We all watch the movies for a bit of escapism and whilst we are immersed in that fantasy world for about 90 minutes , some films tease our imaginations with an array of cool gadgets and ideas that we would just love to have in our real lives. Here is my list of personal favourites that I would so want to be around in the real world, what would you choose?
The Time Machine from Back to the Future
Probably a dangerous thing to wish for really but the opportunity to travel back in time in Doc Brown’s classic DeLorean has to be among the most sought after sci-fi gadgets ever invented. The nifty flux capacitator made time travel not only possible, but very easy. What wouldn’t we give to have the opportunity of nipping out to the garage and skipping back to all the good bits in life to enjoy over again or maybe even change?
Lightsaber from Star Wars
Okay it is hard to see what functional use in the modern world a Lightsaber would be, although the look on the face of a would be mugger when you whipped out that weapon of choice would be interesting to say the least. A Sci-Fi based gadget list is incomplete without the most legendary movie weapon of all time and it would probably earn you some deeper respect from your partner
Teleporter from Star Trek
If you can’t be bothered to go to the garage and fire up the DeLorean for some time travel then why not get yourself around effortlessly in real time with this legendary Star Trek tool. It would have so many cool uses to get you out of a tight spot or even a boring meeting, just say the magic words “Beam Me Up” and you could be anywhere you want to be and have a lot of fun turning up at places unexpectedly.
Contact Lenses from I-Spy
These special contact lenses rigged with camera and microphone were featured in Shanghai Knight and were used to help Eddie Murphy give Owen Wilson seduction lessons on a date night. It worked for him and bad romance became a thing of the past but not sure I would be choosing Eddie Murphy to give me dating tips. I suppose this gadget might actually be already available if you work for a government agency but let’s hope they don’t use it for dating.
The Neuralyzer from Men in Black
Now there must be better uses for this device other than keeping the presence of aliens on Earth a secret by wiping memories. The Neuralyzer could get a lot of use in a typical relationship, forgotten a birthday or anniversary, just whip out this handy tool and all is forgiven and forgotten.
Touch Screen from Minority Report
There is a geek in virtually all of us trying to get out and who could fail to be impressed when Tom Cruise navigated his way around an amazing interactive touch screen that was made in gadget heaven. Maybe Microsoft’s Kinect could one day look like this, it would certainly make doing your spreadsheets and sales forecasts at the office a lot more interesting.
Remote Control from Click
How much fun could we have with this implausible but much wanted gadget . Being able to pause, fast forward or slow down time would be super cool and very useful. You could skip work every day with the fast forward button and like in the film with Adam Sandler, you could slow down special moments or even change the language you speak in. Who wouldn’t want one of those remote controls if they ever became available
Point Of View Gun from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Well if you don’t agree with the choices listed in this article then with one pull of the trigger of this special gun all that will change. The point of view gun does exactly what it says on the tine – just point it at someone and pull the trigger, they instantly see things from your point of view. Could this be the answer to the perfect relationship, getting your partner to see your point of view without the need for an argument. Keep dreaming and enjoying those classic movie moments, now back to reality.
Written by Samantha Harvey, a movie fan and gadget addict on behalf of Casino Mate

Batman’s belt from the Adam West era. Probably has those things or stuff to make those things in it.
The remote.
Remote control. For sure
Holodeck and replicator from Star Trek
Lightsaber
Portal Gun
The C Cube from Artemis Fowl (3rd book)
The Star Forge from Star Wars
-
I assumed we were allowed to pick multiple things because Admin has several listed, but if I could only choose one it would be the holodeck for sure.
Replace admin with Samantha Harvey in my last post.
(sorry for possible double post)
Didn’t the Remote have that whole ‘automatically putting you in autopilot for entire years if not decades of your life’ flaw if used too much? Kind of a deal-breaker there.
-
Going to have to agree with Harbinger about the Holodeck and/or replicator, although I’d also settle for a Green Lantern Ring, Iron Man suit, Sonic Screwdriver and/or Tardis, or (if one could use it without killing/harming oneself), the Sphere.
-
Although some of those might be pressing the definition of ‘gadget’ a bit.
