So, here we have a classic battle that will continue as long as both these consoles exist. The Xbox controller up against the controller from PlayStation.
For the sake of this debate, you may include any controller from any of the consoles. So, for the PS lovers, there are three consoles to use and for Microsoft supporters, there are two.
While the ultimate answer is to determine which controller is better, list out why you prefer the one that you do.
Which one is better?

Dual shock, six axis, pressure sensitive, symmetrically placed analog stick, separated d-pad buttons, and just plain ole fits my hands much better PS3 controller. i have no idea why people would like the x-box controller more unless they grew up used to it. now you wanna talk about most innovative for it’s time WORST controller? N64. yeah, lets give another dimension of availability to control movement and NOT make it analog like we already have on it. c-botton right analog stick sucked…..but i still played the hell out of 007 and perfect dark for sure.
PS3 all the way!!!! xbox controller is just to big, cant wrap my hands around it like the PS3′s. same reason why i suck at computers just died 4 times tryin to kill a pinger
-
i also heard the dualshock will be removed in PS4…TT
Xbox personally is too bid and bulky for my hands, although Im a playstation nation guy so I don’t play xbox so…yeh im bias. PS3!
you know for shit’s and giggles, someone with non working x-box and ps controllers should video tape them being smashed together until one busts apart so we know who wins the REAL battle. the one to the death…..
I personally like the ergonomics of the Xbox, but the PS3 one seems more responsive. I only own an Xbox-360 so I don’t really know much about PS3
@Mike
360 is bigger and heavier, my money’s on it
Yeh the PS3 controllers don’t necessarily hold up to well to physical punishment.
media.veryfunnypics.eu/2012/07/funny-picture-the-perfect-xbox-control-her.jpg
I used to love playing with a PS2 controller and hated the original xbox controller. It was too big and I didn’t find it comfortable to play with.
-
But now I have a 360 for a while I prefer the 360 controller to the PS3, I think it is just because I am used to it now, I can’t play on the ps3 at all.
IMO
X-box controller
360 controller. I used PS2 but it was too big. Then again, that was 7. Anyway, Xbox just seems better in my hands.
Thats interesting, because I believe the opposite, maybe it’s because I have big hands but I prefer the ergonomics of the 360 controller much better. I feel like the PS3 controller is just too crammed. Also, I despise the D-pad and the analog sticks on the PS3. The D-pad because I can’t roll my thumb on it like I can on the rounded Xbox 360 D-pad. And then the analog sticks let me push them to far and I feel like I have less control, I feel like sniping on a PS3 controller is impossible, or god mode in unreal tournement.
I’m similar to Mega. When I was younger, I was a grand crusader, the Dualshock my armament, annihilating armies at a time with Battlefronts I and II.
-
But now I’ve just been playing Xbox, so its probably what I’m better at wielding.
I never liked where the analog sticks were on the playstation controller. Ever since the first playstation came out that was the one thing that turned me off to getting the console.
.
The x-box controller just fits better for me.
The xbox controller, it fits my hands perfectly.
In retrospect, the analogs are placed a little strangely. Somehow I made it work, but as I hold one of my old sets, I do admit the placement feels awkward. I dunno if its just from using Xbox for the last few years, but yeah.
You know what, they need to make a controller that allows you to continue using both analog sticks at the same time while you click any buttons like the a, b,x or y buttons simultaneously. so instead of having rb1 and 2 and lb1 and 2 turn them into x, y, a and b. This would allows much more fluidity and if you wanted to play an RTS like halo wars it would be much more manageable.
SNES controller
360 controller kind of fits with my hands. The ps3 controller feels small and a bit to delicate.
All are both superior and inferior to
www.8-bitcentral.com/images/nintendo/n64/controller.jpg
I liked the Playstation 2 controller back in the day. The journeys we had together. Jak and Daxter, Jak 2, Jak 3, and Jak X. Star Wars Battlefront I and II. Ghost Recon. Various Need for Speed games. The Crash Bandicoot games. The Spyro Games. The Ratchet & Clank games. I had some good times with it.
-
As I am older now, and rarely even look at the thing anymore, I play much of the new games on my Xbox. I think it’s mainly because my hands are a lot larger now, and that, while the Playstation one was good for my hands at the time, today, I feel better with the Xbox. I could go back to playing the Playstation controller at any moment, and remember all the secrets to every game I played on it. Every now and then, I’ll pop in one of my old games and play it for a couple hours, just to relive those awesome memories.
-
I think if I got a Playstation 3 instead of an Xbox, I would’ve liked Playstation more today.
I prefer my Playstation 2 controller, only because it STILL works after literally years of being used, while my Xbox controller’s batteries will die within a month or less of putting them in. Other than that, Xbox for it’s fit in my hands.
Xbox 360 controller. Playstation’s controllers are always too small. And they feel cheap, like I’m going to crush it of I get too mad.
Playstation controller most definitely, I grew up playing with it and it just feels the best in my hands.
