just as he’s about to stab her, she screwattacks right into him, annihilating him.

if you read the halo books, you would know that mc’s armor is supposed to be 100% invulnerable to anything smaller a rocket (including 50cal. snipers), even then his armor has high shock absorbency and is heat resistant. a blade might work if it lands on a joint, but at that range the mc’s strength would send raiden almost literally through a wall. during tests of his armor, marines that tried it on were killed because the suit was overpowering and a normal human cant withstand the force of the suit alone much less with the already super human strength of the mc. and samus has lasers.

Samus goes supersonic not lightspeed. But her annihilator beam are enough to kill or severely wound anyone with anything short of amazing armour in one shot, as it has the power of a concentrated nuke. And the power bomb’s blast radius makes it very hard to avoid. She can dodge most things with her chozo agility and even if she did get hit, her suit has up to 20 layers of shielding (each with 99 units of energy) so I doubt she could get hurt by anything that either of the two have. Even if she did find herself in trouble, she could just activate hypermode for up to 30 seconds and blast hugely destructive Phazon beams, missiles and electricity everywhere. And if she wanted to be mean, she could wound the two and recharge her shields with there life energy, or pump them full of energy and watch them explode

Its an unfair match up. Theres three almost invincible people and a human. Snake can hold more than his own but he has no armor. Raiden and Snake would both use stealth and take different directions. Snake could drop a chaff grenade and disrupt MC and Samuses radar and missles. Then raiden could run up on Samus because he more dangerous. Then Snake can unload the patriot on MC to stop him from helping Samus, then when Master Cheif goes after snake he could drop a smoke g nade and set some C4. Mc will be distracted by the smoke then snake could set off the C4 and MC would look in that direction then raiden could attack him and kill him.

if you think raiden could get through samus and her shielding made from some of the most advanced alien technology.besides that even if a chaff worked on samus and MC(something i doubt) samus still has other ways of seeking out snake and raiden,in addition dark burst creates a small black hole,a potent weapon.
master chief would also dispose of snake(go read MC vs Snake for evidence)
so it would be samus vs raiden,raiden has a HF blade but one shot from dark burst or a super missle would finish him.

All Samus honestly has to do is use therma visor. See where snake and raider are. Morph ball to them. Power bomb and they are both dead. It’s really that simple. No swords or snipers are going to kill samus in the ball, and they are going to have no idea how strong the power bomb will be until they are dead.

smaus has her suit and her cannon, freeze, charge etc. while MC has heavy ass armour and great experience with good weapons
snake uses a big ass gun on samus in stealth with raiden distacting and pretty much this would take a while to say so i guess a tie in some ways

Stealth suit-Samus has a variety of visors that can see through stealth.
Multitude of weapons-So do both Samus and MC. Lots.

raiden is badass but a sniper with armor peircing rounds would only drop chiefs shields for 5 seconds (no really i grenaded myself then counted it takes 5 seconds exactly for chiefs shields to regenerate) raidens sword would do the same but it won’t kill him instantly he’ll respond how he always doe’s a punch or rifle butt that would at least mortally wound raiden and chief has long array of fire power armor peircing sniper, covenant carbine, beam rifle, smg, spartan lazer, rocket launcher, plasma rifle, etc… with samus it’s just plain overkill

Snake has the Active Camo thing he got at the end of MGS1 and that granted perfect camo from the naked eye, nullified sound originating from the user, and lasted forever. The Railgun has been shown to be more powerful than missiles, and we all know what missiles do to John.
Speaking of John, I see a lot of people saying that he is essentially invulnerable to bullets because of the books, yet in the games he is vulnerable to bullets. Bungie themselves say that the game’s canon takes precedence over the other materials.

chief has a camo to but all he needs is a bubble shield to defend from the rail gun besides chief overall has more experience than snake in any scenario dog fights, urban combat, gorilla warfare, etc… i already explaine how well raiden will fare against chief and snake well he doesn’t have any armor that will effectively block bullets, plasma, or rockets and we all know what rockets do to snake

