This might become one of the most popular posts all time on this site.
For this universe battle, on one side we have all characters and franchises that are labeled as Comics going up against all those that are considered to be Manga.
Besides the typical scenarios for a universe match, also determine which style you prefer to read, and which ones have better characters.
When the dust settles, which side would emerge the winner?

I’ll assume this will just come down to the big hitters on either side,
__
So who are the big guns?
GODS VS GODS! Please don’t make me choose (or sort through all of these!)
I’m gonna have to shoot for… comics. At least in the reading part. For one, color. I may be wrong, but every manga scan I’ve ever seen was black and white… harder to read. Secondly, the characters in comics usually have decades to develop, and if something stupid is done (I dunno, killing Superman only to have him come back for some reason), they can fix it in a really, really, really cool way. (OH! Turns out Necron was LETTING everyone who was dead come back to litter the world with sleeper agents to his Black Lantern Rings. Now it looks like you’re all f*cked.)
Well this is interesting.
The fight as Ruliya said it comew down to heavy hitters which excluding omipotents and all still leaves much on the comics side. But I don’t have much knowledge of whats on the manga side.
The one above all.
/thread
Well comics have Hulk.
I’m sure that Hulk will be one of the big hitters for comics.
We will be looking at some anime characters as well. like Light Yagami from death note. who has the ability to just wright down a persons name in the death note and he dies. Although it states a “Human Being”, and not all comic characters are humans.
You can find that here.
deathnote.wikia.com/wiki/Light_Yagami
Hmmm, if he and Z are on the Manga side, then barring Kami!-form, does the Comics side have anything on the level of 616!-Sorcerer Supreme Strange to send against Original!-Tenchi Masaki with the ‘No Need for Tenchi’ E.U factored in?
But seriously folks, Megas XLR vs the Gurren Lagann will be the fight to see, NQA for the two sides, if the XLR is in comics actually.
For the Universe Fight:
I’ve heard about Doctor Solar being horrendously powerful, but that’s about it.
.
I say we remove beings like TOAA and The Presence because those guys alone will destroy the manga forces.
.
Same goes for anyone on the manga side who’s just as powerful.
-
As for the style I prefer, I’m equally comfortable with either one.
.
Well-developed characters? This question is opinion-based, so I’ll give my opinion.
2.bp.blogspot.com/_XdP6Lp2ceqY/TIRcrgqlGXI/AAAAAAAAa9s/w6ZBh43oqJU/s1600/calvin-and-hobbes.jpg
Dark Schneider, Alucard(Hellsing), Kenshiro, Any Top-Tier DBZ Character, Hell Girl, Lengendary Pokemon, a cubic assload of magical girls, Sailor Girls, Tetsuo(Akira), The DaiGurren, Shinigami(Bleach and Death Note).
-
Dr. Strange, Deadpool, Supes, Magneto, Batman, Dr. Doom, Dormamu, Spawn, Spidey, Thor, Loki, Galactus, Silver Surfer.
-
Things will get ugly.
@Obyron
You missed Hulk bro.
lol i would like to se Goku and vegeta they can always fuse and become ssj4 gogeta.
“see”
Sorry
Not even going to comment on the universe battle.Don’t think in terms of TOAA or LoN Lina, they are nothing when you got characters who can break the 4th wall and interact with our reality.
-
As for which I prefer to read I will have to go with comics.The fact that most of the time they are full color alone sways me to choose for them and the usual black&white contrast typical in manga looks really messy especially when it’s a battlescene, atleast that’s how I experience it.
-
Better characters is mostly opinion.I read both comics and manga and if I don’t like the character I drop it.So the comics and manga I do read all have good characters IMO.
Thor with odin force or whatever,Superman the army. Mandrakk the Dark monitor. The Anti Monitor.
