Master Chief vs Link
May.20, 2008 in
Entertainment
This is a battle for the ages. MC has proven himself against many foes, but Link is one of the most resourceful hero characters to exist. Where Link lacks in strength, he makes up for in smarts - the same things in which the Chief does well also.
Master Chief
- Various weapon skills
- Regenerating Shields
- Multiple Vehicle selection
- Lone Wolf Mentality
- Super Cool Armor
Link
- Physically powerful
- Nimble
- Ability to use Magic
- Skilled at using many weapons
- Bearer of the Master Sword
So, which hero wins this this duel?

Weapons
-Masterchief can only carry two weapons at a time
-Link can carry more items than would seem physically possible
- Masterchief’s weapons all do the same thing (point and fire)
- Link’s items have more versatility than a Swiss army knife
In short, masterchief really only has a few ways he could take Link down, none of which would be very affective
Link on the other hand has more ways to win than he has items
And for those of you that wont accept that masterchief could lose, there are several ways Link could totally pwn him
- The Triforce (which basically has the power of god time three)
- The fierce Deity mask (which literally transforms Link in to a demigod)
- The Giant’s mask (Link could just step on masterchief to win)
- The Naru-magic-crystal (which makes Link invincible)
And don’t be lame and change the rules and say stuff like “oh but if Link didn’t have.. …then masterchief would win”, because we all know Link would have it, and would kick masterchief’s face in.

Man, the first half of my comment has seemed to have disappeared, could admin edit the stuff below to be at the start of my previous post,
Firstly, lets compare their attributes
Link is stronger than masterchief
- Masterchief is only able to flip tanks (which I should add are partially hollow),
- Link is able to lift and throw giant solid obelisks
Link is more agile than masterchief
- Link can back flip, perform jumping melee attacks, and turn around in under a second
- Masterchief can’t
Link is more durable than masterchief
- Link has 20 hearts, and numerous bottled fairies, and additional items that increase his durability
- Masterchief has a shield that can go down with a punch, or a few shots, and if he’s hit when that’s down, he’s dead
Now lets compair weapon power
Arrows are more powerful than bullets
- Arrows can break bullet proof glass, and penetrate bullet proof vests
- Bullets (obviously) can’t
Link’s arrows are more powerful that chief’s sniper
- Medieval bows are a lot stronger than modern ones (200bls compared to 50lbs)
- Link bow is magical and likely stronger than the average medieval ones
Being sniped wouldn’t do much damage to Link
- Link has been hit in games by arrows and crossbow bolts, and lost a heart or less
- As already explained, arrows are more powerful than bullets
- Therefore, a bullet would do less that a heart of damage. Link has like, 20 hearts, and numerous bottled fairies
Link can fire arrows at a much faster rate than masterchief
Link can aim a lot faster than masterchief
Link’s shield can protect him from all projectiles, masterchief has no defence
Mastercheif has no defence against magic, particularly fire arrows, and the flame thrower has shown masterchief to be highly flammable
All of this shows in a shoot out, masterchief has no chance
Some other comparisons
Explosives
- Masterchief can only carry two grenades
- Link has a sack full of bombs, and can even attach them to his arrows to increase range
…
and here is where my previous post is meant to be

First of all, Rockets would not work on Link, because Link has magic armor, which prevnts him from being hurt (at the cost of rupees). Master Chief has shield generators, so regular arrows would just snap. The Master Sword would cut energy sword in half. Link can freeze time with ocarina.Link can turn into a fierce deity (Fierce Deity Link), as well as Divine Wolf Link. Link has the triforce. MC has nothing at his disposal (cept guns). Link has that blue fairy no one loves and Midna. MC has Cortana. Either MC will laugh to his death upon seeing a crossdresser. Or possibly Link cuts his arms off and beats Chief with them.
( Oh and please try to make an MC versus Sora [from kingdom Hearts]).
