Nothing was really specified about this match, but I still think this can be a good fight.
FactPile has given me a good estimate of Kratos’ abilities.
But I know nothing about the other guy.
I’m going to say Belmont just because he looks pretty badass.
let me specify two battles: 1 lords of shadow gabriel(human)
battle 2: Dracula gabriel (have to wait for the game to come out)
And i say gabriel even post Dracula could take gabriel, ill gets some feats.
what can Gabriel as a human do?
Damn it… I wanted to do a Sanguinus(40k) vs Kratos.
I love the belmonts, but I haven’t played a castlevania game since the SNES. They never really struck me as being able to contend with a guy like Kratos, however I freely admit to not knowing a damn thing about Gabriel. I look forward to seeing how this match progresses.
Gabriel beats the Lycan Darklord
Gabriel vs The vampire darklord
Oh yea and thanks hitman for posting it,
The Crytal Demon
Im gonna say kratos just because he is BADASS
and plus i dont see Belmont standing much a chance without blood will this fight take place somewhere crowded?
Ryu hayabusa solos.
I’m(despite my dislike of him) going to place my intial bet on Kratos due to his strength.
Well holy shit…Kratos gets brutally stomped by Dracul-Gabriel. Human Gabriel may have a chance, but Kratos usually has a lot more *punch* in his attacks, which is ironic because Gabriel physically punches a lot more than Kratos does in combat.
In terms of combat style, Kratos relies more on brute force attacks and in plowing down his opponents. Gabriel strictly focuses on finding the right time to block, which more than often means making even the biggest opponents stagger and leaving him bigger openings to exploit. Judging from the variety of QTE in the first LoS, Gabriel also knows how to gauge attacks that he can’t block, and uses whatever he has to their limits. He’s no slouch when it comes to strength and endurance either, but he’s not as strong as Kratos. Although, just from his cutscenes, looks like the LoS team has a better grasp of physics than the GoW team, haha. I mean just look at the end of the Carmilla boss fight. The wind from Gabriel stabbing Carmilla through the chest was enough to damage the concrete floor behind her.
I’m thinking that off the bat, Gabriel’s advantages come from the fact that the cyclone boots don’t really require any buildup for use, and that he has the divine shield ability from combining holy water with Light Magic. Another bonus with Light Magic is that every hit landed steals life force from the enemy and gives it to Gabriel. Ultimate Light is him pretty much spinning with the whip at high speeds and healing all along with it. Shadow Magic doubles damage dealt to enemies, and Ultimate Light is him bullrushing his enemies with his speed.
Gabriel has also shown that he can withstand strikes from Satan, whom can cause earthquakes by slamming his staff from the ground.
46 seconds in the video, Gabriel shows that he can sustain full flight with the Seraph Wings. If he catches Kratos in an aerial combo, it might be harder for Kratos to move around, seeing as the Icarus Wings can only glide, and Gabriel has full aerial maneuverability.
The Combat Cross also has a seemingly longer reach than the Blades of Exile:
“Shadow Magic doubles damage dealt to enemies, and Ultimate Light is him bullrushing his enemies with his speed.”
Edit: Ultimate Shadow is him bullrushing his enemies with his speed.
well Gabriel looks damned impressive.
More moves and combos:
He may need more matches
Since Dracul in the second part of the match, what the hell. This is him at his absolute weakest.
LoS2 will have him doing these:

Second video is pure gameplay btw.
“In terms of combat style, Kratos relies more on brute force attacks and in plowing down his opponents.”
Actually both in the novel and in games Kratos has shown a bit more then brute force.
One of his major features is using the shield to block and counter attack.
Against Centuars he would use thier inability to turn around agianst them.
Against cyclops(si?) he would go for lowblows, slashing at the legs calfs to stumble them.
Agianst soldiers with magic shields he manuvered behind them.
When he was getting burned he made use of the enemies armor.
When figthing Herc, he didn’t try to out muscle him. Instead he made use of striking his head and getting some room to push him back.
He’s also pretty good archer.
“Actually both in the novel and in games Kratos has shown a bit more then brute force.”