-
Who ever that guy chuck inglish is always talking about,I cant remember his name
-
The Watcher,The Deadpool who killed the marvel Universe.Lobo,The Spawn army. The Darkness,The Angelus,Squirrl Girl
-
And to top it all off: Supreme
There are Doctor Who comics, just thought I’d throw that out there ;P
Small question: do europe stuff (tin tin, lucky luke, smurf and the like) count as comic, and chinese-korean stuff count as manga (not gonna make things get any different though)
That pointer from Dora the Explorer solos.
.
Also,
tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou
There are star wars, star trek, and Gi joe comics and of course DC and Marvel, doctor who, so many of them to name but im siding with the comics for now
Comic incarnations of non comic franchises (Doctor Who or Halo for example) are ok?
This has pretty much been done with anime.
Comics win.
Also Manga is a comic just black and white and japanese. But not always.
Wow, in a fight, its hard to tell who would win.
Which I prefer to read? Manga.
Better characters? Manga, because the characters are usually more consistent. In Marvel and DC Comics, characters change personalities depending who is writing them.
@Tails111
Superman is the most consistently boring character ever.
@ Praetor Prefect
Ouch, Superman can be kinda bland, but he has his moments…
Animated Superman is better
-

@Itcheyness
That scene was awesome.
Actually, Justice League/Unlimited was awesome as a whole.
Thinking comics probably.
Isn’t it the smae s*** jsut in a differnet formant?
Both comics and manga have so many OP character and literal gods that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to determine the victor.
Hmmm..then gain, comics do have God-Man….
lol the ironic thing is right where it cut off super loses horribly.
-
As for scenario one, it’s too speculative, and I don’t find it fun comparing gods :/
-
for scenario 2 I actually prefer manga because there is generally finality and all references to the character in them manga are canon with no ulterior writings from other authors to give multiple incarnations, which in my opinion makes it easier when gauging the actual abilities and powers of the individuals themselves in the manga.
“Animated Superman is better”
-
Animated DC in general tends to be better.
===
“Superman is the most consistently boring character ever.”
-
Action Comics is actually pretty good with not making superman boring. His main title though is not so much but the fact that he seems to either take on character around his level or and some special twist does keep it from being boring.
===
Comics have both Doctor Who and Star Trek. Also several superman clones.
===
I prefer Comic for the color and the extended stories, and universes. Most manga I actually prefer the anime instead.
“is not so much but”
-
I mean not as good.
Dialogue is pretty crappy at times.
I’m not sure who wins here.
Alot of powerful Manga characters tend to do things that manipulate souls or spirits and the mecha characters tend to be pretty close to indestructable. Manga characters dont tend to have a weakness either, and if they do it’s usually specific to the Manga villain.
Comic characters fall into two categories usually, Superhumans and vigilantes. Superhuman Comic characters tend to be very strong but usually have an exploitable weakness like kryptonite and magic for superman and the colour yellow for green lantern. Superhuman comic characters dont usually fight to kill in most comic books either. The vigilante comic characters tend to be a bit more brutal in their approach using guns knives and all kinds of other sutf, but at the end of it all their just human and will most likely die early in this fight.
I’m gonna list off some characters on both sides that I think could be heavy hitters.
Manga:
-Alucard “Hellsing”
-Killy “BLAME!”
-Light Yagami “Deathnote”
-Guts “Berserk”
-Ichigo “Bleach”
Comics:
-Dr. Manhattan “Watchmen”
-Saint of Killers “Preacher”
-The Tick “The Tick”
-The Cenobytes “Hellraiser”
-Johnny the Homicidal Maniac “J.T.H.M.”
“Superhuman comic characters dont usually fight to kill in most comic books either. The vigilante comic characters tend to be a bit more brutal in their approach using guns knives and all kinds of other sutf, but at the end of it all their just human and will most likely die early in this fight.”
-
Where do characters like Wonder woman Aquaman, Green Lanterns, Apollo, Thor, and Sentry fall?. there superhuman and take the brutal approach.
Also add Captain Atom to the list for comics. He’s like Dr. Manhattenbut with more feats.
” I’m gonna list off some characters on both sides that I think could be heavy hitters.