- added to the list. Thanks! Admin

Remember now, Link can gain the golden gaunlets in Ocarina of Time. He could easily lift tanks…
Not only that, but Link can also gain a 1/4 heart damage reduction, meaning rather than 20 hearts, he might as well have 80…
And magic…c’mon! Magic alone can be Link’s unfiar advantage. He can uses Nayru’s Love to be invinicible, Din’s Fire to shoot fire, or Pharore’s Wind to teleport…
And Link’s ocarina, well, he can teleport with that too…
We cannot also forget to mention Link’s ability to breathe underwater with the aid of his water/Zora/blue tunic, and his iron boots that allow him to stay there…
And tunics, well, with his Goron/fire/red tunic, he is immune to effects of fire/dehydration.
And now that we’re on the subject of boots, wwe must also explain the Hover Boots…with them, Link can resist graviy for short periods of time.
Also– Link has the Master Sword. It cannot and will not be broken by anything. And MC could not wiled it either…only the true warrior can wield it’s immense power.
Another advantage–Navi. Yes, we all hate her…especially when she says “Listen,” but she (or another fairy aiding Link) could reveal MC’s weakness.
And a Light arrow would rip right through MC and his shields…a normal arrow wouldn’t (a magic one, yes).
And Link has a whole slew of Masks. If were fighting in a volcano, he could become a goron and dwell in the lava unscathed. If the two were fighting in water, he could equip his Zora mask and gain dolphin-like agility.
And the fierce deity mask…well, Link would literally become a…well, a god… he could shoot beams from his sword (like in the ridiculous lame cartoons!)
And with the great number of bottles Link has, he would also have great numbers of fairies. The fairies would bring him to life about 5/6 times…if he really needed to be…
And, well, Link has a lot of pets…Mooshu, Ricky, Dimitri, and Epona…They would all probably die in combat though…
And to close this off, Link has a part of the Triforce. The gods Pharore, Din, and Nayru would be in his favor…
May 26th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Oh, Link can also summon the four giants (huge giants…), and the Sages would aid in his comabt…
May 26th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
WHAT’S WITH LINK BEATINGUP THE MASTER CHIEF?! THE SPARTAN WOULD OBVIOSLY WIN! LINK HAS A LITTLE FAIRY THAT’S DOES NOTHING.BUT THE MC HAS A VERY HIGH-TECH AI THAT TELLS HIM EXACTLY WHAT TO DO TO DODGE HEAT SEEKING MISSILE, ROCKETS, AND OTHER STUFF LIKE THAT….(ARROWS COUNT)
P.S. TELL ME, WHAT IS THE MASTER CHIEF’S WEAKNESS?
May 26th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
I’ll tell you the Chief’s weakness… DEATH
May 27th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
links bambs will chew up MC sheilds
May 29th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
and I quote… “…VERY HIGH-TECH AI THAT TELLS HIM EXACTLY WHAT TO DO TO DODGE…”
It doesn’t tell him EXACTLY what to do. I’ve played the game and skimmed, I ADMIT, SKIMMED, through the books. The intel on his helmet gives signals, protection, and warnings. If the helmet told him exactly what to do, he’d be screwed without it…
So, in other words, you cannot come up with any proper explanation for Link’s defeatt, except for the already cliche response that Master Chief should win because he’s Master Chief…wow…
I also quote, “LINK HAS A LITTLE FAIRY THAT’S DOES NOTHING…”
Shows what you know…the main fairies like Navi and Tal do ALMOST nothing. The sub-par average fairies heal Link after death, and the Great Fairies grant power and full healing.
Yet again, I quote, “….(ARROWS COUNT)
Yes, normal arrows. But obviously, you have no concept of magic arrows…
Wow, Link and his crew just won another argument! How ’bout you try to counter my list of Link’s power’s with facts. Then I may consider his defeat…. But use actual arguments.
May 29th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Link also has the mirror should. As displayed in the games, BOTH lazers AND magic can be deflected or reflected with its use. Good luck getting through that.
Oh, and Link’s personal fairies have a use. Like MC’s helmet, they supply a targeting system. Link would have flawless aim.
One more thing–the Lens of Truth could also reveal MC’s location. If MC was cloaked, the Lens would reveal him. If MC was taking cover behind a rock (or some other cover) the Lens would also reveal him then, as well.
June 1st, 2008 at 12:49 pm
person a once used an atom bomb, so person a uses an atom bomb, person b loses.
