Well, I have to admit that I never saw this one coming. After looking into some information, I thought there was some merit to this match-up. While Blue Thunder arrived in the cinemas and 1 short season on TV, Airwolf lasted 4 seasons, and had a MUCH cooler theme song.

Airwolf.
Better weapons;
2x30mm cannons (which makes 60) compared to 2mm cannon.
Sidewinder missiles, compared to none.
And as Airwolf is bullet proof, and BlueThunder only has bullets, it wont be much of a fight.
And I can’t see how cameras and microphones would help

I think I have to go with Airwolf here. It doesn’t have whisper mode but the sidewinder missiles and bullet-proof armored fuselage I think makes up for that. But when it comes to air combat it’s also up to the pilot and Airwolf has 4 seasons of experience too over Blue Thunder. So the winner would have to be Airwolf.

I would imagine that ‘Silent hover/flight mode’ would be equivalent to ‘Whisper Mode’, but neither are really going to be any use in a dogfight, and are only useful if you want to sneak up/catch off guard some people who aren’t expecting a ruddy great helicopter.

1st – compare the use of each vehicle
Air Wolf – Military Helicopter stolen. has Military applications from the start. designed to fight other helicopters and ground forces. excellent imaging systems, pop out guns, can do 360, turbo boost, etc…
Blue thunder – created for a paramilitary group.
what is the difference between these groups
Soldier/ military – person has a gun (bang he is dead, “stop or I will shoot)
Cop – person has a gun, “stop or I will shoot, bang!”
SWAT bang, bang, bang “drop the gun or I will shoot”
Blue thunder was designed to fight in an environment where most people will not have AP rounds. Blue thunder is designed to take out riots (most people rioting do not have anti-helicopter ship missiles in thier pockets). it was designed to say, “stop or I will shoot, bang!”
Air wolf was designed to say, “bang, stop or I will shoot”
Given the armor protection, Air wolf will have the advantage.
Given the size ration, blue thunder will have the advantage.
Air wolf is more likely to have ap rounds.
Blue thunder is not.
Blue thunder does not have missiles, air wolf does.
I would have to say that given the initial design on each craft, Air wolf has the battle. it was made for battling much more dangerous foes. Blue thunder was designed to take out riots. I doubt that a .45 pistol will affect her. If a rioter can throw a brick with the velocity great enough to cause damage to Blue Thunder, you are now in Metropolis and you need Superman. that means that you are dealing with a super being who does not like cops.

AIRWOLF don’t have sidewinders, have little rockets under his belly; and yes, has more machine guns, but are fixed, so Airwolf have to rotate all his body to the target.
The say has armor but I don’t see it taking fire or direct hits from enemy. Airwolf is like a ferrari car, nice looking and fast, that’s it.
Now, BLUE THUNDER has only one weapon, but is lethal AND REAL, a 20mm rotary cannon with helmet mountsight, so, is not necessary to move all the aircarft to the target, just look and shoot in any direction; and the Blue Thunder has 2.5 inch military armor, we all see it taking direct hits, also has turbo boost to increase speed. Blue Thunder is not good looking (the AH-64 Apache is not beautiful also), is just like a Hummer, to sustain and endure battle, and that is the idea. For me the Blue Thunder is better for combat.
