This is going to be one tough fight for Dante. I have never heard of Umar prior to this request, and after doing some research, she’s got some pretty hardcore powers to bring to the table.
Fight takes place on top of the world trade center.

I would REALLY like to know where Chuck gets his info from.
I own (and have beaten) DMC1 AND DMC3: Special Edition. I’ve beaten the latter at least 4 times beginning to end, easy to very hard on Dante alone, I believe I’ve only beaten Hard for Vergil (though I’ve come close on easy and Normal from what I remember).
Since everything else seems to move at speeds indiscernable from real time, I think it’s safe for me to say that even Devil Trigger Alastor Dante’s Stinger doesn’t move anywhere N E A R as fast as “mach 420″. If it did, then Mundus and Nelo would’ve been done in the cutscene.

Everyone has their own perspective on the events of 9/11 and the Aurora shootings. I personally saw nothing wrong with having the battle take place at the WTC. We have characters face off in many places that don’t exist, and the WTC no longer does.
Yes, it’s the site of a tragic event, but it wasn’t caused by the two characters in the fight. If the match suggestion was anything related to how the events unfolded that day, it wouldn’t get posted to the site, even if money was paid. (I would refund it).
We all have our opinion on the matter and that’s what makes this site great. What offends you may not offend me. There will always be different levels of tolerance for what people say and do. Some people think the “Jesus loves FactPile” video is offensive.
So, we are all responsible for our own actions, and for the comments we post.

No the tip would be even faster. At his fastest slash he moves his hands 3m in 0.5s, thats 6m/s. The tip on the other hand giving its length would be moving at around 18m/s.
In the HD remastered version there are no shards moving besides small flakes from Dante’s slashes.
You actually can measure how fast it was falling: At the beginning of the slow-mo you can see a large shard to the left of the screen that is about 1m off the ground, 1m taken from Dante’s height when you stand by that point, which is on the half-way point of that black bar on the wall. 12 seconds later at the end of the effect we see that the shard has moved down past the half-way point by a small amount. Using a ruler I measure the whole height to me 20cm with the distance it moved to be 0.1cm.
That’s 1/200th its total height of 1m, thus the shard moved 5mm in those 12 seconds
= 0.005 meters / 12 seconds
= 0.000416666667 m/s
I believe the glass was naturally falling at 10m/s? (Real falling speed / Slow-mo falling speed) * Slow-mo movement speed = Real movement speed
(10/ 0.000416666667)*6
= 144,000 m/s
= 144 km/s
Low-end lightning speed is 60km/s, average is 150km/s and high-end is 2,250km/s. Dante’s speed registers a hair below average lightning speed. So even if there is a small error in the calc it will still prove that the in-game description of “Gives the possessor lightning speed and aerial capabilities.” holds true to its words, and that Dante with Alastor moves at lightning speed.”

That glass window/skylight over Dante’s head is about 8 feet from his head. Assuming the lightning didn’t cause the glass to move faster…
8 feet = 2.4384 meters
Gravity = 9.81 m/(s*s)
Formula: distance = (a * t*t)/2 ( www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/k-12/airplane/mofall.html )
Change the formula around a little:
(2*2.4384m)/9.81 m/(s*s) = time * time
Time = 0.70507118950003689815071110877544 of a second for the glass to reach Dante’s head.

at 11:00 to 11:04, you’ll see Dante pretty much started slashing when the shards closest to the floor were some inches from touching the ground.
The glass shards were falling at an increasing speed, so they were about 7.5 m/s-8.5 m/s when Dante was cutting.
Seeing that Dante slashed 4 times until the first glass shard (which was about 10 cm off the ground when Dante started slashing) touched the floor, if the shard moved at an average velocity of 8.5 m/s falling those 10 cm (.1m) to the floor, then Dante would have had 1/85th of a second to do those 4 slashes.
Let’s say with each slash, Dante’s arms moved an average of 1 meter. 4 slashes * 1 meter = 4 meters of movement.
This means Dante was cutting at an average of 4 meters per 1/85 of a second (not factoring in the pause time required for each swing).
4 * 85 = 340 m/s
Coincidentally, this is pretty much exactly Mach 1.
I could just round the whole thing to 400m/s for the pause time for each swing.

Conclusion:
I don’t get Chuck’s calculations.
Dante’s slashes were around 400 m/s with Alastor. Supersonic, but not near lightning speed. No sonic booms, but sonic booms rarely ever happen anyway when we’re talking about the speed of japanese made characters.
Chuck’s calcs seem to be biased towards Dante. We need someone who doesn’t want Dante dick to do correct calcs.

The rocks in that scene were initially moving at 10m/s minimum based on gravity. A newer terminal velocity calc makes this speed slightly higher, about 12m/s+, but a lowball 10m/s is easier to work with. Post-QS makes the rocks fall at 1cm/s, or 0.01m/s.

10 / 0.01 = 1,000.
Meaning QS slows time down to 1/1,000th of its normal speed.
