What If...Roddenberry made Star Wars and Lucas made Star Trek?

Suggested by IroxFP

How would the tone and overall structure of these IPs be different?
Would each of them be as successful as they are today?
What other things could result?

Both’s fanbase would evaporate and both would probably be considered some of the worst Sci-Fi’s ever made.

Star Trek’s OS would have been over all better, but probably lacked the dedicated “intellectual fanbase” that kept it going and helped spark TNG due to the heavier focus on fighting and less on the engineering and philosophical aspects of the show.

    Star Wars would have sucked.

Both would’ve been imminently forgettable Sci-Fi dreck.

Episodes IV-VI would have all the boring talking and politics of the prequels, and Star Trek would have far too much dumb action per episode. Plus Wars’ effects would stink if they were stuck to a TV series budget.

Oh god, that sounds terrible. I would say that star wars would smell less like bacon and cash today though (thanks Lucas!)

What if the moon was your car and Jupiter was your hair brush?

That picture of Roddenberry looks like something from star trek. Funny,

The young Roddenberry who wrote the OS episode “The Omega Glory”, or the old Roddenberry who wanted to have guys wearing miniskirts, and wales on board the ship?

About the same amount of difference as there is between the Lucas who gave us Han Solo, and the Lucas who thought Gunguns, a whiny teenage Darth Vader, and midichorians were a good idea.

Only with Lucas it’s less “old Vs young” as “not having complete control Vs having absolute control over everything“, though… To be fair, the same is likely true with Roddenberry to a lesser extent. If for no other reason, then that, AFAIK, he never had the kind of control Lucas did with the PT, otherwise we’d of likely had the man-skirts and space wales(though there might of been one or two man-skirts is season one of TNG anyway, I forget).