Yes, we all know Snake can survive missile blasts to the face and John can’t. We also know that John usually fights enemies that have imperfect active camo that leaves an outline that is visable to the naked eye, and wouldn’t see Snake coming. We also know that you walk right through a Bubble Shield and THEN fire.
Bubble Shield works both ways anyways. John cannot fire on approching enemies without exposing himself to their return fire.
John doesn’t have anyway to see Snake comming and he isn’t precognizant. Snake moves without being seen or heard due to the Active Camo, which lasts as long as it is equiped unlike the Active Camo in Halo which leaves an outline and lasts only 30 seconds.
Expirence alone means nothing when facing an enemy that is untracable, invisable, silent, and will kill you in a single shot. Not to mention the fact that Solid Snake was engineered to be the best soldier in the world and has beaten the supposed “superior” product of the same project and the previous perfect soldier.
Master Chief has more expirence beating enemies that use inferior tactics, and have been known to regularly fall to marine forces.
Snake actually takes on enemies that not only have every advantage of strength, firepower, size, numbers, and the choice of battleground, but also are aware of his tactics and actively use counter tactics to this. Some of his enemies cross the border from “superior soldier” to straight out paranormal.
Raiden has the reflexes to block bullets with his sword (he’s done so since before he was amped up in MGS4 to boot).
Snake has the reflexes to jump ONTO a missile and jump off of it again.
John has the reflexes to dodge a few bullets by CHANCE.
You, guns_talk_louder, didn’t explain at all how John would win. You stated how long his shields take to recharge (and mentioned the fact that a simple grenade will drop them) and gave a list of weapons that John has previously used despite the fact that he has only ever been able to carry three weapons at BEST.

It happens in gameplay. Get shot by a missile during the Snake vs Liquid (Hind D) fight and guess what: Snake LIVES!! Get shot by the tank while fighting Vulcan Raven and guess what: Snake LIVES!!
Bullets don’t seek invisable enemies. Then again neither do Jackhammer Rockets.
The Elites, and the Covenant at large, were beaten repeatedly on the ground by Humans. The reason why the humans kept loosing is because once the Covenant decided that the planet was worthless to them they glassed it. That and the fact that each Covenant ship were worth roughly three human ships.
Even then the humans won some space battles because of SUPERIOR TACTICS!
I think it may be time to reopen the Master Chief vs Snake debate then.

None of that stops Snake from approching John from behind, while completely silent and invisable and slowly, and blasting John’s back full of either missiles,which he can fire 2 in about 3 seconds via Tactical Reload, and completely annihilation John before he can do jack squawt.
It isn’t that John has an inability to kill Snake; it is merely that Snake is impossible to find untill Snake wants to show himself. The moment that John finds Snake is the moment John has taken a missile to the back and is dead.

If you want to argue Snake Vs Chief, do so in the other thread. In this thread, snake could literally attack samus for an hour, and she wouldn’t be half dead yet. She could probably win by just kicking snake and raiden until they die. Samus could shoot MC, take his guns and use his inferior guns to kill the MGS duo. If this battle was MC+Raiden+Snake vs samus she would still easily win. This match is beyond settled. Any attack from samus will easily kill the mgs duo. Snake cannot hide from Samus’s x-ray,thermal, and echo visors. Raiden’s attack will do minimal damage to her shielding. This battle is SO over.

This is absolutely no contest. Samus’ shields and armor are way, way, way, WAY, WAY above anything in Team 2’s arsenel. Snake and Raiden combined could not carry enough Stinger missles to inflict more than a couple of scratches on the surface of her armor. She could easily one-hit kill either of the MGS team . . . in fact, she could probably kill them both with one attack.
Snake and Raiden might stand a small chance against MC, a small one mind you, but I personally don’t think they could realistically win except by chance. His equipment is a good 500 years more advanced than theirs, to say nothing of where Samus sits. It takes much heavier firepower than MG equivalent to harm Samus. Something around Star Wars or Warhammer 40K would be more in her league.
I support the nomination for Samus and the Chief.

This definitely would be a no contest match. It’s just simply unfair to even have Samus be pulled by the deadweight that is Master Chief. Samus can simply track them down and use the heavy use of tactics to match Raiden’s and Snake’s. Depending on who can use better tactics can show the duration of the battle. I find it unfair though that the MGS duo have to fight someone who is centuries ahead in terms of technology

so i havent read every post and someone might have brought this up, but if samus is going to get all the armor and weapons that she has at the end of her games, snake gets everything he earns as well. as in metal gear rex. near-impenetrable compound armor, twin 30 mm vulcan cannons, anti-tank missiles, a free electron laser and a railgun armed with nuclear warheads. I dont know how long it would take to kill samus with all that, but masterchief has zero chance of survival against that. since raiden should have died several times, such as when a warship collapsed on him, yet he continued to fight, im thinking he will contribute more then most people have given him credit for.

Samus could use the wave and plasma beams to ignore the compound armor and strike the cockpit directly. Or nuke it with her own ship. None of those weapons are things Samus hasn’t faced before.