My mistake then. Gabriel’s no slouch when it comes to using his environment either. With Carmilla, once she was damaged enough and trying to fly away, Gabriel caught on to her and stabbed her using a tower, and killed Cornell using his own hammer against him. Against the Evil Butcher, it’s actually kinda funny that he did this:
He’s pretty good when it comes to taking opportunities and using what’s in the environment to his advantage. He’s kind of a mix between the more direct hack and slash characters and Link with his tendency to check for openings and use what’s in the environment.
Forgot about the low-level telekinesis. I don’t know how it’ll help at the moment, but it should be noted.
He does this at other puzzles as well.
kratos has survived greater mindfucks then the ones belmont bring to the table
I’m leaning towards Belmot right now. Kratos appears to have an advantage in strength, but Belmont appears to have an advantage in speed and still has the capability to hurt Kratos.
Ok im back, good to see gabriel hasnt gone un represented.
I think one of Gabriels helps in this fight in this fight is his versitile weapons, and skills
Fire dagger,A wave of daggers, the distraction fairys and light bomb fairys, the crystal and the holy water, and light shield
Fairies would count as outside help unfortunately. They’re sentient creatures after all. Dark Crystals are fair game though:
Fairys count as outside help, well i can see that,if link the fairy guy doesnt get them gabriel shouldnt either.
I dont think the fight with the forgotten one has been posted so i will find it.
Dark Gauntlet charged punch:
Charged punch in a cutscene:
“I wanted to do a Sanguinus(40k) vs Kratos.”
Sanguinius stomps Kratos handily
But I’m sort of leaning toward Kratos due to his strength and probably his defensive magics/items
Does Belmont have any defense against Kratos’s soul-stealing?
Claws of Hades can only steal souls from people if their too tired or weakened to fight back, so Kratos would have to beat Gabriel to that point before he soul reaps Gabe
“Does Belmont have any defense against Kratos’s soul-stealing?”
Kratos needs to weaken him enough for the Claws of Hades to work. Besides that, Gabriel has the holy water flasks, which are effective against spirits, vampires, etc and which also has explosive effects. That should take care of the soul summons. If he combines his holy water with Light Magic, he gets the divine shield, which lasts for quite a bit.
While that’s up, he retains full maneuverability. Flapping his wings while Light Magic blinds his enemies, and so does Holy Cross, which damages enemies while also blinding them.
Flapping his wings with Shadow Magic causes an explosion and Shadow Flames causes a flame vortex in front of Gabriel.
Dammit, got ninja’d. That’s it, I’m going back to reading for now.
Aha, I got you again Observer!
It’s only fair after all the times I got you in Pit vs. Kratos.
Seems like Gabriel can really pack a punch. This looks to be a great match!
This is going to be a good fight, also I need to get this game.
Gabriel isnt lacking in strength,
Yeah…watching the Lycan Lord fight since I only got home a little while ago….and I’m sorry but I don’t care how strong Kratos is dat whip is going to flay his pale ass.
Fights his own little pyramid head, cthulu type guy
can I just say, thank you for introducing me to this character. This will be an epic game to have.
Hey man i owed you one,you introduced me to dresden, and yes this game is really good.
Were Gendrons to defend kratos,i dont think any one is really defending him.
You’re definitely in for a treat. Gabriel is probably one of the most well-developed characters in hack and slash in a while. He’s not just in it for revenge, and his descent is incredibly tragic for what it is.
I’m glad your enjoying the Dresden Files then. I’m planning on getting it for Christmas now.
Don’t wish Gendrons on this match, read Kratos vs Dresden and you’ll see the horror of what arguing against him is. He argued Dresden was incapable of being frozen or burned.
Sorry, dont want to curse the match, because i just rememberd he tries to bring real world logic into things.
Kratos was incapable* I meant.
but yeah it’s more that he tries to compare the game to the actual myths.
Pan the Silver Warrior
Olrox the general of the vampire army
“Kratos gets brutally stomped by Dracul-Gabriel.”
Same can happen other way if we use God Kratos. Going with Kratos for now .
course hellboy is almost just as bad as Gendrons.
did you watch any of the videos or are you just assuming.
on that note though, are we just assuming current incarnation of Kratos Amm0 which is GoW 3 and if so what equipment does he have, end of game where only the BoO is intact or all the in game gear?