Since i have a PS3, had a PS2 and liked the PSOne.. I vote for the PS3-Controller.
-
I just intended to add the PS3 Move- and Navigation-Controller… then I remembered with XBOX 360 – Kinect “u are the controller”… hard to beat that…
Grew up on Ps2,moved to 360 then got a Ps3 so hard to say.
-
But if i had to choose one it would be 360,i have grown accustomed to it
The Wii remote……. There, I said it.
Ummm… For me? Mouse and keyboard
The 360 is great, but the OP includes the original bulky XBox controller, so that drags it down.
-
Playstation controller then, it’s always been comfortable to hold.
Two reasons for the X-Box 360 Contoller. Faster reaction because of the posibility of wired ones. Second they feel better in your hand. The PS 3 Controller is too light for me.
Xbox old style and new all the way!
-
Have snapped Dual Shock PS2 and PS3 controllers into two bits by holding them too tightly or putting (read ‘throwing’) them down. Never had that worry with Xbox controllers, infact with the original Xbox’s controller you were pretty damn sure whatever you threw the controller hit would be worse of than the controller.
-
I much prefer the more spaced out layout on the controllers. I always feel that the fingers not doing anything were always cramped up with a Dual Shock controller.
I dont know why people are saying the x-box controller is way too big, yes its kinda big but i feel its fits perfectly. i think it was made to fit a human hand.
Ps3 controller feels cheap and fragile and way too light.
I always preferred the Playstation controllers, but it depends on the games. The Xbox controller is absolutely perfect for shooters for me, while I prefer the PS controller for general platforming and such. I absolutely love the way the PS3 triggers feel. There’s just something satisfying about tapping or holding them down in the middle of a game. Then there’s also how I don’t have to physically change the batteries when the charge runs out.
360 all the way. It actually is curved in a way that fits a hand easily, and not cramped like the PS3 controller. Also, I like that the 360 “trigger-button” actually feels like… you know, a trigger. And personally, I just find its design nicer looking.
for me personally i like xbox controller better for shooting games thanks to its size and triggers, while i like ps controllers for fighting games since every thing is simple and evenly placed
@the_man
exactly
Ok, everyone’s choice so far is based on opinion, but like mike said in the first post, the PS3 controller is the superior controller.
“six axis, pressure sensitive, symmetrically placed analog stick, separated d-pad buttons, ”
Also, the PS3 controller doesn’t require batteries unlike 360 controllers.
Forgot to mention that you can buy PS3 controllers with the analog setup of the 360. And the reason that MLG uses PS3 for systems, is that you can buy PS3 controllers that have interchangeable analog sticks and d-pads. That makes it convenient so that 360 players can play with their familiar format on the same team as PS3 players.
There are wired 360 controllers and this seems like a Opinion based “Battle”
@Amm0vamp1r3
Wired controller, or wireless with batteries vs wireless rechargeable…
Considering my Ps3 controller just broke,I will go with Choice number 1. But thats just me
PS2 Controllers are nice and simple, very even and orderly, and are durable, though that’s just my opinion. I own a PS2 only though, so my only experience using the Xbox is at friend’s houses, where I don’t like it. Plus PS2 has those see-through light-up controllers, which are totally awesome.
“Considering my Ps3 controller just broke,I will go with Choice number 1. But thats just me”
-
What does that mean in regards to this thread? All controllers are susceptible to breaking. That gives no advantage or disadvantage to either controller.
You asked me a question so i answered it.
-
None of my Xbox controllers has ever broken
Xbox controller, because freaking X, O, Square, and Triangle. I grew up on a Gamecube, so I don’t know what I’m playing with the PS3.
“You asked me a question so i answered it.
-
None of my Xbox controllers has ever broken”
-
I never asked you a question….
My bad post #38 was misconstrued as a question
xbox controller vs playstation controller?
screw both i take the N64 controler
why? was the first one with an analog stick
ps just added 2 shoulderbuttons … the rest is rather known from the good old snes controller .. nintendo still rules…
-
but since you want me to take one of those 2 i go with xbox because for me personaly it lies better in the hand
I’ve owned/own and PlayStation, PlayStation 2, XBOX, XBOX 360, and PS3.
For the current gen, I’d go with PlayStation’s controller. Better control spacing, six axis, internal rechargeable power source. The 360′s controls feel really tight and after long hours of gaming my hands do feel cramped up. Also, I’m not a fan of the sideways bumper buttons.
In the previous gen I take the XBOX’s ‘duke’ controller. It was big and clunky, but once I got used to it it was the balls! I loved the button placement, especially the black and white buttons. Even after the ‘s’ came out I stuck to my guns. Tons of people rip this controller, but I still use mine whenever I can.
–
Overall I go Playstation though. XBOX has far better durability, but for me that is the only advantage. My 360 and Playstation controllers both get gunked up about the same. I think when it comes down to it though PlayStation found a system that is super piratical and for the most part stuck to their guns. XBOX seems like they are still refining theirs.