The Star Forge would be the ultimate tool of conquest. Problem is, I don’t like the whole dark side corruption effect it has on you.
I would probably go with the time jumper from Stargate. Or maybe a Sodan phase shifter from Stargate.
The Breath of the Gods. Makes and unmakes stars.
Trying desperately to think of a gadget that would make me immortal.
“Trying desperately to think of a gadget that would make me immortal.”
-stargate’s ancient gene modification devices that make you evolve to the point of being able to ascend. not only are you immortal, but you are near omniscient, but very powerful and can dimensionally travel at will(or something along those lines).
SONIC SCREWDRIVER!
^This.
“Didn’t the Remote have that whole ‘automatically putting you in autopilot for entire years if not decades of your life flaw if used too much?
-
Yep
-
“Kind of a deal-breaker there.”
-
Damn skippy it is
-
“The Star Forge would be the ultimate tool of conquest.”
-
I was thinking manufacturing rather that conquest. You could manufacture virtually anything at little to no cost. You would be a trillionaire almost overnight.
-
“Problem is, I don’t like the whole dark side corruption effect it has on you.”
-
True, the dark side corruption would suck, but I’m sure there’s a way around it
Yeah … Ill go with Sonic Screwdriver
point of view gun
-
there will almost never be another murder simply shoot them with the point of view gun and they’ll realize why you hate them
On that list, the neuralyzer. Otherwise, Green Lantern ring.
On that list, there is a lot of negatives to go with the positives. Time Travel can wipe you out of time. Teleport needs two to work. Etc. Etc. So none of those for me.
-
Of film, I would say something with cloaking. Something that I can turn invisible without the flaws of having it as a power.
From the list I’d probably take the Neuralyzer, or possibly the remote from click if it worked perfectly without auto-settings.
-
Any item though, I’d pick the rope Brooks hanged himself with in Shawshank Redemption.
I would like to use the Point of View Gun.
from the list I would not touch that remote with a infinitely long steel pole. I’d probably go with the time machine and not be stupid enough to stay in the town my parents are living in back where I go (if I go where they were my age its really easy) or the Neuralyzer since it could prove really handy. “No officer, I wasn’t speeding.”
—–
not on the list, Sonic Screwdriver, period.
Neuralyzer.
By far.
I…why would you want the remote, I just don’t see enough pluses to it to counter the destroys your life and you end up at the end of your life having not lived it. Oh and it comes from the freaking Angel of Death, that is the biggest don’t take sign in the world.
Ironman armor or The Neuralyzer.
From the list I think I’d go with the Transporter ^^ That way I could travel around the world without having to pay fees for travel or hotels xD Just beam to a nice place for the day and beam home to sleep! Perfect.
__
From the movies? I’d have to go for the TARDIS! I mean who wouldn’t want that?
__
I give you Dr. Who and the Daleks in 1965 www.imdb.com/title/tt0059126/
__
And Daleks’ Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. in 1966 www.imdb.com/title/tt0060278/
__
For movie TARDIS’ xD. While I’m in the TARDIS maybe in the future they’ve made all the other gadgets and I can get them that way!
Don’t you have to have someone there with the Transporter, meaning it would have to be someone you trusted.
I agree though the TARDIS would be cool, and you could get a Sonic from it so I go TARDIS not on the list.
In the early seasons of DS9 when all they had was Runabouts, and they generally beamed everyone to the surface for an episode. They would tap their com badge and say “3 to beam up” or whatever and the Runabouts computers would beam them back.
__
So I assumed if we could pick a Transporter it would have an automated beam back. I mean it’s not like the location of the transporter itself would be moving.
Ah haven’t watched Deep Space 9 in a long time. I just assumed it meant the standard versions.
Id either go for the point of view gun or the remote from click if I could fix it’s “bugs”…Would the powers of god in bruce almighty count?
1.Point of View Gun
2.neuralizer
3.Portal Gun
4.Chainsword.
my top 4.
@wera193
The portal guns from a video game not a film….If that were the case Id get Maxwell’s notebook.
@Gendrons
its not a bug so much as it gets used to what you like to do. If you fastforward for certain things it starts fastforwarding whenever they come up etc.
