Solid Snake vs Rambo
July 17, 2008 by admin
By request, we’re going to test the waters and present a “Snake vs” series along the same lines as the Master Chief series. It’s survival depends on participation (i.e. comments!) - so tell your friends to comment on the battles as well, and if it does well, we’ll roll this series into the fold.
So, onto the battle!
Two crafty veterans of war. While similar on some fronts, Snake is clearly superior in terms of stealth, but Rambo may win out on brute force. Who’s the victor?

Well since I’m the only person to post so far and I personaly hate Snake. I’m gonna have to say Rambo puts a flaming arrow through his forehead,
YAY
ha ha cool my ideas are alive! ha ha jk jk thanks admin.
well being that snake is my complete idol and hero (in terms of games) i am gonna have to go for snake simply because snake has stealth, CQC, and wit on his side.
if you give these two both a M60 or something, then of course rambo will win, because rambo is simply the type of guy you dont want standing in front of you with no cover.
so idk i think it would be a tie,because if snake were to die, rambo would be the perfect replacement (even though no one can replace snake) or snake would win because snake always finds a way to beat someone.
Good lord this match up is awesome! The two are very similar with a penchant for sneaking up on people and hacking away with a knife without them knowing whats happening. Love of Bandanas. Now Rambo films occur mainly in the jungle meaning that this fight will have to occur there giving Rambo an edge as Snake is a specialist in urban warfare. In terms of equipment Snake will dominate as he has octocamo that renders him near invisible and his solid eye and radars further this as Rambo will have no where to hide. Weapons snake again kicks ass snipers, handguns, vast array of machine guns, railgun, mantis dolls beats the bow arrow, knife and gun combo that Rambo has. So Snake wins it if they were to both go fully laden into the jungle
However if they were to be given a knife a bandana and a pair of trousers with nothing else I would still give this one to snake. Snake is an expert in CQC which you have played MGS4 and seen it in the cut scene action will know is awesome. This coupled with the fact that Snake is genetically altered to be a near perfect warrior and has huge levels of endurance as seen from torture scenes and the long walk down a radioactive corridor.
To sum up snake dominates this fight totally
P.S yes this is excelent I reckon Snake is possibly the best charechter ever and as such a Snake vs will be great so please keep them coming here are some suggestions for futher ones
Snake vs A gundam suit- hard but he does love blowing up giagantic robots
Snake vs Woverine- similar attitude, simialr love or survival
Snake vs Punisher- see above
Snake vs Sam Fisher- cliche but oh well
Snake vs transformers- see gundam
Snake vs Batman- batman being one of the few ‘human’ superheores’
Snake vs Agent 47- both genetically enhanced, both sneaky
Well there are a few I’ll be back with more later
Added to the list, thanks! Admin
oh and how about a scenario based section called ‘Could solid snake…’ the situations could be things like ‘Could Solid snake have taken the city o sparta in 300?’ This would scenario would have had to see him sneak through the hotgates un noticed by 300 odd spartans and assasinate king leonidas then go onto sparta till without detection. Hard but then again he is solid snake the sneaking around legend. Another ‘Could Solid snake have destroyed the halo in halo?’ there was alot of comments on snake vs master chief with the majority saying that MC was better well this adds a new dimension to the discussion as while MC ran in guns ablazing and shot his way to victory could Solid Snake do the same but via stealth or would the situation need a gun toting hero?
That is just two quick ideas off the top of my head and so are not as good as could be but seriously give it some thought and you will realise that tehre is a chance that snake could do much of what the other charechters can despite not having the same credentials….
Rambo would destroy solid snake. I could see this match up playing out in the local senior citizens home. There would be a massive wheelchair race as Rambo shoots arrows at Solid. And then Solid tries hiding himself in a cereal box of captain crunch over his head just to have Rambo gives him the death blow.
