An A.I. with a faulty morality core whose only means of defense is to lock the doors and pretend he’s not home; versus the NORAD master computer that dictates the coordinates and launch sequence of every ICBM in the continental US.
Do I need to say anymore?

W.O.P.R……definitely.
I guess I’m probably one of the few here who played the ps1 game Wargames defcon1, WOPR is a hell of an opponent. If we are taking about the one that has an army of mech units at it’s disposal than it has already one, but so does the one from the movie.

It really is no contest. Hal will slowly talk itself into oblivion while its every component is incinerated by a nuclear barrage.
Is the W.O.P.R. on the value menu yet?

HAL is much smarter and much more devious. Call back when he’s up against something that WASN’T fooled by Ferris Bueller…

Too bad he’s limited to his mainframe, denied control over even some of the basic ship functions.
But closing doors and killing crew members in their sleep, wow. What a power.

Here is a more interesting scenario: which one would you rather be trapped in a room with?

You know both of these movies came out before the net was HUGE. WOPR did get hacked by dial up. If HAL had any web connection I would venture that he could hack and outprocess WOPR hands down. However without anything to go by net wise on HAL it is just speculation.
War is always on! Win for the Grey box!
