This is a battle that I knew had been coming for quite some time and couldn’t hold off anymore as I got soo many requests for this fight. Here we have Rand al’Thor from the Wheel of Time series up against Richard Rahl of the Sword of Truth/Legend of the Seeker universe.
For the battle we are using the book version of Rahl.
Rand has a power forged sword (unbreakable) and no power enhancing items. Richard has the Sword of Truth.
The battle takes place in the Aiel Waste.
Every reader of this site knows who I’m gonna take, what say you?

There’s only really two things the whiteness could be, his ta’veren(ness?), or the Creator itself doing the one thing we know it doesn’t(that being interfering).

Like I’ve said before, the whole “one in a million thing just happened” aspect ta’veren(ness?) changed for Rand after he put the switch labeled “Messiah powers” into the “on” position at the end of “The Gathering Storm”.

I would post all the examples of how Rand’s ta’veren(ness?) is different in ToM, but that’s almost all of his scenes in ToM, and I’m not that fast of a tipper; I’m still flinching at just the idea of have to type up most of ““Apples First”(which is why I haven’t done so yet). It took me something like two hours to type up “Veins of Gold”, and I just haven’t found the time to do that again.

You know, Rand losing to three people was like half-way through the series. Before he ever gained the hundreds of years of experience from Lews Therin. He’s gotten tremendously better since then.

When Richard lost to Kahlan, it showed he wasn’t perfect, and that it is possible for him to lose against a less-experienced opponent. Just like real-life fights. That’s why Rand wins at least one sword fight. Rand also (dare I say) roflstomps Richard with multiple insta-kill spells (including balefire) before Richard can cast his spell. Lightning reaction times are a bitch.

I ask this because it would be a sure-fire way to prevent any attack of Richard’s from connecting. His sub-magic lightning would hit the back of the gateway… and then I don’t know. That’s why I ask for aid.

There’s the one scene where Elayne and Aviendha are Travelling away from Ebou Dar, and the gateway is left open. The back was described as like a “heat-haze” and that moving through the back was impossible as it caused extreme pain.

I would have would be in favor of richard, yes rand does have better control of his powers but richards are powers of “need” so if he were fighting a serous fight that would be of need if pushed into a corner, and when it comes to fighting rand is at disadvantage missing his one hand in sword fight yes he is a master and all but against someone like richard that is huge. yes rand has balefire however he has given up ever using that. though in the end I would say that all of the facts are null since neither would really fight each other they would have no reason to fight if forced to they would find a way to get out of it or force their way out of who is making them fight, or even if they did choose to fight neither would be full hearted into it and would not pull out their win moves, so my voted niether that this is a void battle, that who ever had them fight or tried to fight will end up very dead very quickly.

richared also has has lightning like reflexs maybe not with magic but with a sword and movement plus the sword of truth can cut through magic when it is a white blade which he can do in an instant.

Mike, I believe you’re missing the basic point he’s trying to make This is a lose-lose situation. It’s on the same level as the whole “crazy people don’t think they’re crazy” thing; if you say you’re crazy, people believe you and put you in an asylum. If you say you’re not crazy, but others beleve you are, they think you’re crazy (and since you can’t recognize your craziness you obviously must be crazy!) and lock you up in an asylum.
It’s the same deal here. If you give up, then he’s ‘proven’ that you’re a toxic fan (but its preferable to digging yourself deeper, if your ego can take it). If you argue with him about it, then you’re displaying to the world that he’s right (since you’re arguing with him).

cloud needs to think to speed blitz, when he thinks that, richard thinks cloud is dead. richard wins. also, richard’s perception of time to see the attack coming if it gets to that point is millions of times faster than normal human perception. i could quote you multiple instances where this happens and where it is said to be a byproduct of just their gift(having magic). one instance has him catch a crossbow bolt less than 3 inches from someone’s face and state that a fraction of a second more it would have killed her, but that fraction of a second was an hour to him. there’s also a less powerful person in the series that watches lightning lash around slowly, so it’s very fast perception.

This thread was done a very long time ago. Nearly everyone agrees that Rand wins, and this has been proven with numerous quotes and facts. It’s 11-1 or something like that in Rand’s favor, and we’ve been waiting for a Factpile Award for months.