Winner: Rambo
right thats it I’m now annoyed all those who say that snake is a senior citizen or he is too old to do things is a tw@. Play mgs4 and you will see he only looks old physically he is still a beast and his new suit doubles as a musel suit further argumenting his already ferocious skills. Solid kicks ass especially this roider nonce
ROb sort it out mate ss no longer goes for the boxes its now bins
SS OWNS RAMBO think it throughbetter weapons, better skillz better equipment better bandanda SS OWNS this fight
devils advocate,
yeah man i agree but im not making any fuss about it, because im sure that when they play MGS4 (seeing as how some of them can get over the snake bias) they will learn that they made mistakes.
its obvious that they dont know anything because you just pointed this out. snake is only old in looks and age. i mean he gets the cramps and back aches but come one the biggest proof of his superior physical skills is in the CQC at the end of the game! High kicks! and the beating he takes from ********** (i just didnt want to spoil it for most of you
snake is everything rambo is only better, even the brute force which the admin claim falls in favor of rambo i think is incorrect, for if they’ve seen the final fight in mgs4 they’ll see just how badass snake is when it comes to taking punishment and punishing in return!
@Big Al - I haven’t made it to the end yet so I’ll take your word for it! Admin
This is a cool question
.
If you take Big Boss (Naked Snake) from Metal Gear Solid 3, he’s basically the equal of Rambo. Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4 is in the future, so yeah he has better weapons but if Rambo was set in the same time-line he would have the same weapons so it’s just not a good comparison.
Solid Snake is also an urban stealth specialist(as mentioned by lloyd clayton), while Naked Snake is a jungle expert, so I think the best match-up would be against Naked, even in MGS4 it’s pointed out that Solid isn’t an expert in jungle combat. So would Naked Snake, the perfect soldier, beat Rambo, who easily carries the same mantle?
Well in First Blood part 2 Rambo’s file states that he can fly a helicopter, is a medic and is “language qualified”, which is probably 80s film terms for knowing a canny few languages. There is no mention or image of Snake flying a chopper, though he does possess a rudimentary medical skill, evidenced when he sets broken bones and heals himself in various ways. Snake loses out with the chopper pilot skills, as Rambo can make a quicker exit from combat. As far as language skills, Rambo has the ability to communicate with natives for information on his surroundings and he’ll understand enemies speaking in a foreign language, allowing him to understand their commands and responses. Snake may understand many languages but he never used this talent so we will never know. I say for his extra field talents Rambo gets the nod, but its possibly a moot point because Snake is a ghost, he doesn’t want to be interacting with the native people because that would confirm his existence, while flying a chopper would also draw attention.
Who’s more experienced?
From Rambo’s file he has:
2 silver star medals: For distinguished gallantry in action against an enemy or while serving with friendly forces against an opposing enemy force;
4 bronze star medals: For heroic or meritorious achievement of service, not involving aerial flight in connection with operations against an opposing armed force;
4 Purple Hearts: Awarded for wounds or death as result of an attack;
The Distinguished Service Medal: For exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility
and;
The Congressional Medal of Honour: For gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States
Snake is never mentioned in this light but he’s covert ops so he’s probably close to Rambo in terms of potential medals/achievement, however, there is no proof of this, and as you can see, Rambo has been wounded 4 times and a straight dozen times been recognised for his achievements in the field. Rambo’s probably the more experienced and in addition he was under orders for all of those medals, which is more impressive as he clearly works best relying on his own intuition and expertise.
Who’s tougher?
Both were tortured and didn’t give in. Hard to know, but the mere fact that Snake is so sneaky suggests that this is because he isn’t all in favour of shooting the sh*t out of things (although the games can be played in that manner), while this is definitely a Rambo speciality. Rambo is also sneaky and again in First Blood part 2 he mentions that the best weapon is the mind(ahead of any new technology or weaponry).This, coupled with some of the eerily camouflaged moments when he executes people make Rambo imposing when it comes to stealth. I say Rambo is tougher but Snake is probably the sneakier of the two, as throughout MGS3 using stealth is essential to progress through the game without being killed. This is not cut and dry though, in a lot of senses, Rambo’s interactions with his environment are more creative and intuitive, coupled with the fact that Rambo himself never made a mistake and got spotted, it was always down to a double-cross or a clumsy companion. Snake still gets the nod though as his method of stealth is a little bit more composed in its stance. When you consider that Rambo’s stealth scenes always end up with his killing people, whereas Snake can sneak through an area without being seen, Rambo definitely loses out.
Who’s the better soldier?
Rambo kills a lot with more anger and energy than Snake but again this comes down to how you play the game. I’d say that Snake is a more calculating soldier, measuring every move he makes and taking advantage of every terrain advantage he can find. However, he is not at the top of the food chain as far as things are concerned, with the true Big Boss (the female) being his superior in every aspect. While he does kill her at the end, she wanted it that way. I’d say that Rambo’s skill is unsurpassed in his own environment. The only key weakness in Rambo is his disillusionment with the government and his unstable mental state, which leads to bouts of rage and emotion.