Manga:”
_
The characters you listed are all in the low to mid range.
How about the ones like Zeus and Odin multiple galaxy threats dont know much about manga characters going with comics for now.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Mangaverse
.
Question: Where do Webcomics belong to?
Manga does have OnePunch Man. Who should be able to take out basically all the low tier heroes and villian. His abilitiy is exactly what his name suggest.
mangafox.me/manga/onepunch_man/c005/4.html
Manga do have Gurren Lagann which means Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?
Final Getsuga Tenshou from Bleach?
then again there are OP characters in the comics too.
This is impossibru!!

Manga is my preferred read, mostly because of fantastical settings and continuity. But there are some comics that I love, too.
-
And personally, I would love to see Hulk and Broly(I know, he’s anime only, still awesome.) having a RAGE-off. That, and maybe Dr. Strange getting into a heated argument with Darsh over how to use magic properly. Also, Batman trying to stop Light Yagami(from before killing L).
I’m leaning towards manga, but I’ve read more than comics.
Manga wins in a universe battle, no contest.
Some manga with hacks characters:
Tenchi Muyo
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo
Akira
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure
Asura’s Wrath Kai
Nasuverse
Slayers
Saint Seiya
Sailor Moon
Bastard!!
Bleach
Haruhi Suzumiya
TYPE-MOON mangas
Isn’t Kami Tenchi omnipotent?
@ Rider
I think so.
And so is Suzumiya from Haruhi Suzumiya.
Marvel has my favorite comic chracter Genis-Vell:media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/6592/187197-59181-genis-vell_super.jpg
Genis points and shoots an then:

The funnies from the news paper beat both!
Can’t stand either Manga or Comics as a general rule, though some of the storylines do interest me I can’t be dealing with a) buying them and b) reading them piece by piece. The the animated versions of each are tolerable in some cases though.
-
@Tarbel
-
Seriously?
-
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo actually the name of a Manga series?
-
By the Flying Spaghetti Monster the Japanese need to sort their shit the fuck out…
“Better characters? Manga, because the characters are usually more consistent. In Marvel and DC Comics, characters change personalities depending who is writing them.”
-
This is a matter of opinion. I tend to not like anime much because most of the characters are high school students around the age of 15, awkward as hell around girls for some odd reason or the other when in real life we tend to start having sex at that age, most of them center around that chosen savior of the world crap, it takes 20 episodes for the shows to go anywhere since its doused in filler and fuckery, annoying charging up scenes(i’m looking you DBZ, Naruto, Fairy Tail, Bleach, etc etc), the things are just too ridiculous and child like for my taste. Not to say that they don’t have their fair share of mature themed content but in this day and age they try too hard to appeal to too many audiences and look like the same guy drew them because 9/10 they are a cash in on previous ideas.
-

Spoken like a man who does not know what the fuck he;s talking about. List of top tier being who revel in brutality.
-
Spawm(All of Them)
Redeemer(All of Them)
Malbogia
Mammon
God
Devil
The Darkness
The Angelus
The Witchblade
Thor
Superman Prime
Doomsday
The Phoenix
New Son
Cable
Onslaught
Hulk
Dr. Doom
Dormmamu
Thanos
-
Plenty of top tier murders for you and many more.
There are also the lesser known comic publishers, such as IDW, Chaos, Mirage, and Dynamite Entertainment., and Dark Horse, sure some of these are owned by other companies but that doesn’t detract from them having their own multiverses.
So…will we be using gods and omnis, are not?
@redrum
Thats kinda not true. Yeah, many manga have their main characters in high school, but not all of them. There are plenty with adult main characters:
Pluto
Black Cat
Clover
Rurouni Kenshin
Berserk
Heroic Age
Some Gundam manga
Monster
House of 1000 Leaves
Toriko
Some Saint Seiya manga
And plenty more.
He said most have children Main characters and a lot of them do. but he also said it was his opinion so it doesnt really matter
-
Jackie Estacado can kill you with the Darkness inside of you,Does anyone have defense against that?
