Can Eragon use his death spells? If he can he wins with little effort.
Another question does Eragon get to use all the dragon hearts he obtained at the end of the series or no?
Lord Soth has a very large chance of winning. One word is all it takes. He makes Eragon’s death spells look pitiful in comparison.
Eragon with Saphira and Eldunari? What has Lord Soth done.
Soth points at Eragon and says “die”, Eragon does so.
-
I’m not even joking about that.
Eragon notices Soth and THINKS “Die” and Soth does. I’m not joking either. He doesn’t even have to think a word, just think of him dead.
Considering Soth is already dead that’s probably not gonna work…
“Eragon notices Soth and THINKS “Die” and Soth does. I’m not joking either. He doesn’t even have to think a word, just think of him dead.”

Pray tell what does this to a Death Knight? One who’s dead in fact.
I’m on an ipod so I can’t type quotes-
This is just eragon

Lord soth has an unnatural fear aura that scares even kender ( fearless )
Can stop your heart with a touch
Turn invisible

And more I’ll post later
@Lightning
Won’t lie, if Jason of CHB(Percy’s paternal 1st cousin) has a shot at Eragon and Dresden flat-out beats Eragon…this is gonna hurt very much for the Shadeslayer, isn’t it?
I didn’t know he was dead. If he is, then Eragon will think for him to disappear instead. Also, does Eragon have his dragon and Eldunari? And HOW DOES JASON (who’s not from CHB) BEAT ERAGON!?!?!??!?!?!
@Epic
1st off, Jason’s originally not from that titular boot camp, 2nd, I said he has a shot at beating Eragon, 3rd, Dresden and Haseo(dot.hack universe) are his betters at actually getting Eragon already!
Need me to add more, I’ll do that!
“Lord soth has an unnatural fear aura that scares even kender ( fearless )

Why not start of with something more substantial? Like… Eternal Lichedom, his soul is encased in an adamantium cask lost inside a volcano, allowing him to be corporeal or incorporeal at will, phase through matter, teleport. How about that his immortality is a no limit fallacy that requires a being of god level to break?
some quotes from theshort story true knight from tales II trilogy volume 2
death touch
“soths finger hovered near michaels heart. one touch of that death-chilled hand and the heart would burst”
page 335
-
this is soths fear aura stoping a murderous mob of desperate religious fanatics.
“nikol blinked ,stared in dazed astonishment, unable to comprehend what was happening . she and the knight were outnumbered a thousand to one, yet the mob was not attacking. faces that had been contorted in bloodlust were now twisted in horror. curses and threats shrilled to terrified shrieks. men who had been raceing up the library stairs were tumbling over themselves and each other were now in a panicked race back down.
the revered son was among the first to flee, running for his life , driven by such stark terror it seemed likely he would only stop when he reached the newsea”
page 340

minor flames
“flames sprang up, engulfing te page, the book, seemed likely to set fire to the room. michael fell back with a cry, shielding nikol with his body, his hand raised to ward off the searing heat.”

@Total: So this is a spite match that Eragon has no chance of winning?
“@Total: So this is a spite match that Eragon has no chance of winning?”
-
In my opinion? Yes, completely. Although it may not be a spite match… more like a debut rape match.
@T_O and Epic
I doubt NKB meant for an outright spite match, although I must wonder…no better options available at the time?
Well either way, if you want to check out Harry Dresden vs Eragon, you’re welcome to ask me to link you that match!
I wonder if Lord Soth vs Naruto is next in line.
In any case, is there more to discuss for both sides thus far?
this was not intended as a spite match. i thought eragon would be a sutible match up as he is skilled in both magic and swordsman ship, he is also a pretty popular fantasy charachter so i though he would have more supporters
@NKB
I never said you were trying to gun for a Spite match, hence the benefit of the doubt!
Although it does confirm that no better options were available at the time.
Does Lord Soth have any means to defend against the Alagaesian version of the True Speech?(I know Jason of CHB does except I don’t have The Lightning Thief with me, Dresden definitely does, NQA, but what about Soth?)
@Everyone else
Now to return to the kombat?
“Does Lord Soth have any means to defend against the Alagaesian version of the True Speech?”
-
I’m feeling to lazy to look it up… would you care to elaborate?
