Greek Mythology Vs Norse Mythology

Suggested by Pondering Fool
Very cool match here. Which one has had more impact? Which has more powerful characters? This battle takes place on Earth, with all Gods able to be summoned to unleash their fury.

Which side wins?

I ditto the Norse Factpile Award. Also, don’t the Norse monsters outnumber the Greek numbers. I mean, their is only one Minatour, Nemean Lion, ect.

@ Ridwan: Yeah, Hindu, Chinese/Taoist, Buddhist, and Shinto are my most favorite mythologies at the moment and they would beat the holy hell out of every other pantheon, period.

On topic, as much as I currently think Norse mythology is way cooler than greek (which is kinda lame and boring to me now), the greeks still take this fight the majority of the time due to immortality, regen, and generally superior firepower.

Any1 remeber Age of Mythology the game? just play it and you will know who wins. EASY

    greeks
I mean u gota remeber that neither the norse gods or the greek gods are incincible but if u TRULY understand greek mythology then you would understand that the greeks are more powerful, they have GAIA, Cronos WHO CAN CONTROL TIME and of course all the other gods and heroes.

Zeus killed Chronos and I could be wrong but Idon’t think he controlled time in the genuine myth

Greek wins because it has all those crazy creatures like Medusa and Hydra

Greek would win based on sheer numbers. Norse mythology has like, 10 gods, MAX. and a few giants to fight them(midgaurd serpent=giant). woup-dee f#$%ing doo. Greeks have many beasts, Gods, and other divine beings.

Scratch what I said earlier: Chinese and Shinto mythology would beat them both down.

Greek mythology also have several cosmic entites that are similar to Eternity and Death from the Marvel universe. The only beings in Norse mythology I know of that is pseudo-omnipotent or cosmic are the Norns.

    1: Shiva, LORD of destruction
    2: shiva’s not Norse.

    “Medusa and Hydra”

Midgard Serpent, wrapped around the world.

The Personifications of time and old age (Challenged Thor to contests of might to rpove to him the power of humility)

Fenrir and his sons, one a God-Killing wolf, the others wolves destined to eat the sun and moon.

Baldur – Immune to anything except Mistletoe.

…Yeah, Hydra’s are hardly going to worry this crowd.

I would say Greek.Considering the Norse can all be killed.also the Protegenoi are basically untouchable power wise. Not to mention your basic gods and titans can rip apart the norse gods and giants.

Wait, so why are people saying the Greek Gods (those guys beaten/overpowered by mortals. Ares beaten by Achilles at Troy for example) would beat the Norse (guys who won every battle not directly against each other)?

Would it make better sense for someone to suggest adding King Arthur’s and Siegfried’s respective families into the mix, seeing as how King Arthur’s family is said to be descended from the likes of Zeus and Aphrodite[through Aphrodite's half-mortal son, Aeneas of Troy!] and how Siegfried’s family is descended from Odin?

Or should someone already have posted that match-up in a separate thread?

Hmm.. Interesting. Then we’d have the Match of Galahad (Noble and granted immortality by the Lady of the lake.. I think it was Galahad) versus Baldur (Noble and immortal from anything but mistletoe)

For now, we’ll stick to the classics though, if only for simplicitys sake

    Greek gods can be killed.

Look what happened to Chronos’s father Uranus.

    Alright then.
Both Zeus[at his better days] and Odin[virtually 24/7] actually have shockingly high I.Q scores, the last time i checked, what with all the Xanatos Roulettes they’d tend to do often when it comes to this plane of reality, right?

Why not see if they have the patience for a chess match along the lines of Wizard’s Chess?

    “Greek gods can be killed.”

I beg to differ especially on Aphrodite and Cupid.

Here’s what’s basically agreed about both sides.

*both sides of immortals actually give a $hit about their children and descendants, its just the methods and results they differ from!
*both took on impossible odds more times than we can count
*both of them have groups of powerful warriors.

    Can i add more?

  • Commander Cross

    Alright, i will!

*Both sides require means to recall the events that happen in the worlds of our forefathers[the gods from Olympian Lore would require someone like Mnemosyne, while the Scandinavian Gods would require Odin's birds!]
*Both sides have various factions of powerful soldiers and warriors, able to take on otherwise impossible odds[the Olympians and their allies from the Hellenic tales would clearly have the Spartans after the time of Helen of Sparta, although her reputation was disgraced until she came back home, but that's another story! While the Scandinavians have Viking Warriors, for instance!]
*The best known Chief Gods for each meta-group happens to be extremely powerful, although it varies in whether or not they’ll always retain their reasonability.
*Both said Chief Gods[Zeus and Odin, respectively!] also have very famous families of descendants that took on the most impossible of odds[King Arthur's family took on odds equal to, if not greater than, that of Hercules' blood-lines, while Siegfried's family had to fight armies and they also had to fight Dragons, both families can wield Excalibur and Tierfang, respectively!]

Anyone else wish to add more, now?