Why would we use god kratos,Dracul Gabriel is his current incarnation, while GoW 3 is kratos current incarnation. So until we see what gabriel brings, all we can do is speculate. But going by what we have been shown so far of him,he may beat kratos handily
Care to give a reason why you are going with kratos?
He can get all his equipment for this, dont want to leave him in the rain, with out an umbrella
“Same can happen other way if we use God Kratos.”
Oh, you mean the guy who has barely any feats of his own and who still loses handily to someone who can cut him in half with but a swipe of his hand? Yeah…
“He can get all his equipment for this, dont want to leave him in the rain, with out an umbrella”
Composite Kratos would likely be better suited against Dracul but possibly overkill for human Gabriel.
Goddammit ammo you fucking cursed your match lol. not quite gendrons but close enough.
What’s the link to the Dresden books. Head you can read then online. Negative zero gave it to me but I lost it
so full GoW 3 gear correct?
Yea full GoW3 gear.
Primus, yea i forgot about the kratos curse lol
it only goes to Changes though you may need to find another source for Ghost Story and Cold Days
“Primus, yea i forgot about the kratos curse lol”
The Gendrons Effect :argh
at worst it ends up like his fight against Kratos and Gabriel gets the FP award anyway. Gabirel may not be quite as strong as Kratos but hes way faster and that whip moves faster than Kratos chain weapons.
Brauner the younger brother of Olrox
“that whip moves faster than Kratos chain weapons.”
Speaking of which, anyone know how much force is required to easily crack open several layers of muscle and bone? Gabriel’s done that to quite a number of enemies and bosses.
I..don’t know would have to look it up.
Also who is your Gravatar?
back on topic I’m betting that the whip will be able to outmaneuver Kratos defenses and weapons to hit the squishy mortal unarmored majority of Kratos.
after his turn to darkness I assume?
Yea thats in reverie or resurrection after he absorbs power from the forgotten one.
Would kratos be effected by holy water?
Also I meant to specify that it’s with the whip that Gabriel does that, though he snaps bones with other moves as well, like when he crushes Mandragora skulls and crushes the heads of Creeping Corpses.
What Amm0 said. Note that the Forgotten One is the sovereign of the elemental plane of darkness, and absorbing his powers just activated Gabriel’s vampirism. Won’t spoil any of the details.
“Would kratos be effected by holy water?”
Not as adversely as vampires or imps. Unlike Classic CV holy water, which burns anything evil, LoS holy water works differently. It should still knock Kratos back, since it’s explosive and generates flames when detonated.
That makes sense i ask because i found this:
“The Combat Cross, also known as the Vampire Killer is a multifunctional weapon invented by Rinaldo Gandolfi. Gabriel upgrades his combat cross throughout his journey. It consists of an iron crucifix with a retractable chain quenched with Holy Water hidden inside the main body of the weapon”
Gabriel Belmont so badass the only way for him to get a challenge was to turn into Dracula himself so he could fight worthy opponents.
honestly from what I’ve seen Gabriel whips Kratos
“because i just rememberd he tries to bring real world logic into things.”
hurr durr burning calories from running supar fast!!!11!!!!
cool, mainly asked because I was thinking of getting a new Gabriel avatar but didn’t want to duplicate someone elses.
Oh and is it just me, or does Gabriel looks semi like Genesis?
“Oh and is it just me, or does Gabriel looks semi like Genesis?”
@NKB at #74
Except somewhat older-ish, so to speak. :?’
Anywho the way I see it, Human Gabriel vs Kratos as of either GoW2 or 3 could be interesting, but Dracula-ified Gabriel would require Composite Armory!-Kratos for it to be interesting, right?
Okay so does anyone want to prove that Kratos doesn’t have the flesh stripped from his bones? Anyone whatsoever with common sense want to defend Kratos?
Stealth? You want to try and make a sensible defense, you were the only sensible Kratos debater early on in his match against Dresden before you decided to switch. Any arguments for Kratos?
Have I mentioned that some of Gabriel’s attacks tend to liquefy lesser foes?