@T_O
The True Speech is something the Admiral recalls better than myself, I just know that its not gonna do jack against any resident of CHB or Jason’s original Camp(let’s agree not to utter its name in here for now!), and at worst it just makes them more uber if direct application is unleashed on them, but I’m not so aware if Lord Soth has such defenses prepared!
Also, how fast can Eragon shoot an arrow at Lord Soth’s knees?
Why can’t the Campers from either camp be affected by the Ancient Language?
another feat of soths is freezing the gates of palanthas causing them to shatter
-
and using his death word to kill the dragon fireflash
@Epic
Its in TLT, but I don’t have that volume on me!(not once but TWICE did useful things elude me to provide context for, because I don’t have that novel!)
All that I’m clarifying is this, Don’t even try the true speech directly on the camp unless you have a wish to get ripped a new @sshole!
@NKB
Got more on hand at the moment?
“Its in TLT, but I don’t have that volume on me!(not once but TWICE did useful things elude me to provide context for, because I don’t have that novel!)
All that I’m clarifying is this, Don’t even try the true speech directly on the camp unless you have a wish to get ripped a new @sshole!”
did not awnser his question. you dont need the book on hand to say why.
-
“@NKB
Got more on hand at the moment?”
im currently looking through legends trillogy to see what i can find
minor but he makes no sound when he walks despite wearing full armor
@NKB
Maybe, but the book on hand has the quote, which pretty much gets the point across!
Let’s just say the genetics of either CHB or Jason’s camp are woven in such a manner, that attempting to directly apply the True Speech on residents of either boot camp will just result in them getting more uber!
Now if you were talking the Dresden Files on the other hand…then maybe their case might work, it might not work!
@NKB
Alright, care to let us know your findings to dictate whether or not Eragon can pull off shooting Lord Soth in the knee?
First time posting.
Is the Ancient Language’s true name allowed?
If so, it’s been described as allowing unlimited power.
“Alright, care to let us know your findings to dictate whether or not Eragon can pull off shooting Lord Soth in the knee?”
-
Soth doesnt have knees… your joke will go no where! ;-p
can eragon see soth if he turns invisible?
“can eragon see soth if he turns invisible?”
-
Magic induced invisible, or phase out / realm of the dead invisible?
-
Magic induced would depend on the spell rank Soth used, the fact thats hes equivalent to an low ranking arch-mage, and which moon/moons were in the sky over Dagard keep at the time.
-
Phaseout/Deadrealm, not a chance.
“Magic induced invisible, or phase out / realm of the dead invisible?”
im not sure
in true knight it is shown soth can turn invisible at will but it dosnt say how if i had to guess it would be a supernatural ability not a spell as its not cast
“in true knight it is shown soth can turn invisible at will but it dosnt say how if i had to guess it would be a supernatural ability not a spell as its not cast”
-
Other undead entities in the series attribute it to supernatural abilities, but Soth can use magic as well, were others couldnt. I dont have any of the other tabletop/P&P rulesets for Soth in front of me either, so i couldnt exactly say.
i think its safe to say its a supernatural ability
-
in true knight soth creats a gust of chill wind that “numbed flesh and bone” causing veteran knights of solamnia to drop thier wepons
“Onlinemph ”
welcome to factpile
Onlinemph said it all.
“Onlinemph”
-
Welcome aboard comrade
So, we’re all agreed Soth wins this easily?
Its so far Soth’s fight to lose unless Eragon’s permitted all the stuff that’s usable in his universe.
This might be fun to see whether or not Eragon can shoot Soth in the metaphorical kneecaps or not!*
1.) (Yes, I’m aware that Soth has no literal kneecaps, but I’ll be blasted if I contemplate the idea, blasted if I don’t!!!)
As I am not familiar with Lord Soth does he have physical mouth that this death word is uttered out of?
Or is he just a spirit trapped in clothes and armor?
If it’s the former, Eragon could silence him in a single thought.
I am still wondering about the Name of Names as it could be used to do just about anything.
“As I am not familiar with Lord Soth does he have physical mouth that this death word is uttered out of?
Or is he just a spirit trapped in clothes and armor?”