@GuardianAngel1911
It would only be useful if you could reset it afterward as shown that he accidentally went to far forward and that you could choose a type of behavior while that version of you deals with something.
I change my mind I choose the iron giant XD
point of view gun
hook it up to factpile with a usb wire and fire away
I will have the Click Control, thats all I need…..jigli jigli jigli
I know the Sonic is not on the list, but I had to say it. From the list I would go with the Time Machine.
nuff sed
I just don’t know about the remote, seems to much potential negative
the coolest and most useful things seem to be Neuralyzer and Time Machine to me.
from the list i would choose The Neuralyzer from Men in Black.
-
I’m with you GA, there’s too many things that could go wrong with the Click Remote. I mean how many of you have accidently pressed the wrong button on your TV remote or music player?
__
I think I’ll stick with my choice of Transporter… Though the Time Machine *does* seem tempting, but I can’t drive, so there’s a down point there. Though I guess I’d easily enough be able to learn.
TARDIS. No contest.
@Mr Gendrons 2.0
My bad, checked over again but i thought video ganes were allowed.
“Though the Time Machine *does* seem tempting, but I can’t drive, so there’s a down point there. Though I guess I’d easily enough be able to learn.”
You could always go with the old H. G. Wells Time Machine; no driving involved. Just a lever; push it one way to go forward in time, the other way to go backwards.
-
And I wouldn’t touch any kind of Star-Trek-esque teleporter/transpoter with a 10-foot pole. I am not a fan of being disinteagrated, and then having a veritable clone with my memories and personality running around thinking he’s me, thank you very much. Only type of teleporter I’d go for is Nightcrawler-esque, where you don’t get reduced to subatomic particles and subsequently killed in the process.
@Zaz
The Delorean I chose from the list in the OP. From any Movie I’d go with the TARDIS ^^ see my post above (#24). Can’t beat a time machine like that xD
__
Besides H.G Wells’ time machine only went forwards IIRC didn’t it? Been ages since I saw the film.
click’s remote control. a lightsaber, green preferably. or a tardis.
“Besides H.G Wells’ time machine only went forwards IIRC didn’t it? Been ages since I saw the film.”
it could but you couldnt change the past.
he tried to save his fiance from getting mugged but when he did she got hit by a car instead repeat for a long time
why do people keep saying the remote, there is not enough good to outweigh the bad, how often do you hit the wrong button on your remote when your trying to do something simple but specific your chances of screwing up something increase exponentially with that remote.
If it came with all of Sauron’s Power, then I would go with the One Ring.
Dalorian!
-
How is this even a discussion?
FLYING CAR THAT TRAVELS THROUGH TIME!
-
I hate driving and even for me this is a no brainer.
Prime 3 Chozo Armor with all Upgrades.
@OriginalA
-
But the what about the butterfly effect?
Always jump into the future instead of the past. When jumping back make sure you always “land” near where you “took off” from as well as at nearly the same time.
-
You avoid the butterfly effect by never tampering with your past. Yeah, the future is going to be different every time you visit it, but that’s the very nature of the future; it is always in flux.
-
That is, of course, you subscribe the idea that time is fluidic. Some believe that time is set and cannot be altered; you can’t have a butterfly effect because you were always suppose to do that thing in the past just as you have always had done it previously.
-
Personally though I subscribe to the more flexible idea.
I choose, the remote control.
That way I can have as much time as I need to finish my homework.
@GuardianAngel1911
Sorry buddy but the remote give’s you some of the best opportunities. Maybe you could reset it? At any rate the only better movie ability was god’s powers in “Bruce Almighty” (both powers are universal).
——–
I’ve got an idea for a match:Megas XLR vs the Iron Giant. Your thoughts?
if i were to choose from the list it would be ether the Neuralyzer or the Delorean because come on, who does’nt want a Delorean that no one can remember. but if i could choose from anything like everyone else happens to be doing i would have to choose the TARDIS or the power of the Voice from Skyrim
does anyone remember the device from a post a long time ago like the What If…You Awoke in Ancient Jerusalem? post??? i would love that gadget
Lightsaber or Neuralyzer just to be safe, or Infinity Ganutlet or something
@Deus
Hey great to see you back on. Good news Dresden got his award over Kratos.