So if your favorite is losing it’s ok to bring out everything he ever used? Face it, this is standard Link. Not Link that can transform in wolf and use the ocarina of time and whatnot, because those were different Links. Link’s sword, shield, arrows and bombs are all outmatched against MC arsenal. And before you say “but Link’s shield can stop lasers” know that Link’s shield isn’t that big and that MC can aim.
MC wins this one
June 4th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Link can’t take a bullet. MC can. you do the math. Even though Link is an elf, he’s gonna die if he gets shot. If MC gets shoot, his shield regenerate.
June 4th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Wow, there are a lot of Link supporters in here that seem to not give any credit to Master Chief. So please allow me to play Devil’s Advocate here to at least bring in the possibility of MC winning.
Shielding
-Which has proven to be able to take hits from nearly everything short of explosions and headshots.
-Quickly recharges if he can find cover for just a few moments, like 3 seconds.
-Can’t die if there is even a fraction of the shield up. 1% goes a long way.
Weapons
*
-Have the ability to be used in Melee with more damage than the bullets.
-ZOOM! Sniper Rifle = Headshot anyone?
-Many use some form of rapid fire.
-Halo 3’s Spartan Laser can rip apart EVERY VEHICLE with one shot.
-Are reloadable with one-hand, you dual-weilding fanatics.
-Can rip off turrets to hold a third weapon. *No more having to abandon a good gun, but has 2000 bullets once you do this.
Vehicles
-A wide variety that can handle any situation.
-Some fly! *Hit me baby, if you can!*
-Scorpion Tank, nothing survives against the main cannon.
-Kill just about anyone who get run down.
-Can be a mobile fortress. Sandtrap on Halo 3 has the Elephant. *Sure you can out run it, but can you dodge all the turrets firepower?*
-Can absorb more damage than MC, about 3 shields worth, before being destroyed.
Coortana
-Isn’t stuck at being just at MC’s side.
-Chose to be with Master Chief because he has something other Spartans lack. LUCK! *Start new game in Halo 3 for this revelation.*
Ok, so to start out this battle, let’s take a look at the different rides. Link, being on Epona *this is the only transportation I know he has*, can only shoot his arrows.
Link vs. MC: Mongoose = Link wins as Mongoose is weaponless.
Link vs. MC: Warthog = Link wins if MC is alone, otherwise MC wins because of man at the turret. AI is deadly accurate here.
Link vs. MC: Scorpion = MC wins, by shear default of one hit sky-rocketing Link to an untimely death, if not a deadly fall.
Link vs. MC: Elephant = Link wins if MC is alone, because hopping aboard is not a difficult task if no one mans the turrets, else MC wins.
Link vs. MC: Hornet = MC wins as he is flying around, machine gun ablazing, and homing rockets ablasting. Link cannot even hit him with his arrows.
Link vs. MC: Ghost = MC wins by dual-plasma action, a speed boost to mow down Link if he runs away, and unriveled strafing action.
Link vs. MC: Chopper = Link wins, though it’s a close call on this one. The Chopper has poor handling, imo, and gets destroyed way to easily and frequently.
Link vs. MC: Prowler = Link wins, again if MC is soloing. Have any companions and it’s the other way around. Plus, the Prowler can drive over anything. *Including barricades, which I’ve done.*
Link vs. MC: Wraith = MC wins because of the long-range artillery. Epona may be fast, but turning is not so great on a horse. The deadliness of the Wraith increase dramatically the closer you approach.
Link vs. MC: Banshee = MC wins because he is even more untouchable. Dual-lasers may be the only weapon, but speed boosts and aerial tricks make him harder to hit even at closer range.
Overall: Link is screwed if Master Chief is not on foot.
Now onto the next battle, with both out on the field, using their ranged weaponry. Link does have his magic arrows; Fire, Frost, and Light, and the ability to place bombs, but for lists sake, I’m just going to compare what I feel is Links best bet on what to use.
Link: Frost vs. MC: Assault Rifle = Link wins, as he needs to keep MC as far away as possible in this situation. The AR does more damage the closer the range, and with rapid fire, it would quickly tear through all the hearts Link has.
Link: Bombs vs. MC: Battle Rifle = Draw. Both have a good chance at winning this style of fight, thus Link has to use his bombs to get that opportunity to take MC out in a shot. The BR, however, does have a slight zoom feature, and does excellent damage in it’s burst fire.
