Ghost Rider Vs Hellboy
Ghost Rider Vs Hellboy

Suggested by War Wizard

Here we have an interesting match that would be great to see. While I’m pretty sure which side Mata will pick, I don’t know if it will be a slam dunk victory for Ghost Rider. Hellboy has some endurance that might let him last awhile.

What say you?

Oddly enough, not comfortable throwing my blind devotion to the man in flames in this fight. I don’t know nearly as much as I should about Hellboy. Will have to come back to this after doing some digging.

Who are you and what have you done with Mata? Kidding of course.

-Imma gonna say Ghost Rider…. even though I’ve done exactly zero research… just basing off what I know of previous GR matchs and the Hellboy movies.

I know, I feel dirty enough.

Also, we have Robotech, Ghost Rider, and Sir Dan matches on the first page. Coincidence, Admin?.

Hmm. Tough call. Hellboy is a tough bastard, but Ghost Rider has pwned Galactus in one move. I’ll wait for more info.

The only thorough description of Hellboy’s powers I could find online was this:

    http://crownedwithfire.livejournal.com/506.html

If this information is accurate, then I would say Ghost Rider has the advantage, because it indicates that a punch with five tons of force(which is what Ghost Rider can lift in his base form) can stagger him, a blade with three tons of force behind it(I’m thinking Hellfire chains) can pierce his skin even if it isn’t magical, holy power can affect the Right Hand of Doom, and Hellboy’s healing factor isn’t extreme enough to recover from heavy damage mid-battle unless his True Name is spoken.

I wasn’t able to find anything other than vague statements(e.g. “Hellboy has superhuman strength and is really tough”) elsewhere. Of course, I might be wrong since this source isn’t some official information from Darkhorse comics, and I don’t really know much about the character beyond what I’ve heard.

Alright, so after digging around a little bit I am absolutely confident that GR would take this victory without much trouble at all.

Not only does the basic GR (one who is completely under control of its anchor) stronger and far more durable than Hellboy, but a fully unleashed True Name HB would still pale in comparison to beings whom the GR has defeated in the past such as Lucifer himself.

This looks like a slam dunk.

“but Ghost Rider has pwned Galactus in one move.”

WHAT? Galactus in a single fuckin’ move? Oh shit, Hellboy is so very utterly dead.

I’m pretty sure it was the animated version of Galactus that he took down with a penance stare.

Yea. This was a Fantastic Four episode where Galactus was severely starved and Ghost Rider OHKOd him with a Penance Stare that carried the weight of many thousands of cassualties.

    Hardly canon.

Too easily GR here. Where Hellboy is certainly powerful, it just aint enough.

even if H.B.’s origin is demonic he is not an evil character so I don’t belive the pennance stare would have much affect on him, beyond that my knowlage of both is too vague to argue for their strength or any affect that their weapons would have on one annother.

Considering Spawn was unable to defeat Ghost Rider, I’m going to say Hellboy isn’t going to win this fight either. Even if Hellboy is a nice guy, he’s still considered a demon. So Ghost Rider has the tools to defeat him.

Mmhhh, memories of nuclear type level Hellfire blast passing over my eyes…….mixed with the ability to regenerate from any physical blow (excluding magical ones of course)…..interesting battle. But I will go with my bias and say Ghost Rider.

“even if H.B.’s origin is demonic he is not an evil character so I don’t belive the pennance stare would have much affect on him”

The Penance Stare has very little to do with actual good or evil on the soul of the receiving end. What this attack looks for is if the target ever harmed another living being, and turns all those emotions (from both parties) against him.

There are very few beings who could ever claim to be immune to the stare, and HB is not one of them.

Mate, since you are more knowledgeable than me in this area of comics, could you name those beings that have survived or are immune to the penance stare? Would it be mostly the insane type villians/heroes? Thanks

its usually the ones without souls

@PF – These are the examples that come to mind.

Venom – While not immune per se, Eddie Brock’s Venom created a Penance Stare feedback on the Ketch’s Rider. Venom suffered intense pain, but was only briefly stunned while GR was knocked out. Why this happened, no one knows.

Madcap – The Stare simply didn’t work on him. This guy is utterly insane, and has an eye attack himself.

Centurious – Another instance where Ketch’s Penance Stare had no effect. This man has no soul, so it is safe to assume that it doesn’t work on the soulless.

Zodiak – The Stare didn’t work on this man either. However, it is not clear if it is due to him having multiple eyes, or because he was possessed by numerous demons. My opinion is that this supports the theory that the stare cannot harm more than one individual at a time. This is validated by Venom’s situation.

Those were all from Danny Ketch’s Ghost Rider (Noble Kale). These might be argued as circumstantial due to the irregular nature of that Ghost Rider’s origin. I cannot recall is Jonny Blaze’s Ghost Rider has had any situation where the Stare performed the same way. There MAY have been an occasion where the stare didn’t work on a fragment of Lucifer (not sure about this), but I can hardly count the Prince of Darkness as a regular being.

For that matter, we haven’t seen Ketch’s Stare failing after he got his powers back (mainly because he has just kicked major ass rather than punish souls). It is also not known if Ketch’s GR is Noble Kale or another Spirit of Vengeance.

Hellboy does have a soul, and he isn’t insane, and he’s done his fair share of violence before. While probably not as devestating as it would be against a completely evil character, the Penance Stare would still be a very deadly weapon to use against him.

    @Mata

Thanks for the info. So would it be safe to say, the Penance stare would work quite effectively against Hellboy (for the reasons AHEM stated). Is there anyway Hellboy could actually harm the Rider though? I know physical blows are only a temporary nuisance, as Ghostie has taken blows from the Hulk and walk away a few moments later. But doesn’t Hellboy have some mystical weapons?

Unlikely. You need a weapon forged in Heaven or something similar, and even then, Ghost Rider can regenerate almost any damage instantly. The Right Hand of Doom may cause some damage, but not enough to take down Ghost Rider, I think.

Didn’t Hellboy has some “heavenly” gun of his? I don’t know, all my information of Hellboy comes from the two movies, which I doubt would be considered canon…..

I don’t really know. I’m not a Hellboy expert, and almost everything I know about the character comes from research. Does anyone here have some more thorough knowledge of possible heavenly weapons HB might possess?

hellboys standard pistol rounds are hollow tipped and usually contains holy water, and other the things effective agaisnt demons and super natural beings. The guns was forged from melted churchbells and fragments of the True Cross.

so his gun might actually be able to harm ghost rider.

Even if it could, GR could just regenerate instantly. He survived having his skull crushed and got it back in moments. His endurance, more than anything else, surpasses Hellboy.

Yes, exactly. Hellboy does seem to have a weapon that might qualify as being able to harm Ghost Rider, so he gets some slim credit there, but he’ll have some trouble actually keeping GR down.