Could just be the varying application of physics from either developers, but as strong as Kratos is, I’ve never seen him apply enough force to liquefy any of his opponents. Come to think of it, his greatest strength feats are lifting feats rather than striking aren’t they?
I always thought the explosion of the enemies was the work between gabriel and the anti freak weapons he has, like how if you keep a vampire in the sun long enough the explode in a bloody mess.
Yea kratos has no people defending him, hellboy some what tried(did post any reason just said something and left)
It depends on the enemy and the weapon used against it. Werewolves for example, explode into a bloody mess if hit with a silver dagger due to their crippling weakness to silver. Lesser vampires die if they spend too much time in the sunlight. Ghouls just explode if Gabriel sticks the cross inside them. Those are the types of attacks that exploit their weakness. Gabriel grabbing a small troll and smashing it to the ground with enough force to liquefy it though, is something completely different. So is him whipping a werewolf with enough force to not just pass through layers of flesh, but liquefy it is also something that doesn’t exploit the beast’s weakness. It’s completely possible to kill a werewolf without turning it into a bloody stain, but it’s clear that some attacks produce that result due to application of force.
“Stealth? You want to try and make a sensible defense, you were the only sensible Kratos debater early on in his match against Dresden before you decided to switch”
I might try and play devils advocate later on, but since I’ve got work soon, yeah
I dont know anything about Kratos other than he poked a cyclops in the eye. Would he be a good challenger vs Sanguinus (40k)?
“I dont know anything about Kratos other than he poked a cyclops in the eye. Would he be a good challenger vs Sanguinus (40k)?”
Since Sanguinius can physically mountain bust and fly, Kratos would be stomped, it would be similar to Kratos vs Skarbrand (that match exists here)
And while it’s a bad idea to do the A>B>C thing, Sanguinius curbstomped Sephiroth in his their match and Sephiroth defeated Kratos here so…. yeah
Bah! I can’t find any match vs Sanguinus.. everyone is either too powerful or too weak. Primarchs are a tough cookie to pair up.
I’d like to think the A>B>C thing would have validity when we’re talking about who has a brutal death coming to them, who deserves it or who even seems likely to die 1st that it would have applied.
Alas in any case, when I’m giving positive kudos where its due, its positive kudos that are due, so your idea of Sol Badguy vs Sanguinius would be a fun sight to see, that’s for sure.
In terms of worthy adversary likelihood for Sanguinius, it may go like this:
Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear>>>>Sephiroth>>>>Kratos
At least in terms of odds of providing the Blood Angels’ Primarch a worthy fight, or at least in terms of not getting castrated in the opening few seconds.
In any case, Sol better be at 100% Maximum Power, otherwise the matter would make no sense.
Since there is not a lot of info. for Kratos I guess I can tell help him out.
• Intelligence: Kratos may look like a brute but he is not stupid. As a Captain for is homeland Sparta (& at a young age) he already had some fair share of war stategies. He knew he can’t handle Olympus by himself so he used the titan to distract the Olympians.
• Strength: I don’t know about this guy who can lift mountains, but if Kratos can survive being plummed by Altas (he can lift the world) then he can survive a mountain lifting enemy. He can also best Hercules on a fight.
• Speed: He is already pretty quick for a guy that big. But in case he needs to he can use the boots of hermes.
• Durability: Is what makes Kratos.. well Kratos. As a Demi-God he can take on what can kill a human. In the Game he got stabbed by the Blades of Olympus, Survive suicide jumping off a massive cliff, took out the Titans and the Gods, and most of these feats are done without having to be a god.
welcome to the site. Always good to see new blood.
Power wise the gods Kratos fought aren’t really that impressive, god of war gods=/=other franchises gods. So taking them out doesn’t necessarily equate to much.
I don’t remember perfectly which Kratos fight but in at least one of his more recent ones…I think one of the ones after his loss to Harry Dresden…the Atlas feat was called into major question. It’s been a while since I’ve read them though so may need to go find that.
As for his suicide attempt that doesn’t really count since the gods saved him.
I apologise for my previous comment (bad english). I had to do it on my iphone because my computer is down. Now I am using my PS3.
Anyways back to Kratos.
-Blades of Exile: A fire-based blades and chains made from the remains of the Blade of Athena.