Metal gear Rex would go down in a single super missile to be honest. It’s not to say that Snake defeating it wasn’t impressive, but let’s be fair; the design is atrocious against a single person, and Samus is used to facing big mechs. Rex would not fare well against Samus.
While I don’t know *exactly* how Raiden’s sword would work on Samus (there’s a tendency in metroid games that melee attacks do much more to her than it would seem. Compare the energy levels of certain weapons versus that of a physical blow) it still won’t be anywhere near enough.

I would think that the sword would cause moderate damage (maybe around 30 damage against the Varia Suit’s 50% reduction) but I don’t think it would be a match making element. Samus’s shields block off Ridley’s claws, which can cut clear through starships, and can take nearly insignificant damage from several tens of tons of crush force. On top of that Raiden would actually have to get close to Samus. Not only does she outclass him in speed and possibly reaction time (super sonic speed and all that) but her Screw Attack would obliterate him with the slightest of touch, she would probably be close to his physical strength, and then there is that arm cannon. Oh and Morphing and dropping an instantly detonating Power Bomb on him.
Close combat against Samus isn’t a very good idea despite the fact that she is primarily a ranged combatant.

Well, I would say that if your defensive capabilities allow you to “tank” some of her blows, then yes Melee is definitely the way to go. She is often unable to react quickly after being hit physically (although the same*could* be said with powerful ranged attacks)
However, Raiden is nowhere near capable of taking Samus’s attacks and thus might as well attack from a range. Not that any of it would be for good O_o
But yea, good point on Ridley, Samus can tank him all day, and he seems to be able to attacks shieldless ships just fine with his claws, but I would still say that the chozo suit is much more biased in its defensive systems against ranged energy attacks than anything else (which makes sense).

Impressive, from 2008 into 2010. And it appears fanboys still don’t get it. Someone posted earlier the ridiculousness of having Samus on ANY team. She could run up on Raiden and Snake, do nothing for an hour, take a nap, wake up, find Master Chief, kill him, take his weapons, and freaking throw them at Snake and Raiden and probably kill at least 1. The other would die when Samus fires a single power beam shot at them. Notice how she didn’t even use actual abilities, and if you know anything about Metroids power levels, you’d realize this is actually a very possible scenario. Samus, however would probably keep Chief alive though. (I mean, who else is gonna be her b*tch?)

Wouldn’t Melee combat be a really horrible idea? We’ve all seen the Metroid other M trailer right? You know, the one where she headlocked a n*gga and then blasted him in the face with her cannon? Yeah, CQC is a bad idea…
OH! Ridley seems to have a habit of grinding Samus against a wall, and it seems to do heavy damage to her. Would wither of the opposing teams have the strength (and skill) to utilize such a tactic on her? If not then… you know.

She weighs just shy of 200 lbs (it is assumed that is the weight while wearing the suit and within a 1 G gravity well). They might be able to manhandle her a little bit, but nothing ever stops her from going into Morph Ball and dropping an instantly detonating, large area of effect, Power Bomb. And it should be noted that Power Bombs are among her most powerful of weapons. Not even the Chief, who has substantially more shielding and armor than Team 2 combined, would survive one of those at ground zero. Heck, not even the nearly indestructible and highly aggressive Zebesian Metroids can survive more than two Power Bombs. Most don’t even survive the second PB. Also they don’t have the strength to lift and drag her to do the friction damage that Ridley can do. He is also probably doing a good amount of crush damage too, but we already know that her shields can shrug that off easily. And he doesn’t have a habit of it. He is going to do it for the first time in a canon game when Other M comes out. The only other instance is in Brawl, but that isn’t canon to Metroid. He is more likely to stab her with his tail than drag her across a wall.
Again, getting close to Samus is a very bad idea, and it isn’t just because of her CQC abilities. She could litterally pummel Team 2 into pulp with just the Morph Ball with the Spring Ball and Boost Ball abilities. They would get CQCed by a sphere.
Team 2 really a poorer chance to win than a snowball’s chance to survive
in the heart of a star.

this fight is way more than anything snake and raiden could handle.
and im sure samus has antimatter weapons which neither could defend against, her cannon is immensly powerful, damaging samus is completely outta the question for raiden and snake.
this is a super mismatch.

@Original A: you’re right about Ridley. He may technically do it only once canonically, but even then, it seems to be plenty damaging. But alas, this is a moot point. “Getting close to Samus” and “suicide” are redundant. Hell, “being an enemy of Samus” and “suicide a redundant. And basically the same thing. Well, once again, this site appears to have a “someone considered Awsum against Samus” only to have it proved that they can’t do jack squat to her. But this time she also has a pretty cool guy hwo kills aleins and doesn’t afraid of anything on her side.