-
He has no mouth, and his “armor” isnt technically real. Its a corrupted image of his former glory. Its weird to explain but he is a spectral liche, his armor and weapons operate the same as real ones, only when he wishes it, and serve no real purpose beyond that of a tormenting reminder of his past. They fall in the realm of manifested will more then that of the physical.
@Total_Overkill
Is it just hearing this Death Word that causes mortem, or is it the magic that it was uttered with?
“Is it just hearing this Death Word that causes mortem, or is it the magic that it was uttered with?”
-
Hard to say, Dragonlance series has the whole “Powerword Kill” spells, and similar abilities. Magic, supernatural, and divine in nature.
-
Soth’s instance of killing a Red dragon is a little… unusual. Dragonlance dragons differ from their D&D counterparts. They possess the “Divine” spark, essentially making them “Angels” to the Dragonlance Gods. They can only be killing by Items of specific purposes (aka, Dragonlances) , Magic of unreal purportions, other dragons or upperlevel beings. They all possess innate magical resistance and ability that dwarfs the majority of mages in the universe. Powerword kill isnt exactly the most powerful spell in caster terms either, Soth may have not even needed to say anything at all in order to “Will” the dragon dead… it may have been a snide off-handed remark.
-
Then again, the incident did happen within the mists of ravenloft if im not mistaken, which is supposed to be a hellish plane of torment… which nothing is supposed to die in? Which further compounds the potential power and problem of just wtf he actually did.
didnt he beat the young red dragon in ravenloft to death?
i know he used power word kill on the bronze dragon fireflash in the legends trilogy
-
i havni read knight of the black rose or the second part yet but didnt he creat a giant magic fist to attack strahds castle?
-
“which nothing is supposed to die in?”
isnt that only darklords?
the pwk spell
“You utter a single word of power that instantly kills one creature of your choice, whether the creature can hear the word or not.’
theres is more but its game mechanics that have been shown not to be true for soth
“didnt he beat the young red dragon in ravenloft to death?
i know he used power word kill on the bronze dragon fireflash in the legends trilogy”
-
Could have swore it was “Die” and red dragon goes splat… I may have to reread the book some day >.>
-
“isnt that only darklords?”
-
Possibly? I dont see the point in keeping plebians in a domain of torment if they can be so easily killed and their torment ended though o_O
Lord Soth stomps Eragon into the ground
Good debut for Soth, it’s always sad when a new character get’s it’s ass kicked in it’s debut match. Maybe we should match Soth against the Lich King Arthas next time?
“Maybe we should match Soth against the Lich King Arthas next time?”
-
The original vs the pretender? That match shall be nothing but a flame war! … i like it ^_^
Soth vs Gothmog or another Maia?
@il vernus
I wouldn’t say that.
The Name of Names can be used to do…. Almost anything really.
oh sorry forgot about that, but before eragon says anything can’t lord soth just look at eragon think die and eragon will
Still going to read eragon and have not watched the movie
@il vernus
Although Soth maybe already dead, There is a whole host of nasty things Eragon can do by just thinking too.
This battle is strange, it does not seem like there is an “Achilles heel” for this Soth.
There isn’t, odds are that Soth’s aura of fear will cause Eragon to hesitate before he casts anything so he’ll be wide open for Soth’s “Die” command anyway.
How does this “Die” command kill?
“This battle is strange, it does not seem like there is an “Achilles heel” for this Soth.”
-
Only thing close to a pure, legitimate weakness on Soth’s behalf, is mindfuckery/tormenting memory regarding his wife and child, and his ill deeds of the past as a mortal. While its true he has been cursed to endure such a thing nightly, its one of the few things ever shown to have a profound effect on him. Its quite possibly the only thing holding Soth “In check” lorewise, so he doesnt become an engine of pure malice and destruction upon the world, instead of a withdrawn ego-centrist lich
although if you do bring up his family or the gods he tends to get angry and violent
@Total_Overkill
That’s how Eragon beat Galbatorix in the last book, he cast a spell that made him feel all the pain and anguish he had dealt others.
I smell coin-toss to hazard as to whether or not that word will be enough of a threat to at least turn the tables on Soth to give Eragon a chance to shoot an Arrow to Soth’s knees, in here.
I was reading more on Soth, he seems to have an honor code, as in not attacking until the enemy’s sword is drawn. A quick magical attack could be throw in before that.
