The Walking Dead Vs Revolution

The Walking Dead Vs Revolution

Here we have a double debut for both franchises on FactPile. The Walking Dead focuses on a zomblie apocalypse and how the survivors deal with it, while Revolution is a post-apocalyptic story set in a world where all technology has blacked out.

For this debate, here are the scenarios to look at:

1.) What “world” would you want to live in?
2.) Who has the most amount of hope that civilization can be rebuilt in their world?
3.) Which group would you want to be a part of?
4.) Which series is better?

Never heard of Revolution so I can’t really say much for it. But I think I would rather live in a world where tech has gone than one with zombies in it, unless i have a good group and a safe place away from zombies then I would go with Walking Dead.

It might be a slow pace to get back to where they were but I think Revloution has a better chance than Walking Dead.

Haven’t seen Revolution so have to say Walking Dead.

    Refer to answer 3.

    Walking dead on all.

  3. crazyemu October 31, 2012 at 8:01 am -      #3

    1) Revolution. the revolution world has some ‘humanity’ left. In the walking dead world there are zombies, feral humans and cannibals everywhere.
    2) Revolution. everyone in the walking dead world everyone is infected, they just have to die to become walkers. there is still hope in the revolution world however.
    3) Revolution. I,d rather by shot or stabbed the eaten alive.
    4) The Walking Dead. far more thrilling than Revolution.

Revolution wins out in all but the last, I’d rather be in a techless world where there’s hope shit will get back to normal than in a Zombie Apocalypse if I have the option.

    1. Walking Dead, living in a zombie-infested world is my dream-life; I wonder if endless killing would ever get boring?
    2. Haven’t seen Revolution but probably that, the “settlement” in the recent Walking Dead episode aint exactly a nice place when you see it from the point of the viewer like we do.
    3. Walking Dead
    4. Can’t comment, having not seen Revolution.

I like the Walking Dead more, but I’d rather live in Revolution’s world. The world seems to be a lot more civil than any zombie apocolypse, all you really need to worry about are bandits.

Its strange, the tech blackout is a kinda poor plot point from the point of view of a world. Is the black out like EMP hit everywhere or evil gods just said no to electronics (so cant make new ones)?

  12. Sauroposeidon October 31, 2012 at 11:08 am -      #12

I have to agree with Cananatra. I find the tech black out idea usually an extremely poorly played one. I’ve never seen a scenario where it feels like it could happen. I have an anti-zombie apocalypse plan, because I believe it’s plausible. No one has a magical-only-certain-kinds-of-combustion-and-electricity-don’t-work plan because it’s fucking lame.

  13. SgCombine October 31, 2012 at 11:10 am -      #13

Actually its these little magic necklaces that took out all the electricity from what I understand, they were some stupid government experiment. But now everyone is trying to get their hands on them because they can apparently also bring back the electricity…
But at least in Revolution you can live somewhat safely if your in the “Militia” unless of course you try to fight the main characters.
    -
    1. Revolution
    2. Revolution: All they gotta do is unite the little love necklaces and the powers back
    3. Revolution (I’m just plain sick of zombies)
    4. Neither

  14. Mike October 31, 2012 at 11:19 am -      #14

    @cananatra
-I’ve only seen about half the episodes of revolution, and strictly by chance, but from what i saw the blackout is part of the mystery of the show. No one knows how it happened other than some had an epiphany that it was man made and a constant effect instead of a flash blackout.
    -
    -
1)Revolution. Come on, if you are truly being serious you would not like to have to worry about zombies.
2)Revolution. In terms of “hope”, when you find out that even the living are infected and just need to die to convert, “hope” goes out the window when it comes to rebuilding. Oh, and almost everyone is dead so that’s a bummer on rebuilding too.
3)Revolution. They would smell better due to civilization not completely falling apart and the washing facilities that are available to them. Can’t stand to be around people that just stink like hell.
4)Walking Dead. If you are going to have a fictional basis for a show, go all out. Don’t say the lights turned off so everyone went mad max. Is the video game generation really that upset over not being able to play their games? I mean, if Revolution had to make a show about the week after their blackout, for it to start the world they are in you’d have to have 90% of people doing nothing beneficial and just comically running around screaming with their hands in the air…….. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFX1NtxkqcE 1:10 and on

  15. Cananatra October 31, 2012 at 11:21 am -      #15

well if thats how it works then the world recovers in a decade or so and people start insulating all electronics.

  16. Pemdas October 31, 2012 at 2:32 pm -      #16

    1) People who are saying they rather be in the walking dead are honestly irrational. The walking dead is no electricity plus zombies. Revolution is no Electricity. I rather have to take a shit in a ditch then have to take a shit in a ditch hoping a zombie doesn’t get me at the same time.
    -
    2) Revolution. Even if electricity never goes back on, its still better then becoming a zombie when you die.
    -
    3) ricks group, no doubt. The revolution group is horribly handicapped. Between the fat dude, and the teen girl the group is bad. The fat dude is useless and the girl doesn’t listen and only causes trouble. Plus, they make up half the group.
    -
    4) Walking dead. I have so far thought that every thing in the Walking dead is pretty realistic and the characters act realistic. In Revolution the characters feel fake and annoying.