I still thank God this shit never happened:

Not really game changing but I like the 360′s triggers when play shooters. It’s the feeling of pulling a trigger without the likely dangers of a property damage from putting a firearm in my hands.
===
Regarding the old xbox controller, I have trouble recalling how I ever successfully played games with the larger one. What was the purpose of that rounded bottom?

PS3 FTW
ps3 controller is for girly hands.
Xbox has
1) real triggers
2) better analog placement
3) better analog nubs (concave)
the D-pads are terrible on both, and unusable for fighters imo. Sixaxis is a gimmick – name one game that uses it well…
Some would say that the xbox is for the hardcore if so xbox users should feel proud that they’re using such a complicated device
“ps3 controller is for girly hands.”
-so…same logic that computer mouses should be softball sized? lol
-
-
“1) real triggers”
-neither are real triggers. if it’s for FPS you are talking about realism then ps3 has that more than x-box. x-box triggers don’t have an activation point you can feel plus the pressure sensitive nature.
-
-
“2) better analog placement”
-you like your hands to control multiple axis from a staggered grasp instead of symmetrical?
-
-
“3) better analog nubs (concave)”
-the only reason i can see for this to be a positive is if you lose your grip on them with sweaty thumbs. playing too long of stretches of time me thinks you are.
-
-
“the D-pads are terrible on both, and unusable for fighters imo. Sixaxis is a gimmick – name one game that uses it well…”
-the d-pad on the ps controllers makes it perfect for button combo games like tekken, street fighter, and the like. having separation of the buttons makes it far easier to not be slightly off on an angle when pushing up, down, left, or right, and easy to get the in between angles by hitting two buttons simultaneously.
-six axis supported games 121 by this list, with one i just glanced as being game of the year in some magazines. www.giantbomb.com/sixaxis-support/92-5310/games/
-
-
not really being confrontational, just looking to make the thread a little more interesting if it was more of an “intense” debate.
I’m a big guy, I can palm a basketball. I use the Xbox controller because it is so much bigger, but sometimes even it feels too small.
“ps3 controller is for girly hands.

2) better analog placement

Real triggers? I wasn’t aware that the PS3 controller had fake triggers.
-
“better analog placement”
-
Opinion. Also as I said, there are PS3 controllers with interchangeable d-pads and analog sticks, so you can have the setup similar to an X-box’s if you want. So no real advantage to x-box here.
-
“analog nubs”
-
Why is concave an advantage? Doesn’t really have an effect on me. Recharging instead of buying batteries certainly does though…
I can only assume most of you have tiny-girl hands.
-
I use both more or less every week, and I have to say the Xbox is more comfortable to me. The PS controller looks better, and has that whole nostalgia thing going for it, but the Xbox one works just as well and (Again, personal opinion) feels better in the hands.
Going on ergonomics, I prefer the PS controller (I got small hands), but as far as function goes, I would have to say x-box for me. The thing that really ticked me off about the PS controllers is those stupid analog sticks that you had to push down on like it was a button! Thank you x-box for NOT doing that! Anyways, even with small hands, The x-box controller feels almost as comfortable to me as a PS controller.

OFF TOPIC ALERT:
-
GAME CUBE CONTROLLER FTW!!!!!!!!!
My penis is the best controller out there, it feels better in my hands than any controller ever could.
-
On a serious note, Gen. 6 has my Sony Vote, Gen. 7 has my Microsoft Vote, simply because the 360 controller is a better one in my opinion.
-
Also, this largely comes down to an opinion-based debate that won’t really get anywhere, so I say we go with the idea of smashing two controllers together continuously and see what survives.
-
Otherwise, my penis for the FPA. Or the FAP. Whichever.
…”my comment is awaiting moderation”…?
@ Dr. Doctor
-
Omigosh, not again…WHY?!
Damn, this is a first. I actually agree with Mike on this one…I second every thing he has said on this post thus far. It’s precisely why I prefer the PS3 controller – granted that I only played Xbox360 once, so it might be a matter of getting used to it, however, first impressions last the longest.
.
So, PS3 for sure.
…”my comment is awaiting moderation”…?
-
If it has more than 5 links it needs moderation.
@ egronomics – the PS3 controller doesn’t require you to “claw” for any game because the buttons are close enough to the stick that you can quickly take a thumb off and tap them. Also, PS3 controller doesn’t give you carpal tunnel.
The PS3 controller was designed for gamers. The 360 controller was designed for casuals. Take that how you will. Being a gamer myself, I prefer the PS3 controller.
The dualshock hasn’t seen any substantial reworks in its 15 years because its design was excellent from the get-go.
It makes no sense to have an analog stick on the top right of controller, so i give it to sony
“@ Dr. Doctor