Also, what mental defenses does Soth have?
@Cross: What do you mean?
-
Also, would the suggestion in #60 work?
@Epic
We have to toss a coin to dictate whether or not such an ability would be enough of a threat to Soth if it hits him.
Its the same kind of deal with Cell being capable of blowing up a Solar System, we have no way of knowing for sure if he was capable of doing this, its not wise to say he can’t do that any more than its surely wise to believe that he can, either.
That right there is just one instance when we must toss up the coin!
Just finished the Inheratance series, and I don’t know much about lord Soth. I assume that the Eldunari and Saphira cannot aid him in this, since they are seperate beings. Still, Eregon would that the belt of Bellos the Wise(Stores the energy he needs for his spells) as well as Brom’s elf star ring, which was filled with energy collected over the course of Brom’s very long life before he dies.
-
Eregon usually travels with a number of wards protecting him as a counter measure to anyone attacking him with magic, so without coming into the battle with his wards will not count as prep time, as it is in no way related to planning against Lord Soth.It is unlikely that Soth could kill him just by saying Die, as Eragon’s knows the eight true names of death, and would have wards in place to prevent magicians from using them against him.
-
Eregon was enhanced by the dragons to be as fast and agile and strong as the elfs, so physically he is no pushover. He cannot weild normal weapons, as his strength is too great for such blades to last very long before they break. His sword, Brisingr, however, is specially made for him, and can take the force of his blows.
-
Eregon knows the name of names, that is, the name of the ancient language, which allows him to literraly rewrite magic itself. With it he can empower his spells to an insane degree, rewrite the spells of others, and even prevent spells from being cast at all. He is also able to attack the minds of his foes, which is a usual tactic when facing spell casters due to the dangers associated with casting spells without knowing what spells your opponent is going to cast. Eregon also knows his own true name, in which he knows EVERYTHING about himself, good or bad, meaning he knows what his strengths and weaknesses is without any illusion or lie, even to himself.
-
Again, I havn’t read much about Lord Soth, though if I recall right that was dragonlance. I would have to know of all of his abilities before I could guess, but Eregon won’t go down with a simple “Die” that much is certain.
“, but Eregon won’t go down with a simple “Die” that much is certain.”
proof?
soth has killed dragons with it
Can Eragon shoot Soth with an Arrow to the knee, figuratively speaking?
“killed dragons” So? Killing a dragon doesn’t mean you can kill all dragons. And notice, Eregon isn’t a dragon, he is a rider binded to a dragon, trained by elves, killer of shades(Spirits bound into bodies with incredable power and strength), and keeper of the name of names. If you want to say that Lord Soth can Kill Eregon with a word, please explain how Lord Soth manages to overcome Eregons wards, as well as oppose rewriting the ancient language so that Soth’s magic rebounds against him? Again, Eregon can command magic itself, and rewrite Soths magic as he casts it, and turn them against him as Galbatorix did with the Varden’s forces as they entered Urabane, so that death spells retargeted the allies of the varden rather then Galbatorixes troops(Which Galbatorix specifically gloated on creating that exact effect).
-
Again, I don’t know what Soths full range of powers are, so tell me and I’ll see if I can figure out a way that Soth can bypass Eregon’s defenses.
-
“Can Eragon shoot Soth with an Arrow to the knee” While Eregon could potentually, it is unlikely that he would resort to a bow and arrow while he has Brisingr and his magic. More likely he would try to simply crush Soths knee with a spell then bother trying an arrow, as he is used to fighting opponents with wards that protect against most physical damage.
Does that mean Eragon can go head-to-head against Naruto himself, now?
If so, it sounds cool!
Eregon would destroy Naruto, as Naruto himself is weak against genjitsu abilities, or techniques that mess with the mind. Eregon is trained in attacking a persons mind and taking control of it. Of course, the Nine-tail might be a different story…
So shall we consider planning out Naruto vs Eragon at some point?
“Killing a dragon doesn’t mean you can kill all dragons.”
it shows he can kill powerful creatures with a word
-
And notice, Eregon isn’t a dragon, he is a rider binded to a dragon”
no reason the word woulnt work.
