Dark Light
FactPile Review: “V”
V

So, here we have an updated version to the cult-classic of the same name from the 80′s. I went into this really hoping for a great new prime-time sci-fi show to give the genre a boost it so desperately needs. The show *seemed* to have the elements in place: Great FX (For a TV show), great talent (Elizabeth Mitchell of LOST fame), and of course, it had the benefit of being an update to a popular mini-series decades earlier, bringing a built-in fan base.

While it’s too early to base the entire series from one show, and I know that it might take a few episodes to get into a groove, I came away from the show with a sense of…boredom. There was absolutely nothing new being attempted here. Essentially, it’s a drama that has some alien plot lines and current political problems attached to it.

UGH.

Perhaps I’m trying to compare the old series to the new one and that would be unfair. That series unfolded in a much more believable pace. First episode in, we know just about how the entire show will transpire, what to expect every week, and we already almost have the ending set up. This certainly isn’t any Battlestar Galactica.

So, as much as I would love to give it a nice rating, I just can’t. I’ll give it 1 point for the FX, and 1 point for having talent and eye candy for everyone. I remember when the “V” stood for Victory. Now it only stands for Vile. 2/10.

I think I am with you on this, admin.

I went into this series expecting big things. Like you said, there is a sci-fi void left by Battlestar Galactica that is yet to be filled. However, all of my hopes went out the window when they gave the big “reveal” within the pilot episode.

    What?

    Who does that?

I will still give it the benefit of the doubt. I have remained loyal to far crappier shows than this. Though I am left wondering what the ongoing plot for the series could be.

All in all, tentative thumbs down.

Isn’t that the kick for the Sci-Fi channel.

You become loyal to shows you know aren’t even that great, yet keep watching anyway :(

Will there never be another Xfiles? And speaking of aliens, what happened to Smallville?

having just read the plot premise on wiki it sounds an awful lot like earth: final conflict we seemingly nice aliens that help humans however have a dark ulterior motive

and sam dont get me started on smallville i have grown bored waiting for him to turn into superman but the writers just keep stringalong it a long make each series more ridiculus then last

I am amazed smallville is still going as well…First series was the best though. And I thought Factpile was getting reviewed by some random website called V.