@Amm0vamp1r3
I could list many characters that darkness can’t hurt.
Sailor Moon, for example, is the anti-thesis of dark. She would probably kill Jackie by hugging him.
And Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura has the Light card, which can destroy all darkness.
“Thats kinda not true. Yeah, many manga have their main characters in high school, but not all of them. There are plenty with adult main characters:”
-
Hence why I used the word most.
-
Besides that Guts started out as a teenager and then grew into an adult as the anime/manga went on.
-
That doesn’t negate the fact that an overwhelmingly large majority of anime and manga feature high school students as the main characters which I find kind of creepy since a lot of these are also extremely violent featuring bodies being torn apart and overly large titties of said high school students meaning they were meant for adult viewing. That says something about the populace there.
Well Jackie Does great against the actually thing made to destroy him,the Angelus,So killing him isn;t as trivial as you make it seem
@redrum
Oooh, than you should never read Hunter x Hunter. It features really cute, wide-eyed main characters.
It is also known as the most violent Shonen Jump manga ever.
“I could list many characters that darkness can’t hurt.

And Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura has the Light card, which can destroy all darkness”
-
That’s not how The Darkness works. The Darkness is one half of creation its other half being The Angelus or The Light. Jackie is no longer damaged by the light anymore anyway. Besides that Sailor Moon stands no chance against The Darkness nor any card captors. The Darkness can swallow the universe in a black hole if it so chooses. The only thing stopping it from doing so is the pact it has with The Angelus. They are both universe level entities who can create anything they so desire based off their domains including complex organisms and drinkable water.
@Amm0vamp1r3
Maybe so, but Sailor Moon, by the end of the manga, is cosmic level, and has universal manipulation abilities.
And Sakura has cards that can literally erase you from existance.
Which reminds me since they are working together that means both halves of creation and their child the Witchblade will be united as one. I wonder what will happen then. Do they become God? Does the universe implode? Who knows.
@redrum
Sailor Moon once re-created the entire world after Sailor Saturn destroyed it. She could probably negate a black hole.
“Sailor Moon once re-created the entire world after Sailor Saturn destroyed it. She could probably negate a black hole.”
-
Creating a world and creating a black hole that can swallow the universe is 2 different magnitudes of power. You do know how big the universe is right? Now picture the size of the hole needed to swallow it. Then picture the amount of power needed to create that hole. Not to mention that both The Darkness and The Angelus and The Witchblade will be united as 1. I doubt Sailor Moon or most other anime can compete with that since neither can be truly destroyed.
@redrum
Sailor Saturn would still win. If she uses her final attack, she destroys all of existance (at least, according to the manga).
“Sailor Saturn would still win. If she uses her final attack, she destroys all of existance (at least, according to the manga).”
-
Good thing for the Darkness/Angelus/Witchblade they have their own universe to retreat to.
@Redrum
I guess they’re good at hiding.
Besides that you can’t destroy The Darkness nor The Angelus nor The Witchblade. You can only destroy their hosts namely Jackie and whoever The Angelus and Witchblade is at the moment. How do you destroy Darkness and Light exactly?
So about that killing her with the darkness inside her, and I dont know if angelus has something like it or not, has she ever came back from something like that. And it being shown. And he did that while under the light intensity of 3 suns at high noon
@redrum
Maybe one can’t destroy them….but you can absorb them.
Yakon from DBZ eats light, and Sensui from YuYu Hakusho can convert light and darkness into weapons, armor, and various powers.
“So about that killing her with the darkness inside her, and I dont know if angelus has something like it or not, has she ever came back from something like that. And it being shown. And he did that while under the light intensity of 3 suns at high noon”
-
I’m going to go out on a limb and say no she never ever faced anyone like Jackie before nor an attack like that so they’re all dead. Next anime character please.
@Amm0vamp1r3
Well, Sailor Moon has “died” at least once, and come back pages later, but….its a really weird and vague scene that is never really explained.
