Here we have a slug-fest between two of the most enduring fathers of animated goodness. Homer has been hanging tough for seemingly forever and Griffin is doing just as well.
So the questions are – who’s funnier? and if you had to choose, which one would you pick to be your daddy!?

Nobody can survive as much as he can and not be immortal.

- I find Peter funnier and makes a better father overall.

well i find homer funnier but peter a better afther but if they had a fight peter would win

To be frank, both of these guys would be TERRIBLE fathers IRL.
However, I’ll pick Homer. Not just because I grew up with the simpsons, but because you could hold a conversation with Homer without the scene cutting off to something random.

Peter
Just so I can pick on meg, but I’m hispanic so how would I fit in a white family?

Peter in no way or shape is a better father.
Homer can be neglectful absolutely, but seriously have you seen Peter and Meg’s interaction? I mean you can chalk it up to unclever writing, but how does farting in your daughters face, giving her a lap dance or shooting her put you above a guy who doesn’t understand his smart kid.
Homer ftw…
Both are pretty funny though.

Nah Peter is the man. Who else would build a breakfast machine that shoots you?

Who else but Homer can build a time machine from a toaster?

homer
cause if he was my dad i could establish a stable relationship with spider pig and run off to new york and work as a waiter and raise a hideous family of man-pig hybrids

Homer. Without a doubt. He’s neglectful and kinda retarded, but have you seen the fun he and Bart has sometimes? He actually knows and understands his kid, and even he and Lisa have had their good times. I’d choose Homer to ma dad over Peter anyday, and I personally think Homer’s funnier. Peter’s just incredibly random, can be funny sometimes but most of Homer’s stunts are actually very amusing.

In a fight Peter ftw. He gots the guts to go up against the chicken guy.

I wouldn’t want to get within ten miles of either. They both suck as fathers. Not that what I have currently is any better.

I got nothing aginst homers fathering skills. He seems a little more like a big brother than a dad, but he’s kind when it matters, and he’ll always be in your corner when you need him most.
Peters just an ass.
As for who’d win in a fight… difficult. Homer is hella tough, but as shown in numerous episodes (the one where he becomes a boxer for example) he’s not the best fighter. Hell, it took three swings to put SImon Cowell down for the count. Peter tends to put people down, and hard.

Peter would seem like the tough choice, I mean he’s got wrecked before too. Most notably by his own wife. And look at all the flashbacks and cutaways where Peter get’s 1-hit kod.
If you recall he couldn’t take a frying pan to the head by his wife.
Homer took pool cues and beer bottles to the head without flinching, he has that extra layer of skull fluid or whatever it is that keeps his head so rock-hard.
Also as demonstrated when he was telling fight how to deal with Nelson Muntz, Homer is a pretty dirty fighter. He chewed up a punching bag and gave advice to “throw dirt in his eye and hit him in the family jewels”
So… with his medically freakish head-defense and tantrum-like method of fighting, I wouldn’t count Homer right out vs. Griffin

Homer has had his fair share of epic punch-ups in the past too. Hell he beats people, just by tiring them out from punching him.

I think I’d give it to Peter since he seems to be a trained fighter and most likely pretty well versed in martial arts. Don’t believe me? Watch this

In the same vein though, homer is apparentally capable of this

@Sparks
And Peter wouldn’t?
January 24, 2010

@TheSorrow
Couldn’t say. That was more of a joke anyway.
The point is comparing Peter vs. a giant chicken isn’t particularly helpful.
Peter was also knocked out by his wife with a frying pan in 1 shot. So you can pick or choose which one hits harder. Since chickens aren’t really known for their strength-to-size ratio (like ants and other smaller creatures are) I wouldn’t stake much in Peter beating a bird.

Homer does stupid things on accident, which is funny. Peter does stupid things on purpose, which is also funny because he doesn’t realize it’s a bad idea.

Right, I didn’t say Peter had no comedic value.
I’m talking why I believe Homer would take Griffin in a fight.
They both have been beaten up sure, but Homer gets wrecked by the likes of somo wrestlers and pro boxers.
Peter got laid out by his wife and a cripple
January 24, 2010
#26
So the fact that Homer gets beat up by somo wrestlers and pro boxers makes him a better fighter? Makes perfect sense. Also if you are referring to Joe, then have you seen his arms?
January 24, 2010

Homer fighting with Sumo’s or Pro Boxers makes more sense than Peter’s skills vs. a chicken.
Besides that, it shows Homer would have a better endurance to damage than Peter has.
Like I mentioned Homer has an extra layer of fluid or the like surrounding his skull, he can basically just stand there and absorb any damage done to him.
He took poolcues, beer bottles, and numerous punches to his unprotected skull.
Let’s remember he took canonballs to the gut at one point as well.
Peter has taken beatings too, and even though he’s walked away from some fights he was clearly in terribly worse condition compared to the fights Homer walks away from the victor.
And the boxer Homer got beat by was monstrously larger than Joe anyway. Nother’ comparison in Homer’s favor there as well.

Homer fell down Springfield Gorge three times in a row. And lived. The guy has a superhuman degree of endurance.

On the other hand, Homers been knocked down by Barts adopted older brother, a baseball to the head (in earlier episodes) and suffers from brain damage.
Then again, lest we forget “Last time I went to see a hypnitist I came think thinking I was a chicken… I’m a chicken Marge!” “I know, I know..”
So, Homer thinks he’s a large Chicken, and peters worst enemy is.. Oh, this just got interesting.
And if Family guy events are Canon, Quagmire did sort of shoot homer dead.
January 25, 2010

@Jwlynas
If you’re saying Quagmire shot Homer is canon, remember Peter was pushed into the canyon and killed along with all the other Homer clones except 1.
That happened a lot earlier though.
So let’s not go by that, cause if we do Griffin wouldn’t really be in the fight… being dead already.

They both would be. meaning Zombie homer and Peter fighting it out. Awesome!
COurse, peter has survived having his head crushed between two logs that clearly closed tight enough to not leave a gap between them.
Homer lost his thumb while peter lost all his fingers
If we were to try and catalogue both of the combatants injuries it’;d take days.

i really think peter is OP for a character like this i give homer his props but peter can hold his own in a fight against louis!!!!! Freaking Louis!!!!!! you know his wife that beat a bar full of streetfighters, martial artist, and 3 kryptonians.

i definitely think peter is funnier, but i dont know who would win this fight
January 28, 2010
#34
In a fight, Peter would win. If he can fight the giant chicken and come out victorious, then I guess he would win against Homer. But Homer is definitely a better father. He says a lot of funny and stupid shit. Peter, though, is mostly random funniness, and just as soon as he cracks a joke the scene moves to something that has nothing to do with it.

Homer is a better father and funnier. Peter finds himself in funnier situations. And as to a fight, well homer has been hit by cannonballs!

I’d still put money on Homer in a fight, as well as the whole non-douche father bit.

“I’d still put money on Homer in a fight,”
Problem with these two is that their combat skills fluctuate wildly.
One episode Peter will be fighting that chicken, the next episode tripping over something will be enough to K.O him.
Homer however, well he’s a little different. See, while his skills in combat have also fluctuated, his pain tolerance and durability have always been seemingly superhuman. Falling dowwn Springfield Gorge three times in a row? Oh yeah, he was banged up, but he lived. Hit in the chest by cannonballs at close range? His body was at risk, but he still went on tour doing it.

Homer is a lot more talented than Peter as he stands for the average working man.

In fact I think Homer may have a higher I.Q. than Peter.
So FP award for Homer?