Link: Anything vs. MC: Beam Rifle or Sniper Rifle = MC wins with a headshot. Some will argue that Link’s ‘Lens of Truth’ will reveal a hidden MC. That’s not true. The Lens is not a radar, and would only reveal MC if he was cloaked. There’s a reason why they used ‘Truth’ instead of ‘X-Ray Vision’.
Link: Bombs vs. MC: Brute Shot = Link wins once MC runs out of shells with the BS. It simply holds less than ample rounds compared against Link’s bag size. Plus, as they both would be dodging explosions, accuracy is diminished.
Link: Bombs vs. MC: Covenant Carbine = Draw. The Carbine does offer a zoom feature for greater accuracy, a stronger punch, but only fires a single shot at a time. If Link keeps MC moving around, it’s hard to take advantage of those benefits, and this turns to anyone’s game.
Link: Frost vs. MC: Flamethrower = Link wins by keeping MC far enough away to make the flamethrower a moot weapon. Only if they were in a forest would it become a possible draw, destroying the environment as well.
Link: Fire vs. MC: Fuel Rod Gun = MC wins by staying outside the effective range of bombs, forcing Link to use non-splash arrows. After that, he only needs to get a shot to hit close to Link.
Link: Bombs vs. MC: Machine Gun Turret or Plasma Cannon = MC wins even as Link keeps him moving to avoid the explosions of his bombs. With turrets now being detachable, MC can move about while still laying down the heat.
Link: Anything vs. MC: Magnum = Link wins as the Magnum feels link it has been downplayed again. Damage is up at close range, and it’s very accurate, but you need to be at close range for it to be effective.
Link: Anything vs. MC: Mauler = Link wins despite the Mauler being a shotgun variant. Only if MC can get in close and is dual-wielding does his odds go up.
Link: Anything vs. MC: Missle Pod = MC wins with this new support weapon. Eight shots without reloading can prove fatal, and being designed to penetrate vehicles, Link’s shields just can’t stand up.
Link: Bombs vs. MC: Needler = MC wins with this one, even as Halo 3 made it a single-wield. Aiming in just the right direction is enough to get Link hit as he tries to keep MC moving. Too bad they also explode for additional damage once a cluster have hit their target.
Link: Anything vs. MC: Plasma Pistol = Link wins with this one as MC HAS TO overcharge the PP in order for it to not be a joke. Considering that charging will continue to draw suck the batteries, consumption to damage is pitiful, and to top it off, the gun then MUST cooldown before it can fire again.
Link: Bombs vs. MC: Plasma Rifle = Link wins if, and only if, the Mirror Shield can deflect Plasma, because he’s gonna need it to have MC deplete his ammo first. A counter-attack of bomb arrows can keep MC’s accuracy down.
Link: Anything vs. MC: Rocket Launcher = MC wins even though the auto-lock for vehicles was lost. Instead, it now has a slight course correction towards people while maintaining it’s superior range.
Link: Anything vs. MC: Sentinal Beam = MC wins so long as Link’s Mirror Shield can’t deflect this. Even then, considering the beam hits exactly where it’s aimed and eats through shields and flesh with amazing speed, Link will fall quickly. Because of the sustainability factor, Link does not get a chance to strike back.
Link: Frost vs. MC: Shotgun = Link wins just like he did with the mauler. Short range weapons, while strong, cannot compete if they can’t get close.
Link: Bombs vs. MC: SMG = Links wins as long as he can keep MC from approaching into close quarters. Bombs have to be used to keep MC moving about to lower the SMG accuracy, but if MC gets up there, consider Link toast to the rapid fire.
Link: Anything vs. MC: Spartan Laser = MC wins as there is nothing that stops that blast. Capable of instantly killing five targets, standing in a row, and still destroying a heavy vehicle, Links chances of absorbing even one hit are looking impossible. Has the same range as a rocket launcher.
Link: Bombs vs. MC: Spiker = MC wins in this fight, even as Link keeps him moving about. Unlike the SMG, the Spiker is capable of shooting off the ground, deflecting back up, and offers more chances to hit Link. Dual-Wield this one, and you’ll be lucky to hear a pause.