-
” killer of shades”
in d&d tearm high low tier undead
-
” If you want to say that Lord Soth can Kill Eregon with a word, please explain how Lord Soth manages to overcome Eregons wards”
prove the wards would stop it i see no reason why the would
-
“, as well as oppose rewriting the ancient language so that Soth’s magic rebounds against him?”
1) soths undead so it wouldnt affect him
2) his abilities are not conected to the ancient language eragon could fool around with the ancient laguage all he wants and it wouldnt matter to soth
-
“prove the wards would stop” Elemental compatability, until you prove otherwise, the magics are considered compatable, and burden of proof falls on you to prove that Soth can overcome the wards, not me to prove it can’t.
-
“soths undead so it wouldnt affect him” Maybe not killing him in a conventional manner, but Eregon could sever all his limbs, crush his internal organs, and mind rape him, effectively neutralizing him.
-
“his abilities are not conected to the ancient language eragon could fool around with the ancient laguage all he wants and it wouldnt matter to soth” Again, elemental compatability, until you can prove that the magics are so unlike they can have nothing in common, then they are considered to work with one another. Them’s the rule.
@NKB
On the upside, this match might(emphasis on might) now be better than 1st glance suggests, right?
“Elemental compatability, until you prove otherwise, the magics are considered compatable, and burden of proof falls on you to prove that Soth can overcome the wards, not me to prove it can’t.”
youve given me no reason why they would stop eragon from droping dead
-
“Maybe not killing him in a conventional manner, but Eregon could sever all his limbs, crush his internal organs, and mind rape him, effectively neutralizing him.”
quoteing total overkill
“He has no mouth, and his “armor” isnt technically real. Its a corrupted image of his former glory. Its weird to explain but he is a spectral liche, his armor and weapons operate the same as real ones, only when he wishes it, and serve no real purpose beyond that of a tormenting reminder of his past. -
“Again, elemental compatability, until you can prove that the magics are so unlike they can have nothing in common, then they are considered to work with one another. Them’s the rule.”
the fact his magic isnt conected to that language is enough
-
dosnt mater anyway because eragon is too busy pissing himself to cast magic
“are not conected to the ancient language” Also, that would put him at a greater disadvantage, since Eregon can use the name of names to give something without a name a name, as he does with the shadowbirds and tunnelgrubs at the end of the series. Again, the name of names is the name of the ancient language, essentially allowing Eregon to change the language itself, which is why it such a powerful knowledge to have.
too bad hes too scared shitless to do any thing but run and die
How well does Eregon perform against abilities of a “Divine” nature?
theyre non existant in his world
Shit, you can’t even spell Eragon properly?
@Lightning
So…you won’t be offended on the idea of Naruto vs Eragon to be suggested, provided that a match like that gets done right, right?
“theyre non existant in his world”
-
Well… thats going to be a problem, because of how some of the Dragonlance magic works.
-
All (i believe its called) “High-Magic” isnt “Magic” in the traditional sense. Its divine ability similar to that of Fantasy Clerics receive from their patron gods, The 3 “magic” gods of dragonlance respectively. Further proven by the fact that when the 3 are disposed of, all magic users of the 3 lose all their power. Setting up the quest for Primal and Elemental magic (Traditional magic powers) That possess no need of divine will to utilize.
And by the same token, Soth’s supernatural undead abilities are granted by Chemosh, god of death.
-
So… divine protection anyone?
“So…you won’t be offended on the idea of Naruto vs Eragon to be suggested”
-
Personally, im offended whenever anything Narutard gets a match ;-p
@T_O
Lightning is more forgiving than either of us, I’m not afraid to admit it, that’s why I ask if a match like the one I mentioned isn’t gonna be an offense to her, really.
Trust me, I would never fight to offend her sensibilities 24/7, even though apart from our receptions for CHB our tastes may be different overall.
Can someone explain how Soth’s, “Kill” command works?
Also, Eragon has a plethora of defenses from death words.
eragons death words all deal with bodily fuctions
eg stoping the heart, hitting a certan spot in the brain
soths just causes you to drop dead
@NKB
If AK solos the Death Words in all respects except practitioners, and Soth’s command solos AK, what does that mean again?
’
How is Soth in the Mind resistance department?
He seems a little messed up in the head from what I am hearing.