Sephiroth and him are somewhat deadlocked now though. Still though.
——
So what have you been up too?
@DEM
Great to have you back with us, comrade!
@Admiral
A deadlock gives me room for contentment, for now I am content!
Lightsabers or Neuralyzers never hurt.
Yay!
And my Interne thas been kapoofed and it might stay tht way, currently I’m at a friends chillin, and you?
.
Apologies on not being on more
@Deus
No big deal, things happen.
Mostly just been enjoying summer break, we’re building a house, it’s pretty well done and we are moving in soon. Worked on my novels some.
@Admiral
Hope your odds are proving to be better as of late, also hope you may respond back on gaia online and I even find nods in regards to some of the What-ifs you concocted, as well.
@DEM
As long as you let us know what happened, its fine.
@CC good to be back, even if only temporarily.
@Guardian nice nice, Summer has been pretty cool. And good luck with the house!
.
@CC My Internet catastrophically failed and we might have to cancel it for a while to find out, so I might not be on for a while, and this would be bad.
@DEM
I hope that you return more frequently, besides if the 3-vs-2 universe fight with the Butcher Side being the two does happen, then regardless on who you’re siding with, it’d be an honor to see you there, alright?
So your thoughts on a Lightsaber?
@CC will do, I hope I can get on more, and a lightsaber would be cool to have, no one would mess with you and I hope that pre-cog comes with it to control it or I will slice myself up.
.
And maybe we could reverse engineeer it…
@DEM
Likewise.
Hope that if it comes down to reverse engineering, that there’s a way to make sure no one manages to slice themselves up, agreed?
@Deus
Thanks.
Neuralyzer or Delorian, go to the future and buy anything else probably.
——
Mind looking at Dresden vs Sephiroth?
Neuralyzer.
-
Think about it, you can be the Supreme Overlord (Without bloodshed). Erase every man’s (or woman’s) memory who stands in your way – if they’re 40, erase 38 years of they’re memory. You can defeat bloody nations. So yeah, Neuralyzer.
Oh that time stop watch from that one movie i forget the name of is also good.
——
So far the point of view gun,click remote and the iron giant though are in my top 3.
From that list, Neuralyzer. No more homework for me!
Not from that list, the Confessors powers from The Sword of Truth series. I also wanted that power
Oh that injector from megamind with metroman’s dna.
I would have to chose the infinity gauntlet!
“Oh that time stop watch from that one movie i forget the name of is also good.”
-
Random guess, but… Clockstoppers?
@Koldfury
What took you so long to get back to the site?
@Everyone else
Neuralyzer for the win!
@cc
I never left. I work crazy hours so I most of the time cant check the site till around this time. And if there is a debate going and its past 100 comments, I most of the time feel that its all been said.
@Koldfury
Care to get back to Rand’s match against Richard Rahl?
This may be stretching the definition of “gadget” but itd be pretty cool to be infected with mercer strain blacklight, if that is not allowed i would also accept mjolnir (assuming i were deemed worthy)
Sonic Screwdriver all the way, precautions just in case daleks arrive
nanomachines in my body giving me superpowers like able to generate nouns (people,places,or things) and control when my immortallity is on or off because i do need to stop at some point. so basicly godlike powers in a human body because of nanomachines in my bloodstreem so still gadgets.
da s screwdriver cant open deadlocks of wooden locks though so it has a drawback,but my nanos could open any lock screwdrivers can and wooden or deadlock ones.its all there black and white clear as crystal!You lose! You win nothing!-willy wonka from him and the choco factory
Tesseract (really the Cosmic Cube)
If Avengers 2 has it, the Infinity Gauntlet.
the odyssey with the asgard core from stargate because it has the ability to create matter or in other words anything you want plus i could travel the universe
Green Lantern power rings are technically gadgets, and I would most definitely choose one of those. Along with the Power Lantern itself, of course.
Does it have to be from movies? if so I’d take the virus that gives the Wesker ablilities
If not….then I’d take a RIG from DeadSpace
the nano forge from red fraction armageddon
redfaction.wikia.com/wiki/Nano_Forge
I am going with a Emperor class battle barg! Say hello to the human race conquring the stars!