    .
Constant undead hazard aside, just wanted to point out that Walking Dead does have electricity. Energy infrastructure may be down in most locations, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be brought back online should anyone care to.
    .
“2) Revolution. Even if electricity never goes back on, its still better then becoming a zombie when you die.”
    .
I’m dead. Why should I care what happens to me afterwards?
    .
“3) ricks group, no doubt. The revolution group is horribly handicapped. Between the fat dude, and the teen girl the group is bad. The fat dude is useless and the girl doesn’t listen and only causes trouble. Plus, they make up half the group.”
    .
Revolution-group-retardation aside, it does help quite a bit to have a highly trained military individual on your side. Rick’s group is sorely lacking on that part. Plus Revolution’s group also has a demolitions expert, and that same individual is part of an underground network that greatly expands the group’s resources in the form of the US Rebels. Thats a BIG plus there.
    .
“4) Walking dead. I have so far thought that every thing in the Walking dead is pretty realistic and the characters act realistic. In Revolution the characters feel fake and annoying.”
    .
Then there’s that. I loathe Revolution’s talent pool. I am a big fan of Bad Robot, but I feel they shot themselves in the foot with this thing. I don’t see it lasting any longer than Flashforward did.

    -
Yes power could be put back on if the zombies were taken care of. Its not as simple as “if any one cared to” it is actually quite complicated and you’d need people who under stand how it works. Most of the existing machines would have to be scrapped and rebuilt.
    -
“I’m dead. Why should I care what happens to me afterwards?”
    -
What I said was an attempt to sum up the hole zombie apoc instead of going into detail on what I presume almost every body knows. Of course you wouldn’t care if you are dead but what if your friends and family die and become zombies. Not just that but you have to worry about all the existing zombies two.

Why would I want a demolitions expert? In either universe that would be pretty impractical. Assuming i’m not trying to assassinate any one. For survival i’d rather have a skilled hunter or a farmer. As for the trained military guy. Hes the only useful person. But even his pure skill doesn’t make up for the teen girl and the fat dudes handicap. Even with the demolition experts some what handy nature, its still bad.

    ” I have an anti-zombie apocalypse plan, because I believe it’s plausible. ”
    -
    Ha!
    -
I, of course, have a zombie-plan as well. But zombies being plausible? Give me a break.

  20. Cananatra October 31, 2012 at 4:06 pm -      #20

Ye, its not plausible, but it amusing to think of a plan, and useful if the universe decides to play silly buggers and it happens.

  21. itcheyness October 31, 2012 at 4:43 pm -      #21

I already have a plan too, I even have a plan on what to do if I get bit.

Well, not as Romero puts it. However, I know many of us have seen the numbers run for how well the world would handle a disease that replicates what we think of when it comes to zombies. Such as The Walking Dead scenario. The numbers don’t bode well for us.

  24. Khazit October 31, 2012 at 10:27 pm -      #24

I prefer being stab, ass rape, shot, … rather than being eaten alive, so rev for the first 3

I agree, the right disease would destroy us. But would it result in zombies? Hardly.

The revolution storyline has already been leaked. Apparently: Spreading like a virus but only in certain kinds of conductors and capable of “damming up” the flow of electrons on command or as a default once some critical infection density is reached.
    —–
The pendants can command local infections to “ease off” and allow current flow.
All twelve pendants together have the gazillion digit “kill” code to disable the infection and allow 21st century technology to breathe again.
    ——–
The nanotech was developed as a “soft-kill” weapon system meant to disable an opponent’s technology and economy with a minimum of collateral damage (compared to bombing and missile strikes). It will not infect biological systems or impact atmospheric electrical phenomenon. It might also be transmittable by air so even battery powered items never connected to the copper power or communications grid would be infected as well.
    —-
The nanotech got loose from a test or was deliberately released by a malcontent.
    ——-
The 12 given the pendants had only a short time to prepare for the shutoff as the “copper fever” spread quickly and chaotically until critical infection density had been reached – then. Lights Out. And they’ll remain Out until the “kill” code is transmitted.
    —-
I hate TWD, too many idiots. I do like Revolution though. I’ve been preparing for a similar fate for a few years now.

  27. Kytheros November 1, 2012 at 11:39 pm -      #27

The first three, almost certainly Revolution.
An ongoing Zombie plague, especially one that’s latent in everyone alive is kind of a rather large problem, unless you’re planning on implanting suicide/kill devices (probably explosive and/or incendiary) in everyone that trigger when they die, so as to prevent zombified reanimation.
    -
As for number four … Revolution is still new, so there’s no way to be sure how good or bad it is – plenty of shows have had poorer beginnings and improved as things went on, and plenty haven’t held up. Plus, I haven’t watched that many episodes of either show.

  28. Sauroposeidon November 1, 2012 at 11:52 pm -      #28

“I agree, the right disease would destroy us. But would it result in zombies? Hardly.”
    -
Well, obviously, not every disease that can wipe us out as a species has to have zombies, but a zombie plague like what we see in left 4 dead or walking dead would collapse our civilization.

  29. LittleEpp November 2, 2012 at 7:18 am -      #29

I know nothing about the walking dead, but I think revolution has the first two easily. For the third from what people are commenting the revolution group is more effective, though it would probably be a lot more annoying. As for four, despite the fact I haven’t seen the walking dead, I would give it to them, I can’t stand the protagonist and ill-constructed plot of Revolution.

Civil war era weaponry?!? I thought revolution would be interesting but it all turned to nonsense.
