Since I began running this site I have always moderated every single comment that has ever been posted on this site. Knowing that I can’t continue to do that if we really want this site to increase in popularity, the survey revealed that most of you want an auto-post system for the comments.
I’ve got no issue with that since most Pilers behave themselves and only marginally flame
.
But, I will put some filter words in place, mostly racial slurs since those seem to be the favorite of new commentors on the site.
Allowing this functionality will satisfy most people, but here’s the cost: I simply won’t be able to stay on top of the “pulse” of the site. Most times people address me in their comments, so that’s how I can reply and react to what goes on with the site. Once I flip the switch, the most likely way to reach me will be through email.
This functionality should go live today and we’ll see how it goes.

Awsome. However i figured it would only be certain accounts. Ones you could trust, while all hte others remained having to wait. But i guess that might not be as easy =P

I can absolutely see the apprehension towards this and the inherent “issues” that will arise by opening the postin format.
To be honest, I didn’t think this would be an option for the open site. I thought that an “at the moment” posting option would have become available after creating personalized/passworded accounts. That way you would still monitor the posts of all the guest posters with these “pulse”.
Worth a try in any case. Lets see how it goes.

Its… interesting. So far I’m all for this change, though it is making a little hard to see when topics have been updated. Looks like I’m going to have to subscribe to a whole lot more. Ah well.
Also, for some reason the message boxes are extending past the topics on the side. Themost recent posts, the top posts… etc
Yeah, that’s all due to the pagination plugin, I’m working on it…Admin

admin is not gonna go anywhere. He just wont have an active “warning” of sorts for the stuff that will be posted. This means that while he will still keep an eye out for posts addressing him, he will likely miss a lot.
Indeed this system is usually more effective when there are other moderators actively keeping things under control across the boards, but I don’t think our active community is big enough for that yet.
I am sure these are all things admin considered long before today’s implementation. It is most likely that he is simply testing the waters of this format before the re-launch of the site.

Aw! Now I have to use my stupid forum name to post. Shame on you. Plus, Logging in!?
Im not kidding admin, As soon as I saw the “New” Layout I literally facepalmed. I do not want this to be like the “Stereotypical forum” I like the Old factpile. Maybe you could give us an option of the old layout and the new layout. I would like to be using my origional name.

I don’t really care about changes to the Forum as there are others here much more experienced in Factpiles layout who would have more insight on what is nice and what isnt.
However the reply box should not extend all the way to the Recent comments box. I cant see parts of what im typing. Take a look.

Certainly not site destroying but irritating nonetheless.
I know – I’m working on it – Admin

With the whole Genie picture, I have a feeling that we are opening Pandora’s box……i don’t know why but I have that wierd feeling……..anyway, at least this format allows me to see the Halo vs Star Wars thread, so that is a plus!

Quiet Draco, Or i shall use my stars to make you explode. Admin, is this a new “engine” for the format? if so, could something happen about the silly box where our gravatars used to be?

Thanks admin, I suppose I was one of the few that like the moderation of posts..
Anyway, Admin, could you possibly explain the new postage system? Personally, I prefered the old one…

While I dont really care about the particular layout, I think pagination and instant-posting will be incredibly beneficial for the community to expand. It seems like a lot of you are fairly attached to the status-quo, which is fine, but it is hardly optimal.
Truth is, sans server issues, pagination gives INCREDIBLE functionality at our end of the spectrum. It allows for faster page loads, as well as easier ways to recollect particular posts by including page numbers as well as post numbers.
I think that if we somehow found a way to implement instant-posting and pagination without loosing the current visual format, people would not be so apprehensive about the whole dea.
I love the pagination as well. Problem is, that functionality is what causes the site to lose it’s “look” when it’s enabled. Luckily, I was able to contact the creator of that particular plug-in and he is working with me to get to work properly and maintain the look of the site. Hopefully that happens today. If not, it’s only temporary as it will be on the next design…Admin