-Bow of Apollo: Shoots unlimited supplies of magic fire arrows. He is an exellent archer, he don’t really miss often.
-Claws of Hades: Like the the blades of exile, but with hooks. Mainly use for hooking the enemy’s soul and ripping it out, but they have to be weakened first to make it work. He can still use it to reel enemies closer.
-Blades of Olympus: The only Holy-Based weapon in the game. It can kill a titan or a god. Can fire blue energy waves. 5ft long and badass.
-Nemean Cestus: Powerful weapon that is taking from Hercules himself. It can send out shockwaves and stun foes.
-Golden Fleece: Blocks projectiles, magic attacks, and the best of all; The Blade of Olympus itself.
-Boots of Hermes: Gives superhuman speed.
-Icarus Wings: Ability of flight and glide. Gives him more mobility in the air.
I was just trying to help out Kratos since the majority is helping out Belmont. Sorry for the misinformation about Kratos, I will make a better info next time.
I’ll go search Harry Dresden vs Kratos and see.
I rhink the argument was more Kratos vs Pit or Kratos vs Akuma
One question since Gabriel Belmont is Dracul-Belmont in the current incarnation. Does that make him weak against holy-based attacks. Is Castlevania vampires immune or weak against holy? After seeing the videos up there Gabriel is no joke, he is quick, smarts, and cooled during battle. As a human he is pretty powerful. Remember this that Gabriel specialized in killing Vampires, Lycans, and all those guys in the game. I never played the game but this could be his first time going against a brutal god-slayer with similar skills. Then again this is Kratos first time going against a vampire. Especially a super vampire that is specialized in magic.
Welcome to the site Chaos. Interesting stance you’re taking, and I’m glad to see that Kratos is getting some competent support for the first time in a long while. There may be some information that’s lacking, but at the very least you’re not blowing anything of Kratos out of proportion.
“The only Holy-Based weapon in the game.”
The Blade of Olympus is different in that it is divine, but not holy. There’s a difference between the two. Holy implies that it destroys evil like the Vampire Killer or the Master Sword, but divine implies that it is wielded or created by a god. Kratos has no holy weapons whatsoever, but he has a lot of divine weapons and artifacts.
Boots of Hermes actually got quantified on the site as 41 mph by Proto-Mind. I think it was on the last 10 pages of Pit vs. Kratos. I apologize if it’s not specific enough. To say that debate was a long one would be an understatement.
Would anyone agree that regardless of Kratos’ lifting feats, he has less in the way of effective application of force as Gabriel? I mean Gabriel often takes chunks out of his enemies and can turn lesser enemies into paste literally by just hitting them hard enough. Game mechanics aside on the lesser foes, that is still layers upon layers of flesh and bone that he smashes on the ground or liquefies with his whip. I’d imagine that if he was fighting larger foes, his heavier strikes would be ripping chunks out of them at a time.
I think Aelfinn said something about this in Dresden vs. Kratos, where Kratos’ tremendous lifting strength could have something to do with his powerful legs rather than his arms. With his arms, we see him struggle all the time with things, but with his legs, we see him lift all sorts of crazy stuff, which of course includes him tipping over that gazebo in GoW2 and lifting Cronos’ hand.
Punting the crystal though…not so much Kratos’ effort as it was the fact that it was being pulled down by Cronos having a frickin mountain strapped onto his back. All Kratos did was redirect the crystal so that the sharp end would hit Cronos.
The OP stated that this would be GoW3 Kratos going against human Gabriel, hence why we’re posting human feats for now. Round 2 will consist of Dracul against Kratos…but seeing as LoS2 hasn’t come out yet, we can’t really draw feats.
“I never played the game but this could be his first time going against a brutal god-slayer with similar skills”
I wouldn’t say that. He’s already fought against several enemies that were far stronger than him physically, and he was able to beat them using a mix of pressure points, tipping them off balance, and exploiting openings in combat. He’s also battled against enemies like the Silver Warrior who used chain blades against him including his own Light and Shadow Magic.
First of all, welcome to FactPile. I hope you’ll stick around. Things can get heated sometimes, but this really only occurs when arguments have been rebutted, but they’re still being presented. If there is a new argument that no one has heard before, I’m sure it will be welcomed with open minds.
