X-Files Vs Fringe

X-Files Vs Fringe

Suggested by Shaun182

Here’s an interesting match. Both the X-Files and Fringe have appeared on FactPile before, and they both faced off against the tv series, LOST.

But for this particular battle, we are looking at the following:

Which is the better show?
Which universe would defeat the other?

And, here’s a bonus pic I found of Gillian Anderson (opens new window)

X-Files had an episode that hinted Ponce de Leon found the fountain of youth in Florida and evolved into this crazy killing machine since he had centuries to evolve. The red glowing eyes the creature had creeped me out and I was always weary of going outside at night seeing as I live in Florida. That being said I was never impressed with X-Files. I don’t know if that was because of my youth at the time or whatever, but I could never really get involved in the story. I liked it, but it was never a show that kept me coming back on a regular basis.
    .
I enjoy the hell out of Fringe though. One of my favorite aspects recently has been the two realities. It’s really cool to watch the subtle differences in the characters because of what they experienced in life, and how the different teams go about tracking the weirdness that happens. Plus the weirdness is always fun to ponder on top of trying to figure out what is going on in the overall story arc with those damn watchers. So Fringe wins for me as the better show.
    .
As for a universe battle? Fringe seems to me to have the more destructive capabilities (although I don’t really know that much about the X-Files), but from what I remember Fringe has the capability for more catastrophic events.

I watched the X-files when it first came out. Up until the first Movie, then kinda stopped.
    -
    Never seen the Fringe.
    -
As Duchovny is still hot, I’m going to side with the X-Files!
Both as being the better show. Also the Smoking Man and Alex Krycek? I’m sure that’s the Fringe beaten up too :P

I love Fringe, so I’m gonna be biased and say that it wins on both circumstances.

  6. Dr. Doctor February 14, 2012 at 9:26 am -      #6

This is just my layman opinion, but…
    =
Isn’t Fringe about the paranormal? I don’t know about X-Files, but Fringe has a separate reality or something, right?

Lame match is.. reeeally lame. Ah well, at least Guts vs Bloodthirster is still going.

Never really got into the X-Files, but IIRC, the guys in Fringe could cause universes to be destroyed, and they have those watcher dudes so I’m going with them.

I try to catch episodes of the X-Files here, but I can’t seem to get a definite schedule.
    -
Know any good websites where I can watch, apart from Hulu?

“Know any good websites where I can watch, apart from Hulu?”
    -
free tv project.com, it’s got links to tv shows and movies(pretty sure x-files is there).

    “Why say anything at all?”
    -
Because his existence is so sad and meaningless that in order to validate his use of our planets finite resources he has made it his purpose in life to be the first poster in every topic he can.
    -
    I SAY APPLAUD THIS MAN!!!!!
    -
X-Files has some nasty viruses to offer, how is Fringe with dealing with that sort of thing?

I’m sure he doesn’t have anything more important to do in his life, he can do it!

Hate X-Files and have never herd of fringe so um.
    _
    (Shakingly) Go team Fringe???

  16. SgCombine February 14, 2012 at 3:30 pm -      #16

    @jhud
Fringe is a pretty good show, unlike X-Files which was often boring and slow, theres more action in Fringe, and the characters are more interesting, though the odd thing is, with all the weird tech they play around with I don’t ever remember them even mentioning aliens existing in Fringe…

The brilliance of this post astounds me.
    -
Anyways, on to the match, I gotta give it to the X-Files, I’m not sure which is better since i haven’t seen X-Files in forever. But in a fight, X-Files has aliens.