Omigosh, not again…WHY?!”
Face it, my penis is the best thing since sliced bread.
-
“…”my comment is awaiting moderation”…?
-
If it has more than 5 links it needs moderation.”
It had no links, though…
I think any post with the word “penis” in it needs moderation.
Suspicion confirmed. Referring to the phallic muscle between a male’s legs by its common name brings about the necessity for post moderation.
stop it with your damn penis ok!!!!!
Well, shit…
-
Can we say cock?
Evidently…
“Well, shit…
-
Can we say cock?”
Odd that we can say cock but not the real name of the muscle.
I’m reasonably sure that it’s not a muscle, it’s an organ…
It seems you are right, and my anatomical education fails me.
You’re a terrible Doctor lol
Do they still make games that involve use of the sixaxis anymore or was that feature just forgotten?
===
“You’re a terrible Doctor lol”
-
I believe his PhD is in debatetology, he doesn’t need to know what a penis is.
I feel like there should be a list of what causes the “awaiting moderation” thing. What about words like shit, does that trigger it?
Nope. So swears are ok but the mention of the P word for meat stick sets it off? I’m not sure what to make of this confusing backwards discovery.
Great… all the guys can talk about is dicks >.<
“Great… all the guys can talk about is dicks >.<"

We're talking about how we can't say the proper word for it!
btw can we say Vagina?
Apparently…
For the record, it depends what kinda games I play. The 360 controllers Triggers are better for racing games. But the PS3 game for most other games.
__
The fact that I only have a PS3 doesn’t matter too much, as I use a 360 pad to play games on my PC ^^.
__
Personally I prefer the PS3 pad ^^
__
Does it matter if you can’t say the P word?
__
“Face it, my penis is the best thing since sliced bread.”
Only if I can slice it multiple times ^^
xD My post is awaiting moderation… because I was answering something Doc Doc said xD
__
Completely forgot it had the P word in it xD Damn you Doc Doc!
“I’m reasonably sure that it’s not a muscle, it’s an organ…”

Actually, it is mostly muscle and blood vessels. Congrats on failing Health Class.
-
Still like the 360 controller better. It curves to the hand, and the extra size reduces cramped-ness. The more pronounced A, X, Y, and B buttons also are nice. The curved trigger is also a nice touch. Though if one thing is for sure, the PS D-Pad is much better, though I tend not to use the D-Pad much.
Since my other comment got flagged for moderation. (and referenced wikipedia)

penis, the copulatory organ of the male of higher vertebrates that in mammals usually also provides the channel by which urine leaves the body.
Goddammit, I forgot to edit out the proper word for fuckstick…

There’s a response coming (actually two) and I don’t feel like typing it out again.
“Actually, it is mostly muscle and blood vessels. Congrats on failing Health Class.”

No, it’s an organ.
Are you guys *really* having this conversation?
“Are you guys *really* having this conversation?”

Factpile: Where everything is debatable.
Wtf happened in this thread xD
I’ve grown more accustomed to the Xbox, but I haven’t really given ps3 a fair go.
“Are you guys *really* having this conversation?”

Yeah… Why wouldn’t we be?

Someone is wrong on the internet…
GET BACK ON THE GOD DAMN TOPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I grew up on the Playstation, so I have an obvious bias. I DID have biweekly access to an Xbox (yay divorce!), but I never was able to perform well in the games we played. Then the 7th gen came. I bought a ps3, my brother an Xbox360. We both had Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I played for several days in game, on PS3, fairly well. I believe my K/D was slightly above 1, after starting off in the .4′s. I tried the game on my brother’s console after I broke mine (Turns out leaving your console on for months at a time, with a single disk in, is bad.), and I was atrocious. I mean 2/16 K/D was my average. So I find the squareness and symmetry of the Daulshocks to my liking.
An off-topic thread derailment about the nature of Penises that wasn’t caused by Teal? Sons, I am dissapoint.
so am i