Just so you know, there aren’t any spaces between paragraphs, so things like -, or = are used to separate paragraphs so they’re not a wall of text. Oh, and people tend to put quotations around the words of those whom they are quoting. Now, to address your points.
“Since there is not a lot of info. for Kratos I guess I can tell help him out.”
There is some common knowledge among FactPilers, but not so much about Gabriel Belmont, which is probably why more attention is on him.
“• Intelligence: Kratos may look like a brute but he is not stupid. As a Captain for is homeland Sparta (& at a young age) he already had some fair share of war stategies. He knew he can’t handle Olympus by himself so he used the titan to distract the Olympians.”
Intelligence is difficult to quantify for just about any fictional character. IQ may be noted for certain characters like Snake or Eggman, but some like to differentiate the levels of intelligence. In this case, you could say Kratos is a strategist/tactician. Most fighters have a certain degree of this.
“• Strength: I don’t know about this guy who can lift mountains, but if Kratos can survive being plummed by Altas (he can lift the world) then he can survive a mountain lifting enemy. He can also best Hercules on a fight.”
Strength is one of Kratos’ greatest feats. It would be very difficult for a lot of characters pitted against Kratos to be physically stronger than him. For Gabriel, I came up with a calculation of 448.87 tons of strength, but this was because the slab of stone dropped and he had to hold it up. He did struggle, however.
Kratos’ strength is calculated at 133,482,364,000 lbs., or 66,741,182 tons. His striking strength is much greater, and while most people at FP like to calculate these in TNT equivalents, I’d like to present something different. Kratos’ striking strength would be below 6.5 on a Richter scale. To put this in perspective . . .
“Can be damaging/destructive in populated areas in regions of any size. Damage to many to all buildings; poorly designed structures incur moderate to severe damage. Earthquake-resistant structures survive with slight to moderate damage.
Most likely felt in wider areas; likely to be hundreds of miles/kilometers from the epicenter. Can be damaging of any level further from the epicenter. Strong to violent shaking in epicentral area. Death toll between none and 25,000.”
And since StealthRanger has been kind to present this in a TNT equivalent, if this was a bomb instead, you would end up with something like this: www.nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/ Just type in 72.42 in the box that says “2. Enter a yield (in kilotons):” You’ll get to see what the explosion would be like. I doubt a punch from Kratos will create a fireball and thermal energy, however.
“• Speed: He is already pretty quick for a guy that big. But in case he needs to he can use the boots of hermes.”
There is a scene in one of the GoW games where Kratos is chasing Hermes. Hermes runs across a rope in 6 seconds. If we took that distance to be equal to a football field, this would mean Hermes ran 40.9 mph. So we can only really assume Kratos can run that fast with the Boots of Hermes.
“• Durability: Is what makes Kratos.. well Kratos. As a Demi-God he can take on what can kill a human. In the Game he got stabbed by the Blades of Olympus, Survive suicide jumping off a massive cliff, took out the Titans and the Gods, and most of these feats are done without having to be a god.”
I’m not all too familiar with Kratos’ durability. I know Dr Doctor made some calculations for Kratos being blasted from a volcano, and that ended up being like 0.5 tons of TNT. Anyway, I am off.
It’s always good to have people fixing mistake (especially mine). So all the information you guys got are all in here. I am amazed you guys calculated his speed and strength.
“Kratos being blasted from a volcano, and that ended up being like 0.5 tons of TNT.”
That is about 1000 pounds of instant pressure hitting right at him. A normal human being can only survive a blast of 20-40 psi of sudden pressure. Here is the crazy thing, a sudden 5 psi can create 150mph wind and 20 psi can create 470 mph. With 800-1000 psi Kratos must be flying.
Researching is the best. Here is the website about psi.
The article is by Esther Inglis-Arkell. The work is by him.
Welcome. You have a great attitude and welcome to the pile! Research is always the best. Debate in this manner, be aware that you’re not infallible, and be respectful and you’ll fit in very well. (you’re already doing all these things)
Glad to join you guys. I will try to be respectful and informative as I can.