So, straight to the point, who would win?
Rambo is a better hell-raiser but Snake is guaranteed to get the job done with as little mess as possible, he’s definitely more professional, but unlikely to put as many notches on his belt. If Rambo were left in the field for long enough he would probably lose his grip on his sanity and become a rogue operative.
So Rambo for any blitzkrieg style assaults on an enemy, he’s likely to wipe out an entire platoon or two leaving a lot of blood and smoke in his wake and dealing a blow to morale and supplies.
Snake on the other hand is the man to use when you want to assassinate someone important or do reconnaissance on the enemy, an individual with the tactical savvy and survival skills to remain in the field, undetected, for extended periods of time. Snake’s the man you can bet the house on to complete the mission with as few mistakes as possible.
So different roles for each soldier but definitely Snake wins as a more effective operative.
On to the actual battle between the two. Firstly, Rambo will be the more aggressive of the two, which, coupled with his experience may be enough to get him the kill. If Snake survives Rambo’s onslaught then he’s likely to place a clever shot here and there to slow Rambo down. With guns, it would be an extremely even contest, both have excellent knowledge of cover and tactical position, and while their shooting styles are different, both are effective. I think Rambo would win this encounter; he’s more accustomed to this style of warfare and is a better killer. In addition, did Rambo ever miss in any of his films? I don’t think so, apart from one knife throw in part 3.
In close combat, snake is highly skilled with knife and hand-to-hand (known as CQC) and is the more technical once again. Rambo is the stronger by far and his hand-to-hand skills are very effective, while his knife is bigger than snake’s and never seems far from his hand. I reckon, again, this would be a really close contest. Would Snake have the physique and stamina to resist such a powerful opponent? Would Rambo be technically gifted and alert enough to counter Snake’s combat style? I think this one comes down to the reaction times of both fighters, they’re both fast, perhaps Snake wins out in that department. If knives are used, Rambo wins, hands-down. He’s half native american and this may have something to do with his knife and bow skills (we all know the native american tribesmen were awesome in close combat, back in the day).If it’s a hand-to-hand fight, snake gets the edge for me, he’s a more technically gifted fighter and often someone who doesn’t have the brawn to rely on will become far more creative and adept at strategic combat. I think he would end up shifting Rambo’s leg, unbalancing him and finish him off with a rear choke sleeper hold.
Okay so that’s my take on the comparison. For all you MGS lovers, you shouldn’t disrespect Rambo, Kojima said himself that Rambo is half the inspiration for Snake (Snake Pliskin being the other half).In addition, I believe MGS3 is a tribute to these origins. The storyline is very similar to First Blood parts 2 and 3; Snake fighting Russians, all the Jungle parts, the desert mountain, blowing up the helicopter with the machine gun,Volgin etc.So, if you haven’t seen any of the old Rambo films, go and do so, as an MGS fan myself it let me see Rambo in a new light after making the association with MGS.As far as I’m concerned, the character Rambo is very similar to Snake, but the time when the comparison stops is when you compare the directors of Rambo and MGS.MGS is far more intricate, you connect with the characters on a different level and Kojima is an absolute genius, whereas(and the fact that I had to look this up just proves it)Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajina are not in anywhere near the same league.
I was hoping this would be big boss instead of snake. Snake is cool but big boss is the Man.
I think we can make that happen…
In a straight up gun fight it could go either way, but if snake has octocamo and sees rambo trottin through the jungle wavin his m6o around, rambo will die and have to be told by god what happened cuz he won’t know what hit him.
I agree with The One Sin if its an all out gun fight I think I have to give this to Rambo. But if Snake goes into hiding Rambo doesn’t stand a chance.
Oh and on a sidenote Snake would probabaly win in CQC fight too.
Okay,that’s a fair comment guys, no argument. But it’s not really Snake vs. Rambo, it’s Octocamo vs. Rambo. Bit of an unfair advantage considering a crippled monkey with one eye and a half decent aim could win a fight with Octocamo. Snake’s stealthy enough that he doesnt need to resort to using the “invisibility” suit. After all it’s no way to prove how stealthy you are when you have technology that does all the work for you
We never said he had to use octcamo, we just said he could use it. There are more ways than that snake can use to win.
snake vs darth vader…darth vader would KILL him