And she’s been able to survive even with her soul gone.
“Maybe one can’t destroy them….but you can absorb them.
Yakon from DBZ eats light, and Sensui from YuYu Hakusho can convert light and darkness into weapons, armor, and various powers.”-
-
No. The Darkness once again acts on a higher scale and is once again one half of creation. Same with the Angelus. And now they are 1 in this fight along with the Witchblade. Thus they would be the ones doing the devouring not the other way around.
@Redrum
I don’t know. Sailor Moon has faced Mistress 9, who is said to be the Goddess of Destruction who will cause the Apocalypse.
You want stronger manga characters? Well, we have the mechas from Gurren Lagann, who can throw galaxies.
And in Shaman King, one character becomes god. Literally god. Of course, if we’re not counting gods, than that doesn’t matter.
@redrum
Well, Dark Megaman gets stronger the more darkness there is, so theres that.
Apocalypse isn’t that impressive unless we are talking on a dimensional scale because War from darksiders caused the “apocalypse” but jackie would destroy him
-
Is this all comics or current incarnation of all comics?
“Well, Dark Megaman gets stronger the more darkness there is, so theres that.”
-
Stopping him from getting swallowed though no homo?
@Amm0vamp1r3
I assume all comics, but current for each. I could be wrong though.
But yeah, the apocalypse isn’t that great. I can name manga characters who have survived galaxies blowing up.
@redrum
Well, Dark Megaman seemingly can’t be killed unless Megaman’s heart is purified, but I don’t see Jackie doing that.
“You want stronger manga characters? Well, we have the mechas from Gurren Lagann, who can throw galaxies.

-
Meet The Mother. She/he is above God. Also know as Jesus Christ which is The Word of God made manifest in Human Flesh and is the most powerful aspect of God. You read your bible right?
Yea Im not saying jackie is going to solo or anything but he is hard to put down and he packs a punch being half of creation and able to create ( dont want to be a NLF) anything he wants
-
Because people like mandrakk the dark monitor a multiversal threat will rank higher than him imo
“Well, Dark Megaman seemingly can’t be killed unless Megaman’s heart is purified, but I don’t see Jackie doing that.
”
-
In these matches BFRing is a viable solution thus he’s out. And all the better since The Darkness can just torture him in his universe for all eternity.
For more strong manga characters, there is also ZeedMillenniummon, who is also universal level, can destroy the whole world, can manipulate space-time, and he is pretty much immortal, since the one way to kill him is nearly impossible…
@redrum
Thats cool that shes the mother of god. There are also plenty of mothers of gods in various manga.
There is also Omnimon X, who has a sword named All Delete. Whatever the sword slashes gets….deleted/destroyed/erased. Poof. Just like that.
“Thats cool that shes the mother of god. There are also plenty of mothers of gods in various manga.”
-
Do they show their power or is it just a title? Besides that I never said it was the mother of God. I said its simply the Mother also know as the Man of Miracles M.O.M or Mother for short. he is a he and is The Word of God. Doesn’t get more powerful then the Word of God in fiction or Theocracy.
The you have the anit monitor who turns things/people etc etc into antimatter
-
Dr,Strange,Galactus,and the guy with the infiniti gauntlet and then there is lobo not super effecting but takes alot to kill
“There is also Omnimon X, who has a sword named All Delete. Whatever the sword slashes gets….deleted/destroyed/erased. Poof. Just like that.”
-
Meet New Son the master of Kinetic energy. His power his he’s made of pure energy and has total control over all potential and Kinetic energy. He has a sword he swing? How does he swing it if all potential energy is drained from his body leaving him a stature? Or have all the energy in his body explode at once. Gambit is awesome.
Victor from Buso Renkin can drain life force from all living things just by standing near someone.
Apocalymon can DESTROY ALL OF EXISTENCE BY TURNING EVERYTHING INTO DATA. I kid you not.