“How is Soth in the Mind resistance department?”
immune
all d&d undead are
Okay, the way I see it is that they both have a small amount of time before Soth uses his Kill command, in this Eragon will be able to do any nasty little thing that pops into his head.
“How is Soth in the Mind resistance department?
He seems a little messed up in the head from what I am hearing.”
-
Being a specter goes a long way in not having a mind to manipulate ;-p
-
Theres not much mindfuckery that could be inflicted upon Soth that he already doesnt experience nightly, as part of his curse. Induced illusions and mental manipulation never worked on D.L undead as it stands.
“in this Eragon will be able to do any nasty little thing that pops into his head.”
fear aura will keep eragon shaken atleast long enough to pull it off
@Total_Overkill
Alagaesia mind rape doesn’t work that way.
-
The only way to defend from it is too focus on one thing, other then that the person has total control of the other’s body.
-
This worked with Shades, who are technically spirits also.
“Alagaesia mind rape doesn’t work that way.
-
The only way to defend from it is too focus on one thing, other then that the person has total control of the other’s body.
-
This worked with Shades, who are technically spirits also.”
-
You’ll have to elaborate, as it stands, it seems exactly the same as similar D&D spell counterparts. And Fallstar is correct, D&D undead are immune with sparse exceptions
It’s rather interesting, mind control can happen at any time, there are no spells that can stop it.
-
Someone doing a mind attack can see what the other person is thinking at all times. The only way to defend from a mind attack is to focus your entire being on one object, be it a sword, a scale on the back of your dragon, or just a random hymn that’s echoing though your mind during a battle.
-
Magicians don’t like using there powers on other Magicians until they complete control of the others mind, if they use there powers before said mind control they will both usually die as the other magician uses incredible amounts of power as he is scared for his life.
“youve given me no reason why they would stop eragon from droping dead” You’ve given me no reason why he would, again, burden of proof is you’re since you made the claim. Seriously, don’t get so worked up when I’m trying to help you out.
-
Ok, so Soth is dragonlance then, ok, I havn’t read anything since Summer flame so forgive me if I don’t get everything right:
So Dragonlance magic source is the Gods and is utilized using magic words. It consists of three orders, black, white, and red which consist of good, evil and neutral kind of allignment.
-
Since dragonlance ustilizes it’s own magic language, Eragon’s use of the name of names would be ineffective againt the magic itself, he would not be able to rewrite it since it comes from a distinct god defining it. That said, it would not allow said magic to bypass his wards, not if the spells is simply ‘die’. Eragon’s wards work by defining sets of circumstance and countering them, if Soth says “Die” and that is the spell, just die for no reason, it would not work as it is simple and he would have accounted for someone trying to just kill him in such a manner(several chapters in the books emphasize the fact that it takes understanding and imagination to figure out ways around wards) . To bypass Eragon’s wards, Stoh spell would have to define a certain manner in which Eregon should die that Eregon has not though to ward himself against, as he would with any spell aimed to injure him. Example: “Saying die does not work, but if the spell is to remove oxygen in the air rather then strait up ‘die’ it may work, again as long as that posability has not been thought of and warded against.
“Someone doing a mind attack can see what the other person is thinking at all times. The only way to defend from a mind attack is to focus your entire being on one object, be it a sword, a scale on the back of your dragon, or just a random hymn that’s echoing though your mind during a battle.”
-
Ok, so it literally is the same as versions D&D mind control spells. Even complete with its own “Will” save to negate it.
With the exception of “mind control can happen at any time” . Now is this a spontaneous effect of the spell or will of the caster, or timer set (aka like an alarm clock) ?
(Not that it really matters, as this is specifically listed as abilities undead are completely immune to)
It’s not a spell it’s simply the owners mind reaching out and touching others.
-
Also, couldn’t Eragon simply drain the power from Soth and put into his Gems?
-
Or does he have some defense from this?
“Also, couldn’t Eragon simply drain the power from Soth and put into his Gems?”
-
Depends on how its done, Soth is list as low-level arch-mage within his universe, so its not like the concept is foreign to him, nor the ability, spells, or sheer force of will to resist it.
“Also, couldn’t Eragon simply drain the power from Soth and put into his Gems?”
iirc this dosnt work on undead
soth also dosnt have life force he is full of negative energy