Link: 9 MC: 9
Overall: It all depends on what Master Chief brings with him to the fight, cause Links versatility of arrows covers many circumstances, except for the very long range and heavy rapid fire.
Lastly we come down to the Melee section, which will be rather short in comparison to the others. This is because Link has his Master Sword, and really, does he use anything else that effectively? Master Chief does gain a new weapon here, with Halo 3, so it isn’t a straight MS vs. ES.
Link vs. MC: Energy Sword = Link wins. Sadly Halo 3 reduced the lunge range of the Energy Sword while Link has maintained a retinue of skills he can use with his. Just spamming the sword swirl is enough to keep MC just at the edge. It doesn’t help that when the ES runs out of power, it’s all over.
Link vs. MC: Gravity Hammer = MC wins with this new toy. Unlike the Energy Sword, this weapon doesn’t even have to strike it’s target to do damage. Sending out a repulsor wave with every swing, Link will be tossed around like a rag doll. Best part, when the charges run out, you can still hit with it. Has the instant kill ability of the ES with the AoE of a grenade.
Overall: Link had better look at what is being brought to this fight. His shields might stop the Energy Sword, but he’ll be thrown back relatively far if the Gravity Hammer is used.
So there you have it, Link and Master Chief being about on Par with one another, unless it comes to their rides. You can factor in the fact that Link has faeries with him, but I think that Master Chief would just gun them down before they have the chance to bring Link back.
EXCELLENT post, Dartmoor. Thank you! Admin

but one thing MC has is the ability to use distance to his advantage. it only takes one snipe round to end this fight
June 9th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
“Link: Anything vs. MC: Beam Rifle or Sniper Rifle = MC wins with a headshot. Some will argue that Link’s ‘Lens of Truth’ will reveal a hidden MC. That’s not true. The Lens is not a radar, and would only reveal MC if he was cloaked. There’s a reason why they used ‘Truth’ instead of ‘X-Ray Vision’.”
I wasn’t implying that the Lens of Truth was a radar, merely a way to reveal MC in a cloaked form.
“Link: Anything vs. MC: Spartan Laser = MC wins as there is nothing that stops that blast. Capable of instantly killing five targets, standing in a row, and still destroying a heavy vehicle, Links chances of absorbing even one hit are looking impossible. Has the same range as a rocket launcher.”
Back to the old magic vs. technology debate… If magic is as powerful as one claims, his magic shields that block his ENTIRE body in a magical encased crystal can block a spartan lazer…or anything else he has to offer.

“So there you have it, Link and Master Chief being about on Par with one another, unless it comes to their rides. You can factor in the fact that Link has faeries with him, but I think that Master Chief would just gun them down before they have the chance to bring Link back.”
I don’t think Master Chief would have time to gun down the agile and small faries…
And yes, MC would probably win, if not for magic. With Nayru’s love, Link is invincible, yes invincible from anything…
And with the Giant’s mask, link could literally become a giant and easily step, yes step, on MC (assuming MC lets him…)

mc won

PROJECT ALICE!
I AM CALLING YOU OUT ON YOUR ABSURD STUPIDITY! WHAT IS HIS WEAKNESS?
-he is a mortal
-he bears no magic
-his shield is limited, and falls fast under consistent damage
-he is not buletproof, or anything rpoof for that matter, even the butt of a sturdy rifle
-he has a limited field of vision with his helmet on, because if you’ve ever played little league, or ridden a motrocycle, or done ANYTHING with a helmet on, you’ll notice your peripheral vision is greatly limited
-he sucks at dodging, seriosuly, other than jumping high up in the air, when does he ever show decent mobility in the games? he just thunks around like a big boxy green lug
THERE! THOSE ARE HIS WEAKNESSES!
p.s. speaking of big green lugs, maybe a little MC vs the HULK action?
Ask and you shall receive:

Agility: MC wins hands down against Link. Mc’s speed is unrivaled.