“Gambit is awsome”
-
second that
Various characters from Saint Seiya can destroy multiple galaxies by WAVING THEIR HAND. And most are immune to telepathy, soul hacks, and even physical abilities.
There is also Millenniummon.
He once cut a dimension in half. With one attack. He can also create pocket dimension, trap his opponents inside, and then destroy said pocket dimensions. Also, he can manipulate the time in said pocket dimension. In fact, just by being born, he twisted an entire world. Also, he claims to have unlimited energy and power.
This is why I hate dumb matches like this. They never end. There needs to be some type of order to this cause every time you mention a character I have a counter then another person has a counter to that and on and on and on.
Unlimited energy vs A person who can make you energy explode = bad
Doesn’t manga have Nintendo? And God–like, THE God?
-
media.npr.org/programs/tmm/2008/02/manga1_200-4dfcac76f3406497443427eb7bdd46acf6ac3dc2-s6-c10.jpg
Another hacked character in NEO from Digimon NEXT. He was made to “re-create” the world, and can “seperate” space and time, and can them manipulate them. Also, he is constantly evolving and getting stronger. In fact, (spoiler warning) in the manga, they couldn’t beat him in the end.
Transformers is tricky, though; they have comics AND manga.
Not that it matters, since Gurren Lagann and Gundam should be enough to defeat Transformers.
Also, Arceus from Pokemon is said to be god-like, and destroyed a meteor that would have possibly destroyed the planet!
“Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo actually the name of a Manga series?
-
By the Flying Spaghetti Monster the Japanese need to sort their shit the fuck out…”
-
No, look it up. It’s the absolute funniest manga/anime I’ve ever seen. It essentially makes fun of all other manga by having the main characters become completely unpredictable and random objects and/or character traits. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (the main character) uses his nose hair (in a style called Fist of the Nose Hair, a direct reference to Fist of the North Star) to attack people. One such opponent was a Canadian TV with boxing gloves.
-
Oh, and it’s absolute Toon-Force. Every single bit of it. One opponent used rice in his attacks, and had appeared to beat Bo-Bo-Bo and his friends. In response, they used a Vegetable Attack, during which they became vegetables, and well, attacked.
-
The sheer Toon Force of it might actually win this fight. It’s seriously on a Bugs Bunny level.
I wouldn’t say bugs bunny level that dude took a planet exploading,or was that daffy? I dont remeber but the toon force of the looney tunes is legendary
-
Agree with ReD slick,this seems like constantly trying to one up each other. “Darkness,hahaha i raise you a Sailor moon.Oh that didn’t work then I raise you this etc etc” which seems like it wouldnt end because so and so cancel so and so out but so and so cancel so and so out etc etc
@redrum
I found someone who can negate The Darkness: Varodurumon, whos feathers emit a holy light called Purge Shine. It not only eradicates any form of darkness, it also destroys anything with evil will.
And you can’t dodge this attack, because it fires AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT, and has enough destructive power to BLOW UP STARS!
@Amm
But….then what else should we do?
“I found someone who can negate The Darkness: Varodurumon, whos feathers emit a holy light called Purge Shine. It not only eradicates any form of darkness, it also destroys anything with evil will.
And you can’t dodge this attack, because it fires AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT, and has enough destructive power to BLOW UP STARS!”
-
1. The Darkness is not evil. It just is. You don’t fault a grizzly bear for mauling someone do you?
-
2. That’s the same power as The Angelus and it still didn’t work and powerscaling makes her as powerful as The Darkness.
-
3. The Darkness and The Angelus along with the Witchblade are for the 5th time united as 1. Thus no weaknesses.
@redrum
Well….
Various characters from this manga called Medaka Box can erase anything from existence with a thought. Even Darkness/Witchblade couldn’t do anything about that!
What else should we do? There is nothing we can do,it is just to broad,, Take Star wars vs Star Trek very broad but it has a stopping point. Where as this encompasses all comics vs all mangas. and each comic and manga has a multitude of Multiverses