I really like the X-Files. I liked the slow paces and the non story line, monster of the week episodes were actually quite good. Never watched much of Fringe to be honest but what I saw didn’t impress me (in terms of enjoyment not anything power level wise).
    -
One world (with some interesting tech options granted) and all the bits encompassed by that versus a whole raft of Aliens, their spaceships, regular military and black ops, freaks, supernatural powers, God or at least high ranking angels were in a few episodes, so was the Devil infact, the Black Oil, psychics, near indestructible alien/human hybrid super-soldiers (all that was left of one was slush and it’s metal spine and it was fine in 20 minutes), shape shifting alien bounty hunters, Giant Man Eating fungus the size of a forest, the flukeworm/man…. (I’m reaching here!) …. that fungus that lived in the volcano, those bugs that flew around drying things up, aliens who have a habit of abducting people and giving them cancer, the Faceless Rebels who like to set everything on fire, the evil doll that caused every to scratch out their eyes, the shapeshifting bloke you used to have a tail and shagged everything he could, can’t remember his name but it was the same actor who played Benjamin Linus in lost, he had very impressive telekinesis and telepathic powers (granted too much use will kill him but it’s a universe battle so who cares).
    -
Or maybe David Duchovny could send a long voicemail to the Fringe people and they would commit suicide or fall into coma’s
    -
I’m not proclaiming victory but just listing a few things that I think can help the X-Files.
    -
To be honest the Black Oil alone could really mess things up for Fringe, lots of deadly radiation bursts from within. Not conducive to living.

  19. SgCombine February 14, 2012 at 4:23 pm -      #19

Did I mention Fringe has Time Traveling and Universe destroying devices :D ? Not to mention they travel to parallel universes.
    -
Question: Are omniscients or other godlike beings allowed on either side?

Great….we’re running out of new content, in here! :gonk:

  21. Zazax February 14, 2012 at 5:59 pm -      #21

“But in a fight, X-Files has aliens.”
Fringe has at least one alternate universe and the ability to destroy one of those universes. Or if they want they can just start causing all sorts of crazy, physics-breaking disasters that slowly increase in frequency until the universe unravels (for example, a recent episode featured a town that was caught in a bubble between the two universes, and everything around the epicenter of the event was utterly annihilated and just sort of ceased to exist).
They’ve also got the Observers, who experience the past, present, and future all at once, and therefore would be able to tip Fringe off to anything crazy X-Files is planning by telling them what’s going to happen before it happens (or maybe even before X-Files thinks of it).
There’s probably more (like the various kinds of Shapeshifters, although no idea how that’ll be useful), but I can’t think of any at the moment.
    -
I have never actually seen the X-Files, but do they have anything that would allow them to combat an alternate universe?

  22. Murder February 14, 2012 at 6:20 pm -      #22

Fringe wins the battle- They deal with world-ender type scenarios.

The X-Files wins for entertainment- Fringe was fun for the first two seasons, but it’s clear that the writers have run out of ideas. The X-files gave us a decade of great entertainment with some stories that havent been seen on either TTZ, TOL, ST, TFTC or any other fantasy/mystery/scifi/thriller show.

I still prefer The Outter Limits, though.

  23. Soulerous February 14, 2012 at 10:07 pm -      #23

I never watched X-Files, but that’s not for lack of trying. I was never allowed to watch it. The few times I did see it, it freaked the heck out of me. And that iconic creepy music… well, I have that on my iPod.
    =
Fringe I have never even heard of until now. I would choose X-Files as the better show, just because it is so iconic and long-regarded as one of the best scary paranormal activity show.
    =
I still don’t know nearly enough to say which would win in a universe battle, but considering what has been said above me, it seems like that triumph belongs to Fringe.

  24. Soulerous February 14, 2012 at 10:08 pm -      #24

    Also, plurals FTW.

  25. Dr.Twinky February 15, 2012 at 9:01 am -      #25

Fringe side created a weird dust thingy, that once put underneath a heat source, travels the air and kills everyone according to their genetics….
    -
it was the one where Walters Nazi dad helped create it, and one of his proteges ( i presume) experimented with it on Jewish people, at a wedding. Only the Jews died, whereas the Americans lived. Later he also used it to kill everyone with brown eyes.
    -
It could probably be used in large concentrations to kill of the X-Files side.
