For this match, we’re going to have some layers. First one is a brawl match. I think Axl can take all of VH by himself. The second battle is influence. Which band has made more of an impact? Thirdly, which band was bigger during the 80′s? And the final question, which band do you prefer?
I like a ton of Van Halen songs, but they just don’t kick ass like GNR does.

1. Yes, The Guns N Roses did drugs, So that will make them stronger in the brawl.
2.Guns N Roses had astounding members, Who, individually made impacts for themselves and the band. Such as Slash’s name going next to Jimmy Hendrix’s.
3. Guns N Roses WERE the 80′s rock band. They were copied by other bands, They ruled.
4. Kicking ass with music is the only thing Guns N Roses know. Except Drugs…And more Drugs.

1. Drug takers or the rock persuasion tend to end up as weak as doped up kittens, and about as coherant as a geriatric jibberjabber, just look at Ozzy.
2. Barring slash the othe rmembers are has-beens, nobodies and talentless hacks attempting to rekindle a lost youth.
3. No, the 80′s rock band was Queen. Followed by Spinal tap, The Beatles and a fair few others. Not saying G&R were below Van Halen. I’m saying they were both consistantly high performing second tier bands.
4. Kicking ass with music? Axel rose sounds like he’s perpetually getting his own ass kicked. Slash is damn good, but far from the best, and the whole band has been elevated on three merely good songs.
Plus, As any DJ will tell you, Sweet Child of Mine is a song to be played midway through a gig. Good, catchy, but ultimately won’t get anyone on their feet unless they are already there.
Van Halens Jump on the other hand is a surefire footstomper.
Van Halen baby, all the way.

hate to sound like a fanboy, but i am one….guns n roses all the way, no 80′s band has more kick ass and soulful solos than Slash, just because Axel went a little batshit doesnt make their music any less noteworthy, their influence is much more notable, at least to me, among modern music than the entire Hair Metal genre put together.
and LMFAO the spell checker thing for ‘kickass’ has Kickapoo as one of the options xD

Although I don’t “like” either of them, GNR is easily better

Guns, easily. They rule. They gained popularity with Paradise City, Sweet Child o Mine and Welcome to the Jungle, and yet the rest of Appetite is better. When a band’s less known songs outperforms the biggest hits, you know the album rules. Appetite of Destruction is enough reason to beat damn near anyone. (though you cannot top System’s self titeled System of a Down, that record is INSANE.)
That, and Jump is one of the most overrated songs ever.

Although modern metal, and indeed metal in most forms grinds my nerves like southern accents, Van Halen has maybe 2-3 songs that don’t cause me to change the station whenever they come on. (Dance the night away, Running with the devil & Jump.)
GNR though, really can’t stand that whiny bullshit tone whoever the lead singer blast out. The only redeeming qualities of GNR was that Beavis and Butthead did a cover and paradise city, and they used welcome to the jungle in the GTA trailer.
..also GNR was Galaxy News Radio from Fallout so that’s also pretty good, but really has nothing to do with these druggy loons.
So from my limited knowledge and somewhat dislike of both groups, I’ll take van halen over the others.
As to impact, can’t say either. Most of my circle doesn’t listen to that type of stuff, so no conversations ever erupt.
I agree with Jwylnas on the bit about both being below other bands in the 80s, so more or less a tie.
And in a fight.. I think it’d be an all around panzy fight. But maybe a slight GNR advantage, if you’re indeed a pissant druggy, you probably don’t care what happens to you, I can see them pulling some kamikaze stuff lol

Then what the hell is good if GNR isn’t? Please, don’t say pop, R&B, Rap, Hip-Hop or any other such music form. Rock n’ metal rules the world of music hard, and GNR really are among the best.

Different strokes for different folks, I don’t like metal. If you do that’s your thing, I wasn’t insulting metal listeners for liking it, I was giving my own view of the music itself blowing eh… 99% of the time.

Guns N Roses vs Van Halen??? Are you serious? GNR isn’t in the same league as Van Halen. I love Appetite, it’s in my top five favorite albums but that is there only really good albums. VH has multiple killer albums…and I’m only talking about the Dave era. Every one of VH’s albums have gone platinum or higher and they have sold way more albums than GNR.
Not that it matters but DLR is a big dude and has a black belt so I’m pretty sure he could kick Axles ass.

Ok, so I do believe axel would win in a brawl, but as for 2,3,&4… they both made an impact in their own way, GNR put an end to the hair metal days, and opened a new era..but without VH, there would be no GNR…slash has said that himself..so impact, I would say VH..eddie changed the guitar and how it could be played..and dave is simply dave..the bigger band in the 80′s was probably VH, and I say that because GNR came out so late in that decade, they couldn’t match up to VH 80-88..and between the two I would have to say that VH is my band, only because I cannot stand axel rose…musically through the first couple albums, I like them but I just don’t like the vocals…