Jumping: Yet again, MC wins. This is an obvious and overstated fact…
Arsenal: One could claim MC has the upper hand here, but I would have to say, Link’s arsenal is very large indeed. We must take into account that in the games (and novels) Master Chief can only carry so many weapons (this is where I can get confused–MC won’t ALWAYS have a energy sword or a Gravity hammer). This is not so with Link. Link can carry as many as he so pleases. Just watch the old cartoons or play a more recent Twilight Princess. From a magical pouch he can hold any sum of items. So, yes, Link could draw upon any item he so chose.
Intellect: MC has tactical intellect that would insure him superior battle-strategy–this same intellect would not insure him victory. Link has an intellect that isn’t so immensely huge, just above average. Link’s personable attributes make him better off making allies off the battle field before entering.
Instinct: Link has instinct to hunt and to live…this comes from lving in a Kokiri forest or with a village you always protect. MC has instinct gained from warfare experience and enhancments. So they tie here.
Enhancements: MC has obvious enhancements–this is where he gains all of his power (besides his suit). Link, on the other hand, is a natural fighter with no enhancements besides magic. And this magic is a grand weapon indeed. It grants Link invincibility, the ability to shoot beams from his sword, the ability to shoot magical arrows (faster than the speed of light–like a lazer…but enhanced with magic),and so forth.
Link also has several masks that can make him: Giant sized, a god, a deku, a zora, a goron, a fairy “gatherer”, a ghost watcher, invisible (not even master chief’s scanners could accurately locate Link), and so forth.
This brings me to another argument. The Stone Mask. It makes Link UNNOTICED by anyone and everyone. So, yes, MC could see him, but he wouldn’t know he is seeing Link…It would be like seeing a stone…a small stone, just like any other stone.

I think 2 other components that should be taken in to account against chiefs speed and jumping
A. epona whom can be called and at links side in about 10 sec Loz Tp) which in many respects could rival links speed and link can still shoot off of and fight off of
B. The dual claw shots would allow link two automatically bring chief near him climb any mountain or link on to the bottom of any flying vehicle and fight chief
a third thing that should be noticed is each link in each game is a different link
June 25th, 2008 at 2:18 am
My two favorite characters in a head to head?
It’s a dream come true…
One Link only? Even if you had to pick one Link, between all the 3D Zeldas I dare you to find a Link MC can beat so easily. Even the fruity Windwaker Link has L-target, magic arrows and his own magic armor to name a few of several helpful items.
OK let’s get down to business
It’s really hard to translate damage… (if anyone can find a Halo to Zelda damage equivalence I would love to hear it)
DEFENSE:
Link’s magic shield or magic armor vs Master Chief’s shield and armor:
MC has a strong physical defense, but how does that compare to magic?
Link can take more abuse than Chief can with any of the many defense systems he acquires. Not to mention the amount of health he has.
OFFENSE:
Link can get fried with MC’s long ranged attacks, given it would take a great deal of rounds to take Link down. In Twilight Princess Link gets the hawk eye, which can make the bow into a sniper rifle, yet without the projectile speed of the unsc sniper MC is more effective than Link at long range.
Once MC is in range Link can hit with any number of spells, transformations or magic weapons including all powerful light arrows.
At close range Link has a good chance with the master sword, remember MC is limited to two weapons and to be honest they should be human, because he can’t just order up a ceremonial Covenant weapon at the tip of a hat (plus plasma swords and brute hammers don’t last as long as Links weapons).
VEHICLES:
MC vehicles are no match for Link’s magic arrows: Ice, fire, and light arrows. If Links sees MC in a hornet… L target… ICE arrow… CRASH! Link also has a number of different spells he can use on these vehicles as well.
Although Epona is not a “vehicle” she is tranzportation, but in the long run I think she is as useful as MC’s vehicles. Perhaps she is even more useless at this time.
MC wins a useless vehicle competition, whoopty freaken do.
Basically for MC to win this fight he has to play it smart, stay the hell away from Link because he can’t get close enough to take him out with his hands, and pray that he has enough ammo.
As a final note I am curious as to reaction time with both characters. If you count only game play and not extra universe augmentations i.e. the halo books, Link’s targeting system just owns.
June 26th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
sorry but i grew up with zelda games so i say link i mean his sword is unbreakable he has a nice targeting system alot of gear and even more weps and why the hell would MC and Link fight in the first place
